The Elm Springs News
May 27, 2007
It was rather windy and rather chilly in Elm Springs all week. The kind citizens really didn’t know what to think of that.
Cary and Pam Tines are proud to announce that granddaughter Lainee Mae was born to John Tines and Amanda Humphrey at 1:40 am Tuesday, weighing 7 lbs. 1 oz. And measuring 19 ½ inches.
The children of the Elm Springs school were released for summer recess on Wednesday. Prior to that, an 8th grade graduation ceremony was held on Monday to recognize Calder Johnston, Gemma Trask, Mary Berry and Paige Niederwerder, and the Elm Springs schoolchildren participated in the Meade 46-1 Spelling Bee in Union Center on Tuesday. After the spelling bee, music awards were given to various students, and kind citizen Kellie Linn joined fellow clarinetist and Meade 46-1 principal Bev Rosenboom to perform with the Meade 46-1 band, under the direction of Mrs. Jump.
ElmSprings held the annual cemetery cleanup day on Wednesday, prior to Monday’s Memorial Day service.
There will not be much in the ESN this week for two reasons, first, it seems not many people made time for social activities, and second, the Morris Linns are not home to report what they did.
Russell Burmeister visited the Lawrence Burke residence Tuesday afternoon.
Peggy Gravatt spent Tuesday with Dora Mae Jensen, visiting the National Cemetery and grocery shopping. Shelia and Tomilyn Trask visited the Gravatt residence Thursday evening. Barry Gravatt brought Jack Gravatt out Friday evening to spend the night. The Jerry Gravatts and the Byron Denkes, among others, were visitors Saturday. Mike, Amber and Abigail Miller of Arvada CO visited the Gravatt residence Sunday. Grandpa Larry happily saddled daughter Amber’s old barrel horse so that 2 year old granddaughter Amber could take her first ride.
John and Jean Linn attended Walt and Ethel Cobb’s 50th wedding anniversary at the VFW hall in Sturgis Saturday night. On Sunday, they attended Merlin and Patsy Fenner’s 50th wedding anniversary in New Underwood. It should be noted that Jim and Caroline Wilsey attended the Fenner party as well.
In a “country karma” sort of thing, Cary and Pam Tines visited the Morris Linn residence Thursday to use their clothes dryer, as they are having trouble with their own. Shirrise, who has been experiencing oven trouble, may visit the Cary Tines residence for her baking needs in the future. Of course, Matt Trask owns neither a clothes dryer or an oven.
Matt and Nick Trask and Patrick Wilson visited Al and Bridget’s Castle Saturday night.
Even the “Upland Trasks” cannot be counted on to fill the void in this week’s ESN. Pat and RoseMary went to Rapid City Friday, and Sean Troxel visited the “Upland Trask” residence Sunday afternoon.
Jim and Caroline Wilsey took a Sunday afternoon horseback ride together, with the half-hearted objective of finding some yearlings they “hadn’t seen in a while.” They found one.
Bill Cleek and George Gatesly left the Melvin and Dorothy Anderson residence Friday morning, bound for Indiana. Joann Sutton and Bobbi Claudillo visited the Andersons Friday and Fred, Jane and Charles Karp were supper guests Friday night.
The kind citizens wish you a wonderful week.
