The Elm Springs News

August 12, 2007

A bunch of the kind citizens seem to be saving their social energy for that beautiful day in the future when the weather has moderated. The future, by the way, seems to be a long way off.

The Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, although somewhat smaller this year, has not escaped notice even in Elm Springs. Three of the “Upland Trasks” encountered a pair of motorcyclers on the Elk Creek bottom near the Freddy Ferguson residence. When asked if they needed assistance, they replied in an obviously New York accent that no, they were just “enjoyin’ da beauty.” Of the scenery we suppose.

The Elm Springs Fire Department was one of several to respond to a grass fire near Plainview Sunday afternoon.

Andy Linn and his kids were helpful visitors at the Clyde Arneson residence Saturday.

Lonnie Arneson hosted Stacey Madsen and Mark and Caleb Philips for dinner at his place Saturday.

Russell Burmeister and Dale Lewis, both of Wasta, were Monday afternoon visitors at the Lawrence Burke residence. Lawrence went to Rapid City Friday, and on the way home he visited Arnold Matt in New Underwood.

Sandy Fields went to Chamberlain Saturday, where she met daughter Heather Langley of Sioux Falls. She returned with three of her grandchildren, Austin, Marshall and Aspen.

Peggy Gravatt went to Rapid City Friday, where after running errands she visited Jack and had lunch with Brad Bookbinder. On Sunday Larry went to Rapid City to meet Coral and Brett Erickson and Madi and Steele, who treated him to a round of golf as a belated Fathers Day gift.

Pat and Julie Trask were Saturday morning visitors at the Andy Linn residence.

Shirrise and Kassandra Linn went to Rapid City Monday to help Sandy Van Vleck celebrate her birthday. On Tuesday the Morris Linns went to Rapid City to have lunch with Gene and Marsha Pluth. Clyde Arneson was a dinner guest at the Morris Linn residence on Wednesday. On Friday, Amber Brookman of Rapid City arrived at the Morris Linns to spend the weekend and she was joined for dinner by Nick Trask and Tom Bruch. On Saturday Amber was joined by Jack and Cheryl Simons. She left Sunday afternoon.

Bridget and Little Pat Trask went to Rapid City on Tuesday for appointments and errands. At Best Buy, they encountered Uncle Matt, who they took to supper at IHOP. Now wasn’t that nice of them? They returned to Rapid City on Thursday to run more errands. John Paul Trask and Larry Schell were visitors at Al and Bridget’s Castle Sunday.

Baxter Anders visited the Matt Trask residence Friday night.

The “Upland Trasks” are hosting young Danny Doerr of Minnesota for a week or so. He arrived Tuesday. John Paul Trask left Monday for a priest and seminarian retreat in the Black Hills. He met the “Upland Trasks,” the Al Trasks, Ray Olson, and the Don Doerrs in Rapid City Thursday for Gemma’s 14th birthday party, with dinner at the Millstone Restaurant and mini golf at Putz ‘n Glo. Saturday night, Fr. Tim Hoag of Spearfish, who filled in for Fr. Hausmann, was a supper guest at the “Upland Trask” residence, along with the Al Trasks.

Darell and Norma Harer were guests of the Philip Wilsons Wednesday and Thursday.

Melvin and Dorothy Anderson attended the Patty Grimm funeral on Tuesday in Rapid City. Laramie Opstedahl was a dinner guest Friday at the Melvin Anderson residence and grandson Taylor arrived to spend Friday night.

The kind citizens hope you take time to “enjoy da beauty.”
