The Elm Springs News

January 16, 2006

The “winter doldrums” have made themselves at home in Elm Springs, even while the weather insists on being spring-like most days.

The People Who Play Cards met at the Kenny Wilson residence Wednesday for their January game. Lawrence Burke and Larry Gravatt had the same high score at the end of the night, and Larry Gravatt won the coin-toss to become January’s winner.

Several kind citizens attended either the Don Trigg funeral in Sturgis or the burial at the National Cemetery Friday.

It was hoped that the couple would report this directly to the ESN, but since they did not, and since Friday they hosted a chivaree party at their home, it should be noted that Rod Anders was recently married to Kelly Thompson during a trip to Hawaii. The Friday party was well attended.

In other wedding news, the exact date of the Al Trask/Bridget Madrid wedding is once again up in the air. Subsequent reschedulings will not be reported in the ESN until there is a level of certainty in the matter.

Lawrence Burke was a coffee visitor at the Clyde Arneson residence Monday morning. Friday, he and Doris went to Rapid City to keep appointments, meeting Melissa Burke for lunch.

In addition to hosting Lawrence Burke Monday morning, Clyde Arneson went to Sturgis Thursday on business, had supper at the Lonnie Arneson residence Friday night and breakfast there Saturday morning, and was the lone visitor to the Matt Trask residence Sunday morning.

Ryan Elshere, accompanied by Billy Martin, left Wednesday for Odessa, TX, where he competed in a rodeo and also visited Cinnamon Johnston, who is going to college there. While he was gone, the Billy Eastman family visited at the Elshere residence over the weekend. The Eastmans and the Elsheres also went to the Lonnie Arneson residence for supper and breakfast. Sunday, Chrissy and kids attended young Tabor Omans birthday party in Rapid City at the Ramkota Hotel.

Some of the Andy Linn children went to play at the Sam Johnston residence, and some of the Sam Johnston children went to play at the Andy Linn residence Sunday afternoon, before the Sam Johnstons visited the Andy Linns to visit and presumably sort children.

Cary and Pam Tines entertained John and Ty Tines, Amanda Humphrey, JW and Dara Wrachford, Sean Troxel, Kody DeVries, and Matt Trask Sunday night.

Shirrise Linn went visited Jack and Cheryl Simons Tuesday. Wednesday, she visited the Cliff Matt family. Chuck and Sandy Van Vleck were visitors at the Morris Linns Friday, staying all night. Saturday, Shirrise visited her mom, who is in the hospital in Sturgis with pneumonia. And Sunday, Shirrise attended the Vicki Matt Memorial before visiting her mom again.

The “Upland Trasks” had a rather slow week, if you don’t count the fact that Al Trask left for Columbus OH again on Friday. John Paul and Joe Trask participated in the Philip wrestling tournament and were cheered on by RoseMary, Austin, and Celine on Friday and Pat on Saturday. Visitors for the week included Ray Olsen and Morris and Andy Linn.

Julie Trask accompanied Matt Trask to the Brad Paisley concert Friday night, where Matt stood in awe, forgetting even food, as Mr. Paisley coaxed manic country licks from a succession of ever prettier Telecaster guitars and Dr. Z amplifiers. And Joe Trask accompanied Matt to the Wasta Centennial Committee meeting on Sunday, where Matt behaved more like himself. After the meeting, Matt and Joe visited briefly at the Tammy Green residence.

Jim Wilsey and Carol Price went to Hot Springs Friday to visit their brother Howard. Saturday, Jim and Caroline had supper at the Bud Pauley residence.

Kenny and Janet Wilson went to Newcastle WY Saturday, where they visited Tyler Wilson and Jack and Phyliss Curtis. Sunday, they had lunch at the Audrey Weiser residence in Owanka.

Philip Wilson went to Hot Springs Tuesday, to watch Pam Wilson and the other Lady Eagles do very well at the gymnastics tournament. On Saturday, Philip and Mary Kay helped Patrick move to a new place in Rapid City.

Melvin and Dorothy Anderson met their Make A Wish girl, Krystyna Nible and her mother for lunch Friday. Saturday, they attended the V-E Grazing Association Reunion at a place called Whitlock crossing before visiting relatives in Linton, ND.

The kind citizens would like to offer their sympathies to the Cliff Matt family.
