The Elm Springs News

May 20, 2007

We are very thankful for the grass which has grown in Elm Springs due to the recent rains; however if more grass is to grow, we need more recent rains.

The Elm Springs schoolchildren went on yet another field trip Friday, this time to Rapid City, where they visited the Prairie Edge Trading Gallery, the Science and Art Center, and the Watiki Waterpark, presumably to study water currents.

Several of the kind citizens attended the “Nita” Jepsen funeral in Wall on Monday.

Ryan and Evan Burkinshaw of Wall were Friday and Saturday night guests at the Rod Anders residence.

Lawrence and Doris Burke began to suspect Wednesday that their refrigerator was on its last legs, because as Doris put it, “when you opened the door, warm air come out instead of cold air.” They purchased a new refrigerator in Rapid City Thursday, and Clyde Arneson visited the Burke residence Friday to help Lawrence move it in.

Peggy Gravatt’s childhood friends Marilyn Hansen of Charlotte, NC and Janine Rowe of Rochester NY arrived at the Larry Gravatt residence Tuesday and spent the week with Peggy. The three found time to do everything except kiss George Washington’s nose. Actually they never visited Mt. Rushmore at all but they did spend two nights in Deadwood, ride the 1880 Train, visit the Prairie Berry Winery, and visit Wall Drug and the Badlands. They also found time to enjoy a day at the ranch “heading ‘em off at the pass.” Meanwhile, Larry went to a meeting in Bison on Friday and visited the Jerry Gravatt residence on Saturday.

The Sam Johnstons visited the Steve Held residence near Broadus MT on Saturday. Twila Trask of Wall visited the Sam Johnston residence Sunday afternoon.

Clyde Arneson visited the Andy Linn residence Saturday night.

And Charlie Linn of Rapid City and Harvey Holsworth of Pierre visited the John Linn residence Wednesday.

Shirrise Linn and Cheryl Simons went to Rapid City Wednesday for appointments. Clyde Arneson was an evening visitor at the Morris Linn residence. Kassandra Linn visited the Bud Pauley residence after school on Tuesday. Morris went to Wall on Wednesday. Morris and Ray Olsen went to Rapid City Thursday, while Kassandra went to spend the night at the Marty Neiderwerder residence. Shirrise and Kassandra attended Peg Irelands retirement party in Box Elder Friday. On Saturday night, the Morris Linns joined Jack and Cheryl Simons at the Scott Simons residence near Union Center for supper.

Bunny Pauley and the girls visited the Alvina Glade residence Tuesday and Wednesday. Dean Andrews of Opal visited the Bud Pauley residence Wednesday morning. The Pauley girls competed in the Playday Rodeo in Lemmon Saturday, where they did very well. Young Mattee Ann placed in every event she entered.

David Smith and John Phelps of Rapid City left Friday for Australia.

John Tines and Amanda Humphrey visited the Cary Tines residence Friday evening. Tracy Kluck was a weekend guest at the Cary Tines residence. And on Sunday, Cary, Pam and John Tines and Amanda Humphrey attended the Kadoka High School graduation.

The “Madrid Army” left Al and Bridgets Castle Tuesday morning, bound for Columbus. Nothing much happened at the Castle after that until Sunday evening, when Nick, Julie and Gemma Trask came to visit.

Pat and RoseMary Trask attended the Wall High School athletic awards banquet Wednesday evening. Pat, Matt, Nick and Julie all visited the Norm Currant residence in Wasta Wednesday night to help Billie Hulm celebrate her birthday.

The “Upland Trask” weekend was somewhat hectic, with Ryan and Evan Burkinshaw as Thursday night guests, Autumn Deering arriving Friday to spend the weekend, Joe Trask serving as an usher at the Wall graduation Saturday, Joe, Austin, cousin Jaymie Trask, Baxter and Dunbar Anders and Ryan and Evan Burkinshaw all going fishing Saturday afternoon, and Joe Kennedy and Ben Anderson of Wall coming out Sunday to do some more fishing.

Matt Trask attended a meeting in Wall Friday night. Prior to the meeting, Matt, who is having water trouble at his house, bopped over to the Cary Tines residence to take a quick shower. He forgot his rubber ducky. On Saturday Matt attended the Wall graduation, and receptions for Matthew Rausch and Jayl Rieb, at the Wasta Community Center and the Wasta Bar respectively. Nick Trask and Patrick Wilson were visitors at the Matt Trask residence Saturday night. And on Sunday, Matt attended a graduation party for Theresa Bruch at the Bruch residence near Bear Butte. By Sunday night, he was completely full of graduation cake.

Jim and Caroline Wilsey attended the same meeting in Wall Friday night that Matt Trask attended.

Notable guests at the Wilson branding on Saturday were the Kevin Howlands of Rapid City, Linda Kroetch of Philip, and Tyler Wilson and family of Newcastle WY.

Last weekend, Melvin and Dorothy Anderson attended the Riley Anderson/Shana Simon wedding. From there, the Andersons made a whirlwind business trip to Eureka and Aberdeen before picking up Melvin’s sister Linda Coyle of Temeculah, CA in Pierre. They arrived home Monday evening to find that Bill Cleek and George Gatesly of Indiana had beaten them there. The three guests mentioned above spent most of the week at the Melvin Anderson residence. On Saturday, George Deering of Ft. Collins CO visited the Melvin Anderson residence, while Dorothy went to visit Shirrise Linn. On Sunday, Melvin and Dorothy attended the Spearfish High School graduation to watch grandson Tyler graduate.

The kind citizens hope it rains again pretty soon.
