The Elm Springs News

March 26, 2006

Elm Springs had a whole week of winter weather, which was actively enjoyed by many, while others were simply thankful for the moisture. The melting snow made getting around somewhat more difficult, but no one was heard complaining about that.

Congratulations to Melvin Anderson, whose kind-citizenicity will garner him Good Neighbor recognition at the banquet this year.

After last weeks two-day hiatus from school, the Elm Springs schoolchildren were given two more in the form of snow days, bringing the number of school-free days, with the inclusion of the weekend, to six.

The Elm Springs Jolly Ranchers 4-H Club met at the Elm Springs School Thursday, with Janet Wilson as host.

Dorothy Anderson, Jean Linn and Caroline Wilsey went to Wasta for their quilt meeting Friday, eating at the Dixie Diner.

And several of the Catholic kind citizens attended the St. John’s parish carnival in New Underwood Saturday night.

The Wall High School Prom was held on Saturday, and several good looking young kind citizens got duded up and attended. These would include John Paul and Joseph Trask, Baxter Anders, Pam Wilson and Tyler Wulf.

Marvin and Carolyn and Rod and Kelly Anders all went to view the Grand March at the Wall Prom Saturday night. On Sunday, Marvin and Carolyn went to the Equine Center at the Central States Fairgrounds to watch horse events.

Lawrence and Doris Burke had lunch with Melissa Burke at the Olive Garden in Rapid City Friday. And on Sunday, Clyde Arneson visited the Burke residence, where he helped unload the newly repaired washing machine and had a cup of coffee.

Matt Trask and his guitar visited the Ryan Elshere residence Tuesday night, where the guitar sang and Matt ate. Ryan Elshere and the West brothers of Phillip competed in a rodeo in Fargo, ND, and Ryan competed at the Marvin Garrett Invitational at the Seven Downs Arena in Spearfish over the weekend.

Kellie Linn left Thursday for a Quantum Energetics conference in Minneapolis, MN, returning Sunday night. Matt Trask and his guitar were Sunday evening visitors at the Andy Linn residence, where they executed pretty much the same scam that they had at the Ryan Elshere residence. Matt’s guitar is starting to feel rather used. Jean Linn was a visitor at the Andy Linn residence Sunday night.

John and Jean Linn had supper at the Charlie and Carol Linn residence in Rapid City before going to the Rapid City Civic Center to watch Laura Wilsey and her viola perform in the String Rehearsal.

As a follow-up to last week’s posting, young Jace O’Rourke has now lost his first tooth. And young Tucker O’Rourke was an overnight guest at the Bud Pauley residence Thursday night.

The Pauley children returned Tuesday from their six-day stay with Papa Rex Burghduff in Camp Crook. Mayzee accompanied Bud to Isabel on Thursday, where they were guests of Clint Rech.

Young David Scott of New Underwood was a guest at the Cary Tines residence Saturday and Saturday night.

There were lots of interesting things that happened at the “Upland Trask” residence during the week, but the biggest news happened in Alexandria, where young Becky Trask, with RoseMary, Nick, Julie, Austin, the Three Little Girls and a host of other relatives and friends in attendance, underwent her Clothing Ceremony, which can be likened to an engagement, and in which she became a novitiate of the Order of Mt. Carmel. Rebecca Joan Trask is now known as Sr. Magdalena of Jesus Crucified, although she can simply be called Sr. Magdalena in everyday conversation.

In addition to all of his twanging and eating, Matt Trask attended the Wasta Centennial meeting on Sunday, afterwards visiting the Terry Schell residence and the way-cool Dixie Diner, which Matt gives twenty stars out of five.

Bruce and Brandon Wilsey of Sioux Falls were visitors at the Jim Wilsey residence over the weekend.

Janet and Kelli Wilson on Saturday attended the baby shower for James Russell Nachtigall, the St. John’s Parish carnival, and the Wall Grand March. What a day!

Philip and Mary Kay Wilson also attended the Wall Grand March to watch young Pam, who earlier that day had returned from her trip to Washington, DC. What a day!

Dorothy Anderson attended the baby shower for James Russell Nachtigall on Saturday.

All are cordially invited to attend Gary Smith’s senior violin recital, with accompaniment by his teacher, Ms. Kristy Frederich, at the Elm Springs Church this coming Sunday, April 2nd. The recital will be right after the church service, or approximately 3:15 pm, in case you do not wish to attend the service (shame on you!).

The kind citizens hope you are having fun in the mud.
