The Elm Springs News

September 10, 2007

On Monday of this week, the temperature pegged at 104 degrees. On Saturday and Sunday nights, it almost froze here in Elm Springs. Perhaps we could say there was something for everybody in last week’s weather.

Now that the school year has started, many of the kind citizens find themselves on football sidelines cheering on their favorite team. The Andy Linns and the Sam Johnstons attended a JV/Junior High football game in Presho on Tuesday, and the Andy Linns attended another Junior High football game on Saturday in White River, while the Sam Johnstons, the “Upland Trasks” and the “Elk Creek Trasks” attended the Prospector Bowl in Deadwood. The “Upland Trasks” and the Johnstons went to watch Wall get handed another loss at the hands of Newell, while the “Elk Creek Trasks” witnessed a defensive slugging match between Philip and Harding County from which Philip emerged victorious, 6-2.

And Kingston Oliver Wulf, infant son of Justin and Kayla Wulf, was baptized Sunday at St. Margarets in Lakeside. After the baptism, several kind citizens, Catholic or otherwise, enjoyed dinner at the John and Darlene Wulf residence.

Clyde and Connie Arneson celebrated Labor Day by going to Belle Fourche to visit Ray and Millie Schmidt. On Wednesday, Clyde and Connie went to Rapid City on business.

Larry and Peggy Gravatt celebrated Labor Day with an aimless trip to the Black Hills, where they wound up visiting the Christmas Village and shopping in Hill City. Carter Gravatt and Teresa Rehborg of New Underwood were Sunday dinner guests at the Larry Gravatt residence.

The Sam Johnstons spent Saturday night at the Kim Kling residence near Belle Fourche.

Matt Trask was a dinner guest at the Andy Linn residence Thursday.

And Nick Trask was a dinner guest at the Morris Linn residence Tuesday. Morris and Shirrise went to Rapid City Wednesday, while Kassandra visited at the “Big House.” Shirrise, Kassandra and Jean Linn went to Rapid City Saturday, where they met Marsha Pluth to attend a garage sale and go out to lunch. Roger Shull was an overnight guest at the Morris Linns Sunday.

Bridget and Little Pat Trask went to Rapid City Friday to keep appointments. The Al Trasks returned to Rapid City Saturday afternoon.

The “Upland Trasks” hosted most of the Col. Dennis Wier family of Omaha NE from Monday evening to Thursday morning. The Wiers proved to be an immense help to the somewhat beleaguered “Upland Trasks.” Wednesday evening dinner guests, besides the Wiers, were the Al Trasks and the Dale Sawvells of Creighton. Several of the “Upland Trasks” went to Rapid City Sunday.

Dear reader, you really should have been warned of this news item at the top of the column. Nick Trask, pay attention, Nick Trask escorted the lovely Ms. Ashley Turdgeon of Wasta to Rapid City Friday night, where they had a nice dinner at an uptown restaurant before catching the tail end of the Stockgrowers Convention. It does seem fitting that an “Upland Trask” took his date to the Stockgrowers Convention, now doesn’t it?

Matt Trask retrieved his computer from Rapid City Wednesday evening. On Friday, Matt left Elm Springs for Nebraska, visiting the Tony O’neill residence near Cody and staying all night in Valentine before driving to North Platte to attend the wedding of Trent Allison to Emily Brown, which it should be noted, Steph and Julie Trask, Tracey Orsburn, and Jill Heidy of Wauneta, NE also attended. Matt returned to Elm Springs by a rather circuitous route Sunday, visiting the Brady and Lane O’Rourke residence near Quinn and driving to Rapid City to buy a new pair of sunglasses because he had broken his while jitterbugging with Julie the night before. It is imperative that Matt look good while doing the nothing that he does so well.

Several of the kind citizens were not home to report what they did, so that is all we have.

The kind citizens hope you don’t catch a fever in this topsy-turvy weather.
