The ESN; Telephones and Football
The weather here in Elm Springs alternated maddeningly between cold and hot, and Sunday was miserably windy. Most of the kind citizens went to Wall on Saturday to attend either the Golden West Annual meeting or the Wall/Phillip football game or both, while one or two attended the Lutheran Ladies Bazaar. The Wall/Philip game, at two in the afternoon on an unseasonably hot day, turned into a route as the Eagles lost their wings. Clyde Arneson was a Friday morning coffee guest at the Morris Linn residence. Melissa Burke visited the Lawrence Burke residence Monday and stayed Monday night. Peggy Gravatt visited Ray Jondro in Rapid City on Tuesday. On Thursday, Peggy joined Sandy Fields, Peggy Wetz and Judy Matt at the Women in Ag Conference in Spearfish, where they managed to have fun as well. Peggy returned on Friday. After activities in Wall on Saturday, Larry and Peggy met Clyde Arneson at “Amanda’s Hideaway” in Wasta for supper. Jerry and Chase Gravatt visited the Larry Gravatt residence Sunday afternoon. The Sam Johnstons attended a junior high football game in Wall against Kadoka Monday afternoon, and a junior high volleyball game, also in Wall against Kadoka, on Thursday afternoon. On Tuesday, all of the Johnston kids visited the orthodontist in Rapid City. And the Sam Johnston’s celebrated Calder’s seventeenth birthday at home Sunday evening. The Andy Linns attended the junior high games in Wall as well. John and Jean Linn attended the volleyball game in Wall with Kassandra on Thursday, and the Sturgis 50+ year high school reunion in Sturgis on Saturday. Shirrise and Kassandra Linn went to Rapid City on Monday, and Wall on Wednesday for Kassandra’s piano lesson. Clyde Arneson visited the Morris Linn residence Wednesday evening and Saturday morning. On Sunday, Kassandra visited the “Big House” while Shirrise attended a Stampin’ Up party in Enning and Morris visited the “Upland Trask” residence. Cary and Pam Tines joined others on a motorcycle ride to Rosebud on Saturday. The Al Trasks visited the “Upland Trask” residence Sunday afternoon. Matt Trask went to Gillette WY with John, Kathy, Bob and Patty Joe Timmons on Thursday for birthday supper at the Jimmy Timmons residence, also joined by Riley Timmons and with a stop at Devil’s Tower. And the “Upland Trasks” had unforgettable week. Pat, accompanied by RoseMary, had knee surgery in Rapid City on Monday. Tuesday, Pat RoseMary and Matt attended the ‘Bootjack Ranch’ auction in Rapid City. After the auction, they celebrated Nick’s birthday in Rapid City with another handful of “Upland Trasks,” Mike Morrison, Ray Olsen, and Bryce and Betty Nelson. Col. Dennis Wier of Offutt AFB, NE visited the “Upland Trask” residence Wednesday, and Marian, Wade, Melissa, Easton and Eli Eberhard, all of Sioux Falls, visited Thursday, staying all night. Becky and Austin Trask left Thursday to visit John Paul in Winona MN, while Joe Trask and Muriel Kjerstad arrived at the “Upland Trask” residence Friday night for the weekend. On Saturday, Bonnie and Patty Joe Timmons visited the “Upland Trask” residence and Nick Trask and Muriel Kjerstad went to Rapid City on a date, spending the night at the Steph Trask residence. Sunday visitors at the “Upland Trask” residence included Bonnie and Patty Joe Timmons and Ray Olsen. Ashley Wilsey of Wisconsin arrived at the Jim Wilsey residence to spend the weekend, while Ben Wilsey, now of Spearfish, arrived Saturday evening and left Sunday morning. Phillip and Mary Kay Wilson left last Sunday for the South Dakota Association of Conservation Districts Convention in Spearfish which ran through Tuesday. Mary Kay left Thursday for Minneapolis MN to babysit Mary and Sam Wolberg while Josh and Amy went on a camping trip in the rain. The Elm Springs Fire Department is fielding donkey basketball team for the upcoming Donkey Basketball tournament to be held at the Central Meade County Community Center on Wednesday the 21st of October starting at seven pm. The rural EMT’s will play the CMCCC board, and then the Enning Fire Department will square off against the Elm Springs Fire Department. The Elm Springs team, captained by Morris Linn and unofficially dubbed the “Mighty Mo’s” so far includes Matt, Nick and Al Trask. The event is sponsored by the Rural Meade County Ambulance service, and tickets can be purchased through one of their representatives, the Enning Store, Cammack Ranch Supply, or Shirrise Linn. The kind citizens will see you there!
