The Elm Springs News

September 18, 2006

Everyone has more or less settled into the school year routine here in Elm Springs, which usually means a lessening of social activities, if one doesn’t count sporting events.

The wind blew mightily over the weekend, which is all that can be said about the weather.

The outcome of the annual Wall/New Underwood football game is a subject of great interest to the kind citizens, as most of them have ties to both communities. At this years contest, according to young Mattee Ann Pauley, “Wall killed New Underwood,” 40-14.

The Elm Springs Jolly Ranchers 4-H Club met at the Andy Linn residnece Thursday evening.

Several men from Elm Spings participated in the annual Buckaroo Ride over the weekend, which was held this year on the Owen Garnos ranch south of Reliance.

Carolyn Anders returned home Sunday from her trip with two of her sisters to see a fourth sister in Spokane, WA. In addition to Spokane, where they picked fruit, the sisters went shopping in Sand Point, ID, and took a boat ride and watched the homecoming parade in Cour D’Alene.

Baxter and Dunny Anders, performing together at a team roping in Rapid City on Sunday, did very well.

Cary and Pam Tines visited Clyde and Connie Arneson Saturday night to, as Clyde said, “test my pickled eggs and Canadian beer.”

Brad Bookbinder left Wednesday for Wisconsin. Pending the outcome of a telephone interview, he may end up in New York. Marion Case was a Thursday night supper guest at the Larry Gravatt residence to celebrate her birthday. And Chase and Carter Gravatt were Saturday visitors to the Gravatt ranch.

The “Big House” is a bit whiter than it was, as Jean Linn completed her painting project toward the end of the week. John and Jean Linn attended the Brink family reunion in Union Center on Sunday.

Morris, Shirrise and Kassandra Linn went to Rapid City Monday to keep appointments. Shelane Graham was a Wednesday dinner guest at the Morris Linns. Kassandra began piano lessons in Wall on Thursday, under the instruction of Carla Brucklacher. Shirrise attended a stamp party at the Jodi Shaw residence near Union Center Friday, and the Morris Linns hosted Sandy, Ganeva and David Van Vleck on Saturday.

Bud Pauley entertained Clay Tines, Sean Troxel and Matt Trask at his residence Thursday evening. Jim and Caroline Wilsey visited the Bud Pauley residence briefly Sunday night.

Cary and Pam Tines went to Rapid City Sunday to eat lunch and spend the day with Grandma Natalie Termes.

Bridget Trask returned from Iowa Monday morning, having left Al in the care of Chuck Enders for a trip to Pierre. Bridget went to Rapid City on Friday, and Al and Bridget attended a wedding reception in Rapid City Saturday night. Sunday evening, Al and Bridget entertained Nick and Julie Trask at the Castle.

Joe and Austin Trask again took turns staying at the “Big Green Trask House” in Wall during the week. Holly and Cameron Sukup of Nebraska came out for the weekend, and Holly accompanied Nick and Julie to the wedding reception that Al and Bridget attended.

Matt Trask spent the weekend engaged in the responsibilities of being an usher at the Rob Goodman/Andrea Neuman wedding on Saturday in Rapid City. In addition to the regular duties of an usher, Matt had the honor of escorting the bride’s mother, Mrs. Nancy Neuman, to her seat at the beginning of the ceremony. The young groom summed the occasion up nicely at the reception, when he said “here’s hoping that the new Goodman’s are as good as the good Neuman’s,” referring of course to his parents-in-law. Who wouldn’t want such a clever young man married to their daughter?

Mark Trask, along with several other young people, celebrated his confirmation in the Catholic Church Sunday in Philip, with Kenny Wilson as his sponsor.

At the “Brustol AFB” the Wrachfords have had uncomfortable enounters with two skunks in the last week. The second one, under the deck, had to be removed.

Melvin and Dorothy Anderson spent the weekend at the Spirit of the West Festival in Sioux Falls, where they got the chance to meet Roy Rogers’ daughter Genie.

The kind citizens wish you a wonderful week.
