The Elm Springs News

August 14, 2006

We were blessed with more reasonable temperatures here in Elm Springs this past week, and boy did it feel like a blessing.

No mention has been made in the ESN of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which did not go unnoticed. The number of Harley Davidson motorcycles toodling through downtown Elm Springs on any given day during the Rally is rather surprising.

Members of the Dalzell Wives Club met Wednesday morning at the Marvin Anders residence for iced tea. Members present were Carolyn Anders, Kelly Anders, and Bridget Trask.

We have it on good authority that Clyde Arneson went on vacation. Exactly where he went or when he left is not known, but the simple fact that he did is big news.

Before he left, Clyde was a Tuesday visitor at the Lawrence Burke residence, while Rusell Bumeister visited the Burkes on Thursday, the same day that Lawrence took Doris to Wall for a belated birthday supper. Grandson Skyler Burke was a visitor Sunday afternoon. Skyler it should be noted, was a member of the Rapid City youth trap-shooting team that took second at a national trap-shooting competition in Sparta, IL recently. The other Rapid City team took first.

Jean Linn and Charlotte, Laura and Katie Wilsey were Saturday visitors at the Lynn Fields residence to view Sandy’s stamp collection.

Brad Bookbinder arrived in Elm Springs Thursday from his year-long stay in China, where he taught English. Larry and Peggy Gravatt and Brad went to Rapid City Thursday to visit Jack. Matt Trask visited the Gravatt residence Friday to see Brad and also eat the chocolate chip cookies on the table. Saturday, while Larry and Peggy visited the “Upland Trasks” to wish Maria a happy Sunday birthday, Brad went to Rapid City to visit Jack Gravatt and Bruce, Miranda, and Baby Kitterman. Larry and Brad went to Wall Sunday for a round of golf.

Eudell and Marilyn Larsen and all of the kids except Quaid visited the Sam Johnston residence Thursday evening to pick up Quaid. Matt Trask also visited the Sam Johnston residence that evening, for no apparent reason. Sam and Cary accompanied Rod and Kelly Anders Friday to the Stone House Saloon near Belle Fourche. Young Calder spent part of the week helping Uncle Rick Johnston at his place near Red Owl.

Matt Trask was a visitor at the Andy Linn residence Tuesday night. On Saturday, Kellie and the kids met Charlie and Carol Linn at the Journey Museum to view the dinosaur exhibit before going to the Charlie Linn residence for lunch.

John and Jean Linn visited the Brett Wilsey residence in Rapid City for dinner Wednesday. Brett and family returned the favor, arriving at the “Big House” on Friday and staying through Saturday.

Shirrise and Kassandra Linn accompanied Cheryl Simons on her trip to Rochester, MN Sunday morning.

Young Jace O’Rourke broke his arm Tuesday. Lane O’Rourke visited Al and Bridget’s Castle Sunday evening.

Bud and Bunny Pauley and girls left Sunday for North Dakota, first watching Jesse Bail ride at a rodeo at Sentinel Butte and then attending the musical at Medora. Monday they visited Papa Rex Burghduff near Camp Crook, staying all night. The Pauley girls attended a play-day rodeo at Enning Wednesday, and Emma Lou Reeves spent the night with them. Saturday, the Pauley girls attended their last play-day rodeo of the season, in Lemmon.

Al and Bridget Trask hosted Matt Trask Sunday afternoon.

The “Upland Trasks” celebrated two birthdays during the week, Gemma’s on Wednesday and Maria’s on Sunday. There was a big birthday supper at the “Upland Trask” residence on Wednesday with Al and Bridget Trask and Joe, Autumn, John Wayne and Sheridan Deering in attendance. Autumn Deering stayed overnight with the Three Little Girls in a tent in the front yard. Friday, Pat, Matt, Julie, John Paul, Gemma and Celine Trask attended the Micheal Martin Murphey concert at the Elks Theatre in Rapid City while RoseMary and Maria Trask attended the Mass of Consecration for Susan Safford at the Cathedral, also in Rapid City. Sunday, RoseMary and the Three Little Girls picked up Cheyenne and Autumn Deering in Wasta and went to Rapid City for an afternoon of swimming. Sunday night, more Deering girls stayed with the Three Little Girls.

Matt Trask, besides the things mentioned above, didn’t do much.

Kenny and Janet Wilson attended a barbeque at the Dave Jedlicka residence Saturday.

There are two announcements in this weeks ESN, and they will be made in chronological order.

The first is your invitation to the Pancake Breakfast at the way-cool Dixie Diner in Wasta on Saturday to raise money for the Elm Springs Church and Cemetery. The breakfast begins at 5 am.

And the second is your invitation to Kenny and Janet Wilson’s 25th Anniversary celebration at Canyon Lake Park in Rapid City on Sunday August 20th, beginning at one pm. This function has been described in an e-mail as a “semi-potluck.” You may need your wife to help you decide what that means.

The kind citizens hope the milder weather holds out.
