The Elm Springs News

March 19, 2007

The community of Elm Springs was sporting a thin coat of green by Saturday, which happened to be St. Patricks Day.

The Elm Springs schoolchildren got Thursday and Friday off for spring break this week.

The Quilting Ladies of Elm Springs, Jean Linn, Dorothy Anderson, Sandy Fields, and Caroline Wilsey, went to Wasta on Thursday to do their thing.

Several of the kind citizens attended the Rod Renner farm auction north of Wall on Sunday.

Marvin and Carolyn Anders attended the Wall FFA People Auction in Wall Monday, where they purchased a day’s labor from kind young citizen Kelli Wilson.

Ryan and Chrissy Elshere hosted several people for a St. Patricks Day shindig at their place Saturday evening.

The Sam Johnstons, accompanied by Emily Linn, went to Deadwood Saturday where they watched Calder and Carson, playing for the Wall 8th and 6th grade teams respectively, compete in the Northern Hills Basketball Tournament.

Young Jacob Linn celebrated his birthday Sunday in the company of John, Jean, Jim, Morris, Shirrise and Kassandra Linn and the Johnston and Elshere children.

Shirrise Linn and Cheryl Simons visited Elaine Simons and the kids in Wall Monday before they left for Rochester, MN. While Shirrise was gone, Morris and Kassandra had supper at Clyde Arnesons on Thursday and spent Friday and Friday night at the Gene and Marsha Pluth residence in Rapid City. Shirrise and Cheryl returned to Elm Springs Saturday, after visiting Elaine and the kids in Wall again. The Morris Linns visited the Cary Tines residence Sunday morning. Kassandra went to church with John and Jean Linn in the afternoon.

Those who wish to stay informed on Cheryl Simons or want to send her a note can visit www.caringbridge.org/visit/cherylsimons. She intends to update the site weekly.

Cary and Pam Tines hosted the Morris Linns, the JW Wrachfords, Coby Tines and Samantha Scott for a St. Patricks Day party Saturday night.

Matt Trask was a supper guest at the Castle Monday evening. Al and Bridget Trask attended a party for Mary Beth Borstadt, put on by her uncle, Fr. Michael Mulloy, in Rapid City Saturday night. The recently graduated Ms. Borstadt has accepted a pharmacy job in Rapid City. Sunday night Al and Bridget, accompanied by Gemma Trask and Darlene and Tyler Wulf, attended bible study in New Underwood.

Shelia and Tomilyn Trask returned to South Dakota from Hawaii on Friday, the same day as Mick had knee surgery in Rapid City. Saturday, the “Elk Creek Trasks” had a birthday supper for Shelia, with Philip, Mary Kay and Kenny Wilson and the Nichols Caspers in attendance.

The “Upland Trasks” meanwhile, went quite crazy. Julie Trask was home all week on spring break. Kelly Yantes of Rapid City and Jessica Peccaroni of Minnesota visited Wednesday, on spring break from college in Riverton WY. On Saturday, RoseMary and Gemma went to Rapid City where Gemma competed in the Journal Spelling Bee. Gemma successfully made it to the oral competition, but in the first round, her nerves got the better of her and she began the spelling of “harpsichord” with “hr” and was eliminated. Meanwhile, back at the Great Irish Funny Farm, the doors began to feel the strain as Ray Olsen, Philip, Mary Kay and Kenny Wilson, Holly Sukup and Ann Ireland of Nebraska arrived and Nick left to spend the evening in Rapid City in the company of Patrick Wilson and Juan Luna and Pat left on business. Holly and Ann stayed Saturday night and went horseback riding with Julie on Sunday before all three had to leave for their respective colleges.

Matt Trask went to Rapid City Sunday to attend the first birthday party of Koyer Wade Kelly, son of Matt and Amanda Kelly of Rapid City. The birthday pool party was a success at the Day’s Inn in Rapid City, and young Mr. Kelly made quite a haul off of his doting family. At church, Matt joined up with Patrick Wilson and brother Nick, who had spent the night, and so the three went to eat supper at Sanfords.

Jim and Caroline Wilsey went to Sturgis on business both Monday and Friday. Apparently they had a lot of business.

Kenny, Janet and Kelli Wilson attended a memorial service for Eric Eisenbraun of Texas on Friday at the Lutheran Church in Wall. On Saturday, Janet and Kelli went to Rapid City to help Mandy with wedding preparations.

Keith Bowman of Lander WY visited the Philip Wilson residence Wednesday. On Sunday, Philip and Mary Kay visited the Kenny Wilson residence on minor business and ended up staying for supper since it was on the table.

There will be a blood drive at the New Underwood Community Church Wedensday March 28 from 8:30 to 11 am and again from 12 to 4:30 pm. For more information call Larry Graham at 754-6421.

Connie Mickelson of Enning has asked that the following be printed in the ESN, and we are happy to oblige:

My thanks go out to all those who have made this difficult time, with my father’s serious illness, a lot easier. Not being a local, only living here nearly 27 years, I have been overwhelmed with the support received by all of you. Please let me thank you for prayers, financial support, a needed hug, smile, and a pat on the back. What a wonderful, caring group of folks.

The kind citizens think that “nearly 27 years” oughtta make you a local anywhere.
