The Elm Springs News

January 7, 2007

For the third time, the kind citizens of Elm Springs have forgone the reporting of their usual social news for the following;

An Ode to 2006

2006, what can we say

Lack of water, lack of hay,

amid the daily drudgery

one had to be awake to see

Elm Springs change in subtle ways

Hauling water, fighting fire

of these awful tasks we tire.

If you have a vacancy

in your Arctic company,

building igloos- we’re for hire!

Wasta turned a century

Her people all proclaimed that she

deserved a splendid celebration

Independence Day was the occasion

Elm Springs heartily agreed

Alexander tied the knot

with Ms. Madrid, and now he’s got

a dog, a house, a Cadillac; oh, and a wife!

We’ve not forgot

And since the wedding wasn’t here

the “Upland Trasks” bought lots of beer;

a giant canvas dancing hall,

and threw the biggest, baddest ball

that poor Elm Springs has seen in years

But it’s hard to live a life of ease

at one hundred ten degrees

fighting for your very breath,

trying not to heat to death

and hoping that it soon will freeze

Deciding that they couldn’t stay,

two whole houses moved away.

The Fields’ have a new abode;

while Brady’s trotted down the road

to Quinn, and on Election Day!

Remember that you’re welcome here

on your way by throughout the year

We’ve still got our coffeepots;

if you need stories, we’ve got lots

and we’ve got cookies, don’t you fear!

The kind citizens would like to extend their condolences to the Schell family, who lost most of their house in a fire.
