The Elm Springs News; Rolling Along
It tried to snow in western South Dakota this past week, with very little success. There was maybe an inch on the ground in Elm Springs Friday morning.
The Elm Springs lower grades recited their Civic Oration speeches Friday at the Elm Springs, school, mostly for the benefit of their parents. This year’s topic was “Great American Landmarks.”
The Wall and Philip high schools each held their prom in their respective town Saturday night. From Elm Springs, Joseph and Austin Trask, Baxter and Dunbar Anders, Kelli Wilson, Calder Johnston and Melanie Smith attended the Wall High School prom, and Mark and Mick Trask attended the Philip High School prom. Several of the kind citizens went to watch the various Grand Marches, and Cary Johnston remarked once again that “the Elm Springs bunch cleans up real nice.”
Some of the kind citizens attended the Republican Party Lincoln Day dinner in Sturgis Saturday night, where kind citizen Nick Trask, as Republican district 29 senate candidate, gave a speech.
Clyde Arneson went to New Underwood Wednesday, where he donated blood before going into Rapid City with Connie on business. Saturday he and Connie went to Rapid City again.
Clyde Arneson and Rick and Shania Johnston were supper guests at the Lonnie Arneson residence Friday night. Ryan Elshere and kids had dinner at the Lonnie Arneson residence Saturday.
Clyde Arneson also visited the Lawrence Burke residence both Monday and Friday. On Thursday, Lawrence and Doris went to Rapid City for appointments.
Jason Fields arrived at the Lynn Fields residence Friday to take watch over the cows while Lynn and Sandy went to Sturgis to run errands. He stayed Friday night and helped Saturday too.
Peggy Gravatt spent the week substitute teaching at the Elm Springs School while Ms. Case went to Iowa to meet her new granddaughter. On Friday, Peggy’s uncle and cousin, Scott and Carrie Jandro, surprised her with a visit on their way home to Prior Lake, MN. They had been touring the Black Hills. Jerry and Alyn Gravatt of Rapid City visited the Larry Gravatt residence Saturday morning.
Cary and Savana Johston accompanied Melody and Tate Eisenbraun of Wall to the Eagle’s track meet at Douglas High School in Box Elder.
Nick Trask was a coffee visitor at the Morris Linn residence Tuesday moning. Cheryl Simons of Enning spent Friday night, staying to watch Kassandra on Saturday while Shirrise went to Rapid City, where she ran errands before having supper with Grandma Arlene Talley and Dayton Shannon, Deb and Amber Brookman, and Sandy Van Vleck. Shirrise spent the night with Grandma Arlene.
Matt Trask and Tracey Kluck visited the Cary Tines residence Friday night. Saturday night, Cary and Pam were joined at the Two Bit Saloon in Quinn by John Tines, Amanda Humphrey and Lainee Mae, and Coby Tines and Cassidy Rieb for supper.
The Al Trasks had supper in Rapid City Saturday night with the Paul Yantes Jrs.
Pat and RoseMary Trask went to Sioux Falls Wednesday to visit Bobbi Jean Haneke. Pat , RoseMary and Julie attended the Lincoln Day dinner in Sturgis Saturday night, which Steph Trask also attended. Sunday visitors at the “Upland Trask” residence were Fr. Godfrey Mwanga now of Spearfish and the lovely and charming Terry Harris of Quinn.
Matt Trask accompanied Brian Scott and Darryl Berry to the Ridge for a meeting of the Ft. Pierre to Deadwood Trailride committee Saturday, spending Saturday night at the Brian Scott residence.
Jim and Caroline Wilsey went to Sioux Falls on business Wednesday, returning Wednesday. As Jim put it, “it was short business and a long trip.”
And Kenny and Janet Wilson visited the Kevin Howland residence in Rapid City Sunday afternoon.
