The Elm Springs News

August 19, 2007

While the people of Hermosa clear the mud off their doorsteps, and while the people of Piedmont remove the icicles from their automobiles, the kind citizens of Elm Springs are forced to smile over the fact that they received twenty hundredths of an inch of rain over the weekend. No one is really happy, it seems.

Some of the kind citizens attended the fifth annual Cammack Ranch Supply Ranchers Roundup on Saturday in Union Center. The evening entertainment was Montana singer and humorist Ken Overcast.

Clyde, Connie and Kelsey Arneson picked up Chase in Spearfish and drove to Denver Monday for a three day vacation. They returned Wednesday night. On Sunday, Matt Trask encountered Clyde Arneson on the road. Clyde had saddled his horse and driven out to round up a stray bull. After loading the bull in the trailer, there was no room for the horse, so Clyde was driving home leading the horse out the window. Clyde and Matt had a nice chat about modern farming practices.

Lonnie Arneson and Teri Ramsdell hosted Andy and Ben Linn, Bill Tines, Terry Lynch and the Ryan Elsheres for supper Friday night. On Sunday, Lonnie and Teri went to Chuck E Cheese in Rapid City, where they joined the JJ Elsheres, Marcia Arneson and Tina Anderson in celebrating young Talon Elsheres birhday.

Clyde Arneson was a coffee visitor at the Lawrence Burke residence Sunday morning, and Lawrence Burke was a guest at the Clyde Arneson residence for happy hour Sunday afternoon.

The Ryan Elsheres joined the extended Elshere family at Shadehill Reservoir over the weekend.

Larry and Peggy Gravatt visited the “Upland Trask” residence Monday to wish Maria a happy birthday. On Thursday, Peggy visited Marion Case at her cabin in the Black Hills, eating supper in Deadwood and returning Friday morning.

Troy, Tracy and Samantha Reimer of Las Vegas NV visited the Sam Johnston residence Wednesday to ride horseback. The Reimers left Thursday. On Saturday the Sam Johnstons went to Tilford Gulch Campground to attend the Johnston family reunion over the weekend.

Kellie Linn helped Joy Smiley celebrate her birthday with a trip to Hill City and the Black Hills Playhouse Thursday. Kellie attended QE classes in Spearfish over the weekend, while her kids spent their time at the “Big House.”

Shirrise Linn brought Laura and Katie Wilsey out from Rapid City Wednesday, and they spent the rest of the week at the “Big House.” Charlotte visited Sunday to pick them up.

Kassandra Linn visited the “Upland Trask” residence on Monday to help Maria celebrate her birthday, which they did at the Wall swimming pool. Shirrise and Kassandra visited the Wilsey residence in Rapid City on Wednesday. On Thursday Shirrise and Kassandra took stamp contest entries at the Central States Fair, staying all night at Grandma Arlene Talley’s in Rapid City. Shirrise and Kassandra returned to Rapid City Saturday to watch Bummer Simons play in the state baseball tournament. Jack Simons was a dinner guest at the Morris Linn residence, while Charlotte Wilsey visited in the afternoon.

Matt and John Paul Trask and Dustin Reeves of Owanka were dinner guests at the Jim Smith residence Thursday. Andrew Smith of Pierre spent the weekend at the Jim Smith residence.

Amanda Humphrey and Lainee Mae visited the Cary Tines residence Thursday afternoon. Cary Tines hosted Joe Trask, Sean Troxel and JW Wrachford on Sunday.

Al, Bridget, and Little Pat Trask went to Rapid City Sunday, where Al went golfing with Nick and John Paul Trask while Bridget, Little Pat and Tracey Orsburn went shopping. Al and Bridget hosted Matt, Nick, John Paul Joe and Austin Trask and Tracey Orsburn for a movie Sunday night at the Castle.

The “Upland Trasks” had a busy week. Maria Trask turned thirteen on Monday, which she celebrated with numerous visits from friends and a swimming excursion to Wall. Most of the “Upland Trasks” went to Wall Wednesday night and ate at the Red Rock Restaurant. Several of the “Upland Trasks” went to Rapid City Friday to drop off Danny Doerr and do some school shopping. Tracey Orsburn of Colorado Springs CO arrived Friday to spend the weekend. Nick and Julie Trask and Tracey Orsburn attended the Mark Misar/Bobbi Knight wedding dance in Faith Saturday night.. On Sunday, almost all of the “Upland Trasks” went to Rapid City for an afternoon of fun before Julie left for Ft. Collins CO to begin school.

Matt Trask visited the “Big Green Trask House” in Wall Tuesday evening, just in time for ice cream bars. On Wednesday, Matt attended a meeting of the Ft. Pierre to Deadwood Trailride committee at T-34 truckstop near Milesville. Gina Schultze and daughter of Seattle WA stopped by the Matt Trask residence Thursday afternoon looking for the Elm Springs Cemetery. Matt was happy to point out that it was approximately 200 yards to their left, hidden from view by a shelterbelt. On Saturday, Matt attended the Mark Misar/Bobbi Knight wedding south of Faith and subsequent dance in Faith.

Pam Wilson arrived at the Philip Wilson residence Sunday afternoon for a week long stay.

Melvin and Dorothy Anderson joined Jean and Kellie Linn and Jim and Myrna Smith on a Monday evening visit to the Harold Delbridge residence near Red Owl. Dorothy went to Rapid City Thursday to attend a High Tea hosted by Carolynn Schnose and Lily Rose Auker of Texas.

The kind citizens hope you have a wonderful week.
