The ESN; Beginning of Summer

Elm Springs News

Most of the kind citizens were apparently out of doors enjoying a beautiful country sunset and could not answer their telephones.

In their defense, the sunsets have become something to see. Aided by the 8.41 inches of moisture we received during the month of May, the sun now sets on an ocean of green, dotted with brimful dams. No one should be sitting by their telephone at a time like this.

The Elm Springs Memorial Day Program Monday was a well-attended success. With Ms. Julie Trask as emcee, the program rolled along nicely, featuring Col. Dennis Wier as keynote speaker, and several memorable performances, among them two from the talented Ms. Erin Hoyle of Wicksville.

Several of the youngsters of Elm Springs attended Vacation Bible School at Prairie Bible Church from Tuesday through Friday, culminating in a program Friday night.

Marvin Anders visited Al and Bridget’s Castle Sunday afternoon to help Al and Matt build a deck. He was joined by Carolyn and Baxter at the Castle for supper. Strangely, Matt Trask left before supper.

Baxter and Dunbar Anders competed in the practice rodeo in Martin on Saturday, winning second in the team roping.

Larry and Peggy Gravatt attended Madi Fuegen’s 5th grade graduation from Meadowbrook Elementary in Rapid City Wednesday, afterwards visiting Jack Gravatt. Morris, Andy and Ben Linn helped Larry Friday afternoon, and the extended Gravatt family visited Saturday to help brand.

The Andy Linns went fishing Sunday afternoon on the place, before going home for haircuts. Grandma Jean Linn visited Andy’s Barbershop Sunday evening.

Grandma Arlene Talley and Dayton Shannon of Rapid City visited the Morris Linn residence Monday, while Jack Simons and Matt Trask were Monday evening supper guests. Ashlyn and Jared Simons of Union Center visited the Morris Linn residence Thursday afternoon before Lynn came to pick them up. The Morris Linns visited the Jack Simons residence near Enning Sunday, where they joined the entire Simons clan, Grandma Arlene and Dayton, Amber Brookman of Rapid City and her boyfriend Jesse for a little bit of branding and a lot of fun.

Andrew Smith of Pierre, David Smith of Waco, TX and Gary Smith of WY all arrived at the Jim Smith residence Friday night. Melanie Smith returned from Girls State in Vermillion Saturday night. While most of the Smith boys left Sunday morning, the remainder of the Jim Smiths attended the Stevens High School graduation in Rapid City Sunday to watch Arissa Olien graduate.

Pam Tines and Bunny Bail went to Wall Friday afternoon. Sunday afternoon, John, Amanda and Lainee Mae, Ty Tines and his girlfriend Danielle, and JW, Dara and Sean Troxel all visited the Cary Tines residence for supper.

The Al Trasks visited the “Upland Trask” residence Wednesday night and Friday morning, and went to Wall Sunday morning.

The “Upland Trasks” entertained the Wier family of Offutt, AFB all week. There were several trips to town, including an aggregate of Trasks and Wiers attending a town hall debate in Belle Fourche in which District 29 senate candidate Nick Trask participated on Wednesday, RoseMary Trask and Claudia Wier’s girls night out to Rapid City on Thursday, and Nick Trask’s campaign rally at the Loud American Roadhouse in Sturgis on Friday night. The Wiers left and Morris and Ben Linn visited Saturday afternoon. Nick, Steph and Julie Trask joined Dr. Wenzel Kovarik and his mules of Hereford on the campaign trail in Piedmont on Sunday.

Tom and Bruce Wilsey of the Sioux Falls area arrived at the Jim Wilsey residence Friday night for Saturday’s branding. They left Sunday after a round of golf in Wall with Jim and Caroline.

Philip, Mary Kay and Pam Wilson spent Wednesday night at the Darrell and Norma Harer residence near Hoven. On Thursday they continued to Minneapolis, MN where Pam caught a plane for her month-long Spanish language trip to Argentina. After visiting the Josh Wolbergs and Beth Wilson, Philip and Mary Kay returned to Elm Springs Sunday afternoon.

The kind citizens think you should be outside enjoying the sunset.
