Hubba’s House

About

I am Hubba, but my real name is Matthew J Trask.  I was born on December 12th, 1978; surprisingly there are no reports of celestial phenomena on that day.

When I was, we think, 9 months old, I had a stroke, which eventual rendered my right eye sightless.  You don’t want to sneak up on me on my right side or I’m liable to kick you.  Since we didn’t know that I had had a stroke until I was 26, Dad expected me to hold up my end on the ranch same as the other kids.  But like most kids, I shirked my fair share of duty.  Unlike some kids, I spent most of my stolen free time reading, and developed a friendship with the English language.

In 2004 I started writing the Elm Springs News, a community social column for the local paper.  Eventually I developed a following.  I have also written a few other things, songs, a magazine article or two, and some children’s books which we should have out soon.

So thanks for visitin’ as I like to say.  And if you would like to see the world like I do, poke one of your eyes out.

With Talent On Loan From God/ The Magic Of WD 40

The Junk Drawer

I thought I’d do a double header today, partly because it’s been a day or two, and partly because two things really made me laugh today.

When I was a kid, I got to listening to Rush Limbaugh because Dad listened to Rush Limbaugh.  We were very politically active and aware, and Rush Limbaugh seemed to [...]

Lenten Privations

The Junk Drawer

I decided to give up chewing tobacco for Lent.
I have been chewing more or less constantly since I was 9, or 22 years ago.  Tobacco has become an integral part of my life.  I gave up chewing the “good stuff” years ago and switched to economy brands to save money.
I have never been that concerned [...]

A Beautiful Day, Funeral Notwithstanding

Today I went to the funeral of Jane Scofield, who spent the better part of her life, timewise, as a Meade County special education teacher.  In that capacity, she had a large influence on my life as one of my speech therapists.  I had no idea until today that the small smiling woman who drove [...]

Oh Fishsticks!

Wednesday began the season of Lent, as has been noted before, when among other things Catholics are to abstain from all meat except fish on Fridays.  Back in the old days, Catholics were supposed to abstain from meat 52 Fridays a year, but somewhere in there, the rules were relaxed a little.
Which brings a Catholic [...]

With Love to My Darlin’

Bonnie Jean has been bugging me about sharing my reflections on her and relationships here on Hubba’s House.  And somehow she thought Valentine’s Day would be the perfect opportunity to do so.
Volumes have been written about women and relationships, the main point being that men don’t understand women, and further women don’t understand women either.  I [...]
