The Elm Springs News
September 30, 2007
The leaves on the trees in Elm Springs have begun to change into their autumn colors, as the days grow shorter and the nights grow colder
Some of the kind citizens attended the Wall Eagles dispiriting loss to the Harding Co. Ranchers in Wall Friday night. Kellie Linn, Cary Johnston and Bunny Pauley attended the Rural volleyball tournament in New Underwood on Saturday, while Andy and Jacob Linn attended the junior high Football Jamboree in Wall before attending the last game of the Rural volleyball tournament. And the “Elk Creek Trasks” attended Philip’s homecoming football game against White River Friday night, and the Philip volleyball game Saturday, both in Philip.
‘Tis the season of many things, including antelope hunters. We know that Dave Hicks and Jared Hicks of Yankton and Gene and Rory Pluth of Rapid City were antelope hunters at the Linn ranch over the weekend, and John Madsen and company of Rapid City visited the “Upland Trask” ranch for the same purpose Saturday.
We begin this week’s ESN with the Lawrence Burkes, who hosted fisherwomen Melissa Burke, Alena Willar and Stacey Ritter, all of Rapid City, on Saturday. Lawrence visited the Russell Burmeister residence in Wasta on Sunday.
Marcia Arneson of Rapid City joined Chrissy Elshere and kids on a trip to Sioux Falls Saturday to help Grace Arneson celebrate her birthday. While they were gone, Ryan visited the Jim and Lana Elshere residence near Milesville. The Elsheres returned home Sunday, and Nick Trask visited them Sunday evening.
Maria Trask visited the Sam Johnston residence for an hour or so after school Wednesday afternoon, until Matt and Celine came to pick her up. Kim Kling of Belle Fourche visited the Sam Johnston residence Sunday morning.
Ray and Kermit Olsen visited the “Big House” Tuesday afternoon. John and Jean Linn attended a Sturgis High school reunion Saturday night in Sturgis.
Shirrise Linn was a coffee visitor at the Cary Tines residence Monday morning. Roger Shull of Creighton and Jack Simons of Enning were overnight guests at the Morris Linn residence Monday night. Kassandra Linn visited the Sam Johnston residence after school Tuesday afternoon. Bunny Pauley was a coffee visitor at the Morris Linn residence Wednesday morning, Shirrise and Kassandra went to Wall Wednesday afternoon, and Matt Trask visited Wednesday evening. In addition to hosting the antelope hunters over the weekend, Shirrise and Kassandra visited the Travis and Melissa Byrne residence near Viewfield and Kassandra visited Grandma Arlene and Dayton Shannon Saturday afternoon, and Clyde Arneson was a supper guest Saturday night. Bunny Pauley and her girls and Andy Linn were coffee visitors at the Morris Linn residence Sunday morning and Matt Trask visited Sunday afternoon.
Ray Olsen hosted brother Kermit of San Jose, CA on Tuesday. Kermit was in South Dakota for a high school reunion in Rapid City and wished to tour his boyhood home, visit the Linns, and very strangely, meet Matt Trask. He got to do all three.
Matt Trask wished to eat supper twice on Tuesday, which he did, first at the Cary Tines residence, and next at Al and Bridget’s Castle.
Bridget and Little Pat Trask left the Castle Wednesday, staying all night at the Carmelite guesthouse in Alexandria before catching a plane in Sioux Falls Thursday to attend the Saturday birthday party of great grandma Victoria Watson. Little Pat, it should be noted, has grown to immense proportions for a child of his age, so that “Little Pat” doesn’t set him quite right. He has gotten so big that some idiot carelessly called him “Humongous Herbert” one day, and the name has attracted a small following. For the sake of clarity, he will be referred to as “Little Pat” in the ESN. Nick Trask visited the Castle Sunday afternoon.
Matt Trask left Thursday for Deadwood to attend the SD Book Festival over the weekend. While there, he was the guest of Blas Skvicalo (still somehow pronounced “SQUEECH-alo”) of rural Lead, who treated him like a visiting dignitary, driving him to and from the Book Festival and feeding him twice a day. Before each meal, Matt protested theatrically before devouring everything. And so Matt spent the weekend in grand style, posing as an academic by day and bothering his host by night. On his way home Sunday, he also visited at the Paul Bruch residence near Bear Butte.
Pat Trask attended the cross country meet in Lead Tuesday to watch Gemma compete for the Wall Eagles. Apparently no one told him that Gemma did not go to the meet. Undaunted, Pat cheered for the Wall Eagles who had gone. RoseMary, Maria and Celine Trask picked up Maria Munoz of Rapid City in Wasta Friday and traveled to St. Mary’s College in Winona, MN, to visit John Paul Trask and young Mr. Munoz, whose first name might be Eric. The “Upland Trasks” were not home Sunday night to report what else they did.
Tom Trask returned to the “Elk Creek Trask” ranch Thursday from Africa, where he had been hunting.
Jim and Caroline Wilsey returned last Sunday from Elk River, MN, where they had visited son Tim and his family. This week they went to Rapid City Wednesday and Friday, both times on business.
Kelli Wilson attended a gymnastics camp in Rapid City on Friday.
Mary Kay Wilson, accompanied by Shirley Kitterman of Wall and Megan Regglin of Rapid City went to Minneapolis, MN over the weekend to visit the Wolbergs and Beth Wilson.
Melvin and Dorothy Anderson had lunch in Rapid City with Audey Anderson, who will soon be leaving for Iraq. Bunny Pauley and the girls visited the Melvin Anderson residence Sunday.
The kind citizens hope you are enjoying the fall colors.
