The Elm Springs News
September 16, 2007
The first frost of the season occurred on Thursday night in Elm Springs. This event carries great significance to the agricultural person. The women of Elm Springs accidentally proved a point that the men had been making all along, namely that the WTL Club and the Country Red Hat organization are only different names for the same group. They did this by holding both on the same day, at the same locations, with the same women. First, the Country Red Hat Ladies, Jean, Kellie and Carol Linn, Carolyn Anders, Caroline Wilsey, Norma Pellegrin, Peggy Gravatt and Natalie Tines went to Rapid City where they rode the trolley. Their exit from the trolley was caught on film by a news crew who happened to be in the vicinity, and was shown on the local news. Then this same group of women visited the Lorraine Ven Huizen residence where, simply by taking off the hats, they became the WTL Club.
Carolyn Anders and Jean Linn attended the Kammerer Harvest Fest north of Wall on Saturday. Marvin and Carolyn Anders went to Sturgis Sunday, where they attended Wilbur Bachand’s birthday party.
Lonnie Arneson and Terri Ramsdell hosted fisher people Jack Tisdale and Debbie Nachtigall on Friday, Todd Keffeler for supper Saturday night, and the Ryan Elshere’s, accompanied by cousin Talon, on Sunday.
Peggy Gravatt substitute taught at the Elm Springs School on Tuesday. On Thursday, she went to Wall for parts, and found the time to take Dora Mae Jensen to lunch at the Red Rock Restaurant for her birthday. Saturday, Jerry, Chase and Carter Gravatt, Brad Bookbinder and Jack Gravatt, and Barry Gravatt all visited the Larry and Peggy Gravatt residence.
The Sam Johnstons attended the Wall Eagles football game in Kadoka Friday night. Sunday visitors at the Sam Johnston residence were Tammy, Wyatt and Keoni Bills of New Underwood and Kellie Linn and kids.
Roger Shull returned home from the Morris Linn residence Monday. Kassandra Linn visited the Sam Johnstons Tuesday. Shirrise took Kassandra to her first piano lesson of the school year Wednesday, before visiting the Sanden Simons residence. On Friday, the Morris Linns left for Denver CO to attend a benefit for Kodi (Simons) Morgan. They returned home Sunday night.
The Al Trasks went to Rapid City Sunday afternoon.
Pat Trask went to Platte on business Thursday, returning in time to catch the football game in Kadoka, which Matt and Nick Trask also attended. RoseMary, Maria and Celine Trask participated in the Buddy Walk at Canyon Lake Park in Rapid City Saturday. Nick Trask attended the Trent and Betsy Shearer wedding reception in Wall Saturday night. Sunday visitors at the “Upland Trask” residence were the Paul Yantes’ of Rapid City and Jeff and Jared Nelson and Jim and Jay Steuer (pronounced “STOY-er”) of Manitowoc, WI, on their way to Wyoming.
Matt Trask made a brief appearance at the Shearer wedding reception, before going to the “Big Green Trask House” in Wall, where he harassed Milton, Jaymie and Torrie Trask with his guitar, calling it “practice” for his late night appearance on the stage at the Relay for Life in Wall. At this, he made a great honking spectacle of himself, telling what passed for jokes and mangling several songs with his guitar. At one point, he somehow became the auctioneer for an impromptu bake sale, where he tried to sell an apple pie, a pan of cinnamon rolls and a “date with me” for $5000. The pie and cinnamon rolls brought $13. Matt spent the remainder of Saturday night at the “Big Green Trask House” before going back to Elm Springs, where he accompanied the Ft. Pierre to Deadwood Trailride committee on a tour of the trailride route
The “Elk Creek Trasks” attended a Philip volleyball game in Philip on Thursday night, and a football game in New Underwood on Friday night. Sunday, they escorted the Trailride people across their property.
All of the “W’s” were not home to report what they did this week.
The kind citizens wish you a wonderful week.
