The Elm Springs News
May 14, 2007
As the week progressed, the temperature rose dramatically here in Elm Springs, until Mother’s Day was certified blazing hot, with the “Elk Creek Trasks” recording a daytime high of 105 degrees.
The Elm Springs schoolchildren participated in the Meade County Rally Day at Woodle Field in Sturgis on Friday, having fun and doing well. The organizers of the Rally Day thought it prudent to announce that recently a mountain lion has been spotted enjoying various sporting events at Woodle Field, but fortunately no one was eaten on Friday.
Several of the kind citizens attended a wedding shower and supper for Mandy Wilson at the Lutheran Church in Wall Saturday night.
Marvin and Carolyn Anders attended the high school rodeos in Wall and New Underwood over the weekend, in which Baxter and Dunbar competed.
Travis and Edith Arneson of Sioux Falls arrived at the Lonnie Arneson residence Friday night to spend the weekend.
Lawrence Burke attended the Myrtle Quinn funeral in New Underwood Thursday. Lawrence and Doris met Melissa in Wasta on Mother’s Day, continuing on to Wall for lunch.
Jason Fields was a visitor at the Lynn Fields residence over the weekend.
Larry and Peggy Gravatt joined Rod and Cheryl Renner of Wall at the “Elk Creek Trask” residence on Sunday for Mother’s Day dinner.
Sam, Calder and Carson Johnston attended a 3on 3 basketball tournament in Wall Saturday night, in which Calder participated.
Andy Linn was a Sunday morning visitor at the “Upland Trask” residence, where he had coffee before borrowing their tiller.
John, Jean and Jim Linn attended Laura and Katie Wilsey’s dance recital at the Civic Center in Rapid City Saturday night. It should be noted that Shirrise and Kassandra Linn also attended the recital.
Shirrise Linn and Cheryl Simons went to Rapid City on Monday, where they visited Grandma Arlene and Dayton Shannon. Kassandra Linn visited the Cary Tines residence Tuesday morning and the Bud Pauley residence Tuesday afternoon. Shirrise was a coffee visitor at the Cary Tines residence Wednesday morning, and Smilin’ Jaclyn Neiderwerder visited the Morris Linn residence Wednesday afternoon. The Morris Linns celebrated Mother’s Day at the Jack and Cheryl Simons residence in the company of the Scott, Bummer and Sanden Simons’ and Grandma Margaret. Cheryl Simons joined the Linns when they went home.
Cary and Pam Tines visited Jack Tines on Saturday, while Clay attended the New Underwood High School graduation exercises. Cary and Pam celebrated Mother’s Day in the company of JW and Dara Wrachford with a motorcycle excursion to Philip, stopping to eat in Wall.
The “Madrid Army” laid a merry siege on Al and Bridget’s Castle Wednesday evening. The reader will have to pay close attention here; Nancy, Kelly, Audrey, Monica, Blaise, Tim, Hillary, Max, Madeline, Judith, Augustine, Theodore, Becca, and Steven Madrid all arrived in Elm Springs from Hebron, OH for an extended stay. The Castle proved too small for such an occupation, so Al and Bridget scurried around borrowing campers from several of the neighbors to accommodate all their guests. A narrative of all the adventures from the Castle to the “Upland Trask” residence and points in between would get very long indeed, but we can say that they had a great time, there were few accidents, and the “Upland Trasks” and the “Madrid Army” spent Mother’s Day on Sheridan Lake in several groaning boats.
Matt Trask attended the New Underwood High School graduation exercises Saturday. After stopping by the Community Center to wish several graduates good luck and congratulations, he chose to spend the remainder of the afternoon at the Larry and Faye Volmer residence, drinking tea and eating cake.
Tom and Shelia Trask attended the Philip schools Awards Banquet Thursday night, where the “Elk Creek Trask” kids picked up their share.
Kenny and Janet Wilson attended the Wall High School play Sunday night to watch Kelli.
And Philip, Mary Kay and Patrick Wilson took a Mother’s Day motorcycle excursion to Spearfish Canyon Sunday, stopping to eat at Taco John’s.
The kind citizens hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day.
