The Elm Springs News
April 29, 2007
The gorgeous spring weather here in Elm Springs has really contributed to the growth of the grass, much to everyone’s content.
Several of the kind citizens attended either the Kitterman auction north of Wall or Eula Fergusons 93rd birthday party at the way-cool Dixie Diner, or both on Sunday.
Marvin and Carolyn Anders attended the Ray Price concert in Rapid City Tuesday night. Carolyn accompanied Twila Trask and Pam Livermont to Deadwood Friday night, where they attended a polka fest featuring Fr. Arni Kari on the accordion, before staying all night. And Carolyn hit it big at a slot machine as well, pocketing an undisclosed amount of money. On Sunday, Carolyn elected to spend the afternoon at the “Big Green Trask House” in Wall while Marvin went to the auction.
Clyde Arneson was a coffee visitor at the Lawrence Burke residence Tuesday and Friday mornings. Lawrence and Doris went to Rapid City Saturday where they had lunch with Melissa Burke. And grandson Skyler Burke was a visitor to the Burke residence on Sunday.
Peggy Gravatt picked up Maria Trask at the Elm Springs School on Thursday, and the two went to Spearfish, where they went shopping and stayed overnight before Maria’s Friday performances in the Special Olympics. Larry and Peggy Gravatt went to Rapid City Saturday to watch Madi Fuegen skating. And Matt and John Paul Trask visited the Larry Gravatt residence briefly Sunday morning.
The Andy Linns left Saturday for Pierre, where Ben competed in the state 4-H shooting competition, doing well in both BB’s and pellets. The Linns found time to attend the Ft. Pierre horse races as well.
John and Jean Linn hosted the Brett Wilseys and the Morris and Andy Linns Friday night for Laura Wilseys birthday party.
Pat Trask was a coffee visitor at the Morris Linn residence Monday. Tuesday Shirrise visited the Jack and Cheryl Simons residence near Enning. Clyde Arneson was a supper guest at the Morris Linns Thursday night, while Morris went to New Underwood. On Saturday, Sandy Van Vleck visited Shirrise while Morris and Kassandra visited Al and Bridget’s Castle. Sunday was Kassandra’s nine year picture day, and Shirrise rounded up a whole slew of relatives, including Grandma’s Cheryl, Margaret, and Arlene, and Aunt Deb and Amber Brookman. After pictures, they all went out to eat and shop. Margaret and Jack Simons and Matt Trask were supper guests at the Morris Linns Sunday night.
Cary and Pam Tines and JW and Dara Wrachford joined other motorcycle enthusiasts for a weekend motorcycle tour which included an overnight stay in Deadwood.
Matt Trask went on a tour of several Meade County schools on Tuesday. After supper at the Paul Bruch residence, he attended the Meade 46-1 school board meeting in Sturgis Tuesday night. And then on Friday, Matt, reasoning that if he is going to write songs he should get used to singing them, performed at the Sturgis Center for the Arts Songwriters Invitational. In true Matt Trask fashion, he arrived at the event without any of his seven guitars and had to borrow one to play the show. He played three silly songs and was rather well received. But when he left, again in true Matt Trask fashion, he was so absorbed in thoughts of broken dreams and fancy chord progressions that he ran a stop sign right in front of an observant highway patrolman.
RoseMary and Matt Trask went to the Elm Springs School Wednesday for an impromptu farewell party for Ms. Carolyn Mauer, who was instrumental in Matt and Maria’s education. She is resigning at the end of this year. On Friday, RoseMary attended the Special Olympics in Spearfish to watch Maria, and John Paul Trask, on his way home from Gilette, stopped to watch Maria for a while too. On Sunday, the “Upland Trasks” went to church in Wall, where young Joseph Bartholomew, along with several other fine young Catholics, was confirmed. After the confirmation service, there was a potluck at the Wall Community Center and then the “Upland Trasks” drifted in twos and threes to the “Big Green Trask House,” where several of them took a Sunday nap before they all went home. Visitors at the “Upland Trask” residence Sunday afternoon were Patrick Wilson and David and Jan Bertolotto of Sturgis.
Mark and Mick Trask left Friday for Oklahoma City, OK to attend the National Range Judging Competition.
Jim and Caroline Wilsey went to Rapid City Tuesday, where they visited Thelma Wilsey and Gale and Cliff Keyser. .Jim’s college buddies Bob Kelly and Les Larson of Rapid City visited the Jime Wilsey residence Wednesday. Jim and Caroline attended an auction in Belle Fourche on Saturday.
Janet and Kelli Wilson attended a wedding shower for Mandy Wilson in Huron Saturday.
And Mary Kay Wilson returned Wednesday from her trip to Brookings and Minnesota, where along with her parents, she visited the Josh Wolbergs and Beth Wilson and attended a Minnesota Twins game. She left Saturday on the South Dakota Tourism Department tour.
Dave Miller of Lingle, WY was a visitor at the Melvin Anderson residence Wednesday. Melvin and Dorothy met granddaughter Jessica Anderson of Conifer, CO in Rapid City for lunch Friday, where they got to see her new horse, although he probably did not get to have lunch with them. From there, the Andersons drove to Baker, MT to watch Kaycee and Ben Kraft compete in a high school rodeo. They returned Sunday.
The Elm Springs Church will hold services on the 6th and 20th of May at two pm, and those will be the last until September.
The kind citizens hope you’re enjoying the sunshine.
