The ESN; A Shocking & Senseless Criminal Act
With Thanksgiving on Thursday, the “Holiday Season” is now upon us. Many of the kind citizens have cut down a Christmas Tree, and one or two have even put them up.
We’ll get to all that, but first a shocking and senseless criminal act rocked Elm Springs on Saturday. Clyde Arneson, accompanied by Allen and Marcus Mann, went Christmas Tree hunting Saturday morning, cutting down a tree for the Reverend Harold Delbridge. After the Mann’s had left, Clyde put the tree in a secure spot in his yard and took a nap. Connie Arneson arrived about noon, and Clyde and Connie went to cut another tree, and when they got back, they discovered that someone had taken the Reverend’s tree. We are willing to believe this may have been a silly prank instead of a shocking and senseless criminal act, but we demand that the Reverend’s tree be returned immediately. If our demands are not met, we will resort to begging.
The Rebels basktetball team had their first game Monday night in Union Center. We did not learn who they played or how they did.
Marvin and Carolyn Anders and Rod and Kelly Anders went over the river and through the woods to the Casey Trask residence to celebrate Thanksgiving, while Baxter and Dunny spent the day at the Vernie Schnose residence near Hot Springs.
Clyde Arneson joined his family and Ray, Millie and Bruce Schmidt, all of Belle Fourche, at the New Underwood Arneson residence Thanksgiving Day. On Saturday, Clyde hosted Allen and Marcus Mann Saturday morning and presumably spent Saturday afternoon taping off the scene of the shocking and senseless Christmas Tree Theft.
Lonnie Arneson and Teri Ramsdell hosted the Billy Eastmans of Belle Fourche, the JJ Elsheres of Cottonwood, and the Ryan Elsheres on Thanksgiving day. On Saturday, they attended the Rollis Buer wedding reception in Belle Fourche.
Lawrence and Doris Burke went to Rapid City to take Melissa out to lunch on Thanksgiving Day.
The Ryan Elsheres attended the Buer wedding reception Saturday night in Belle Fourche.
Larry and Peggy Gravatt had Thanksgiving dinner at the Jerry Gravatt residence in Rapid City, picking up Jack Gravatt and Ray Jondro along the way. On Friday, Larry and Peggy went to Rapid City to witness the baptism of granddaughter Sarah Erickson.
The Sam Johnstons spent Thanksgiving Day at the “Big Green Trask House” in Wall. The Scott Jensens of Gillette WY visited the Johnson residence Friday.
Jim and Jean Ross of Pueblo CO arrived at the Andy Linn residence Monday to spend the week. Helen Arends of Rapid City arrived Wednesday, and her daughter Casey joined them on Thanksgiving Day. The Ross’ left Saturday.
Jean Linn attended Catherine Tifft’s 80th birthday party in Wicksville on Saturday.
Clyde Arneson was a supper guest at the Morris Linn residence on Tuesday. Amber Brookman of Rapid City arrived Thanksgiving afternoon and stayed overnight. The Linns celebrated Thanksgiving on Saturday at the Scott and Lynn Simons residence near Union Center, in the company of the Simons clan.
Bunny Bail and the girls spent Thanksgiving Day at the Jim and Caroline Wilsey residence. On Friday, they visited the Marvin Anders residence, and stopped to visit Melvin and Dorothy Anderson Friday evening. Saturday, they went to Buffalo to witness Deck and Elizabeth Ginsbaugh renew their wedding vows and baptize their son Hunter. They stayed overnight at the Rex Burghduff residence and returned Sunday.
Matt Trask accompanied Bonnie and Patty Timmons to the Riley Timmons residence near Gillette WY to celebrate Thanksgiving. On the way home Friday, they stopped to visit at the Paul Bruch residence near Bear Butte.
John Paul Trask returned to the “Upland Trask” residence from Winona MN Tuesday, and Joe returned Wednesday. On Thanksgiving Day, the “Upland Trasks,” plus Ray Olsen and minus Matt, went to Rapid City to participate in the Turkey Trot 5K run. From a couch in Gillette, Matt counted his blessings, all 5 kilometers. The “Upland Trasks” went on to help the Knights of Columbus put on their banquet at the St. Elizabeth Seton school, and then returned home for Thanksgiving supper. Saturday visitors at the “Upland Trask” residence were Jesse Lewis of Rapid City and friend John and Steph Trask, and Sunday visitors were Natasha and Monique Bentz of Billings MT. Steph, Julie and Joe departed the “Upland Trask” residence Sunday afternoon.
The Kenny Wilsons hosted the Justin Tschetters of Rapid City, the Kevin Howlands of Rapid City, and Bruce and Linda Kroetch of Philip on Thanksgiving Day.
The Catholics of Elm Springs were to participate in the rescheduled Holy Souls Prayer Walk this Sunday at St. Margaret’s in Lakeside. Since it was a rather blustery, unpleasant day, Fr. Leo Hausmann suggested that they perform the prayer without the walk. Matt Trask was decidedly Baptist in his affirmation. After the Holy Souls Prayer, the participants enjoyed dinner at the John and Darlene Wulf residence.
Young Mattee Ann Pauley has adorable Rat Terrier/Corgi cross pups for sale right now, and no one should need reminding that a pet would make a nice gift for that special someone, or as Bunny put it, “a great stocking stuffer.” She has eight left, five females and three males. Contact young Mattee Ann at 798-2230.
And the kind citizens hope poor Reverend Harold will get to celebrate Christmas this year.

I’m sure the Reverend will celebrate.
Shoot,it might have been him who picked up the tree. Did you call him to confirm or deny?
