The Elm Springs News

Larry and Peggy Gravatt had the weekly Elm Springs fire on Thursday, which burned about half of what is commonly referred to as the “golf course pasture” before it was extinguished.

The WTL club met at the “Big House” Monday. Members in attendance, besides Jean Linn, were Sandy Fields, Peggy Gravatt, RoseMary Trask, and Caroline Wilsey. Larry Gravatt was invited to give his presentation on the Elm Springs Hall, which is in dire need of residing. Maria and Celine Trask and Kassandra Linn were also more or less in attendance.

Marvin and Baxter Anders attended the Matched Bronc Ride in Wall on Thursday, and Rod and Baxter attended the Weller quarterhorse sale in Kadoka on Friday.

And young Dunbar Anders won a jackpot team roping in Broken Bow, NE during the week.

Clyde Arneson said it best, so we’ll let him say it. “Me and my darling wife,” said Clyde, “attended the bronc ride (in Wall) on Thursday. And that’s about it.” Thank you Clyde.

The Ryan Elsheres attended the Matched Bronc ride in Wall on Thursday where Ryan competed. On Friday they traveled to Sidney, MT where Ryan competed in a rodeo. From there, Ryan, accompanied by Brandon West and Wade Yost, traveled to Gilette, WY to compete in another rodeo Saturday while the rest of his family visited the Marcia Arneson residence in Rapid City.

Lois Lapp visited the Lynn and Sandy Fields residence Tuesday to bring Sandy some beets she had grown in her garden.

Brad Bookbinder spent part of the weekend at the Larry Gravatt residence.

Kevin and Karen Chmielnic (pronounced “SCHMELL-nic”) and their sons Tom and Brian of New Windsor, NY visited the Andy Linn residence Sunday. Morris Linn visited the Andy Linns Sunday afternoon.

Kassandra Linn spent several afternoons at the “Big House” this week.

Morris and Kassandra managed to survive the week without Shirrise with a few trips to the “Upland Trask” residence. Shirrise returned from the Stampin’ Up! Convention in Denver, CO on Friday. Andy Linn was a coffee visitor at the Morris Linn residence Monday morning.

Matt Trask was a supper guest at the Joe Deering residence on Monday and the Cary Tines residence on Wednesday. Matt and Julie visited the Terry Schell residence, where Julie graciously paid for Matt’s haircut because Matt forgot to bring any money. Gemma Trask stayed overnight at the Matt Trask residence Friday night.

In addition to hosting Kassandra Linn several afternoons this week, the “Upland Trasks” hosted Tom Bruch of Sturgis several nights and Kelly Yantes of Rapid City over the weekend. Pat and RoseMary attended the funeral of family friend Lyle Maxon in Rapid City on Thursday. Celine Trask spent Friday night at the Joe Deering residence. Mark and Mick Trask and several of the “Upland Trasks” went to play around in what’s left of the Cheyenne River Sunday afternoon.

Although their return was delayed several hours in Chicago, IL, Tom and Shelia Trask arrived safely back from Africa Sunday night.

Jim and Caroline Wilsey left Saturday for North Carolina to return grandchildren Zach and Zara, who thoroughly enjoyed their summer with Grandpa and Grandma. Bunny Pauley and her girls are watching the Wilsey ranch in their absence.

Kelly Wilson attended a cheerleading camp in Platte during the week. Tyler Wilson and Heather Sessions and family visited the Kenny Wilson residence over the weekend.

Kaycee Craft arrived at the Melvin Anderson residence Monday for a weeks stay. And what a week it was! Dale and Mary Lewis of Wasta visited Monday afternoon. On Tuesday, Dorothy and Kaycee went to Rapid City to buy material for the quilt they were going to make. In between quilting sessions, they managed to entertain Laramie Opstedahl of Owanka on Wednesday, welcome Lisa and Ben Craft on Thursday, go to Rapid City Saturday, and celebrate Dorothy’s birthday Saturday night at the Anderson residence in the company of Joe Deering and his family and Lisa Scott and Celine Trask.

The Crafts left Sunday evening.

The Most Reverend Blase Cupich, bishop of the Diocese of Rapid City, said Mass at St. Margaret’s in Lakeside Saturday night. Father Hausmann is in Minneapolis, MN, where his brother Peter was killed in the bridge disaster there. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hausmann family.

And the Larry Gravatts would like to thank everyone who helped put out their fire on Thursday.

The kind citizens hope you have a nice week.
