Elm Springs News

The rain now falls with such regularity in Elm Springs that it is now being taken almost for granted, and, human nature being what it is, the rain has even caused some small scale grumbling.

The Elm Springs Memorial Day program was well attended on Monday. Of special note was Mr. Scott Gunn’s renditions of “Amazing Grace” and “Danny Boy” on the bagpipes, after taking up the awkward instrument only last year.

Jim and Caroline Wilsey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday with an open house, and as kind citizen Doris Burke put it, “everybody and their dog was there.”

Dance lessons began in Elm Springs Thursday night, under the direction of Rich and Judie Nordstrom of Rapid City. There was a large, young, and enthusiastic crowd on hand to learn the Texas Two Step. It should be noted that all are welcome to find a dancing partner and visit the Elm Springs Hall for the next three weeks on Thursdays at 7 pm. Cost is $24 dollars.

Marvin and Carolyn Anders attended brother Bernard Anders birthday party in Spearfish Sunday.

Baxter Anders competed in the Wall Regional High School Rodeo over the weekend, and Rod and Dunny were there to cheer him on.

Clyde Arneson accompanied Jim Elshere and Chrissy Elshere to Ft. Pierre for the Matched Bronc Ride over the weekend, to watch Ryan Elshere eventually win it.

Clyde was the lone coffee visitor at the Lawrence and Doris Burke residence during the week, on Saturday.

Ryan Elshere, accompanied by his brother JJ, competed at rodeos in Cherokee IA, and Medford, WS, before competing in the Matched Bronc Ride.

Larry and Peggy Gravatt attended the WREA trip to Beulah ND Thursday and Friday. John and Donna Gravatt of California were visitors at the Jack Gravatt residence Thursday, and Cherry Denke spent Thursday night at the Jack Gravatt residence.

John and Jean Linn left Tuesday for a camper convention in Aberdeen.

Arlene Talley and Dayton Shannon were vistors at the Morris Linn residence Monday, and attended the Memorial Day Program. The Morris Linns were supper guests at the Andy Linns Monday night. Wednesday visitors were Clyde and Connie Arneson.

Thursday Morris, Shirrise and Kassandra were visitors at the Jack Simons residence. Friday Peg Ireland and Sarah Miller were dinner guests. Saturday Sandy Van Vleck of Wall was a scrapbooking visitor. Sunday Jack and Bummer Simons and Teddy Baker were guests, and Clyde Arneson was an afternoon visitor.

Matt Trask was a visitor at the Cary Tines residence Saturday afternoon. Sunday Kody DeVries was a coffee visitor at the Cary Tines residence before accompanying Cary and Pam to Rapid City.

The “Upland Trasks” had another busy week. Nick and Chris Fischer, accompanied by Matt, attended the Gene Baker wedding in Spearfish Monday, staying all night in Spearfish and returning Tuesday, visiting Bummer Simons on the way home. RoseMary, Maria and Celine attended the Fred and Arlene White anniversary party in Wall Saturday night. Visitors for the week, besides Chris “Slim” Fischer, were Dave and Chad Finneman, Wyatt Volmer, John Tines, Tyler and Patrick Wilson, Clay Tines, Sean Troxel, Nick Sessions of WY, Terry Finley of Rapid City, and Morris Linn.

Visitors at the Matt Trask residence were Slim Fischer on Tuesday and Kody Devries on Sunday morning. Matt attended the Friday wedding of Chance Dennis to Hope Stratmeyer in Rapid City and subsequent reception near Sturgis. On Sunday, Matt grabbed the world and swung it by the tail around his head in a dazzling display of gluttony which began at the Wall Drug Store with breakfast on Dan Turgeon, in the company of Dan and his daughters, Ashley and Caitlin, continued at the Cheyenne River under the old highway bridge with a picnic in honor of Tom Shulls unquantified birthday, continued further at the Wilsey anniversary party, and ended at the ever-popular Morris Linn residence.

Cary and Clay Tines and Kody DeVries were gun-toting visitors at the “Brustol AFB” Sunday morning.

Philip and Mary Kay Wilson had supper with Stuart and Shirley Kitterman of Wall at the Circle 10 Cafe near Cactus Flats Saturday before picking up Pam, who returned from Girls State.

Dorothy Anderson kept appointments in Rapid City on Tuesday. On Thursday, she met Leslie and Taylor Anderson for dinner, bringing Taylor back with her to help out for a few days. Saturday, the Andersons went to Pierre to visit Rose Anderson and take in the Matched Bronc Ride and attending festivities.

The kind citizens wish you a beautiful Matt-free week. And don’t forget to grab a partner and some dancing shoes and come to Elm Springs on Thursday!
