The Elm Springs News
March 11, 2007
Here in Elm Springs, we have had several signs that spring is upon us. In addition to a week of beautiful weather and Saturday night’s time change, the Elm Springs People Who Play Cards met for the final time at the Morris and Shirrise Linn residence Wednesday. Andy Linn won for the night; winners for the year were Lynn Fields, 1st‘; Marvin Anders, 2nd; Carolyn Anders, 3rd; and Clyde Arneson, 4th.
The Smithville Township had a breakfast meeting at the Melvin and Dorothy Anderson residence Tuesday morning, and the Elm Springs Township met at the John and Jean Linn residence Wednesday night.
And the Elm Springs Ranchers 4-H Club met at the Elm Springs School Thursday afternoon. The meeting was hosted by the Bud Pauleys. My, there were a lot of meetings in Elm Springs this week!
Baxter and Dunbar Anders went to Spearfish Saturday to watch the Bennett Co. girls basketball team compete in the State ‘A’ tournament.
Lawrence and Doris Burke went to Rapid City Tuesday to “see the tax man.” Afterwards they picked up Melissa Burke and ate at the new Texas State Line Barbeque in Piedmont. Clyde Arneson visited the Burkes a couple of days, but no one can remember which ones.
Peggy Gravatt and Teddy the Pomeranian Poodle went to Rapid City Monday to run errands and visit Jack Gravatt. On Tuesday, Larry, unaccompanied by a dog, went to Rapid where he took Jack out to eat before driving him to an appointment at the VA Hospital.
Carlee and Savana Johnston were overnight guests at the Bud Pauley residence Saturday night. Rod, Kelly, Baxter and young Jonni Jo Anders were evening visitors at the Sam Johnston residence Sunday.
In addition to gymnastics on Tuesday, some of the Andy Linn children also kept appointments in Rapid City. Because of meetings and cards, Matt Trask did not visit the Andy Linn residence for guitar/banjo/eating lessons until Friday.
John and Jean Linn attended the Lincoln Day Dinner in Sturgis Saturday night. It should be noted that the Jim Wilseys and the Melvin Andersons attended this function as well.
Clyde Arneson was a Monday morning coffee visitor at the Morris Linn residence. Sandy and David Van Vleck were overnight guests of the Morris Linns Thursday. Morris and Kassandra went to Wall Friday for piano lessons, before stopping to visit Sanden and Elaine Simons. Clyde Arneson and Jean Linn were coffee visitors Friday. JW and Dara Wrachford visited the Morris Linn residence Sunday night so the Linns could help JW celebrate his birthday with a cake.
Bunny Pauley and the girls went to Rapid City Tuesday evening where they watched the New Underwood boys basketball team battle the White River boys basketball team at the Civic Center. On Wednesday, the Pauleys visited Clyde Arneson to get grain, coffee, pop and cookies. Bunny Pauley visited the Jim Wilseys Friday.
Visitors at the Cary Tines residence for the week were Clyde Arneson, Heath Freeman, Sean Troxel, Nick Trask, John Tines, Sara McKinstry, Wyatt Volmer, and Tracy Kluck. Cary Tines also had a very important bit of news, but he forgot what it was.
Shelia and Tomilyn Trask left Friday for Hawaii. While they were gone, the “Elk Creek Trask” men found time to visit the Kenny Wilson residence Sunday evening.
And the “Upland Trasks” had an old fashioned humdinger of a week. Perhaps most notable is the fact that on Friday morning, the tarp roof was put in place over the new “Upland Trask” hoop building. The roof, put on by Clair and Eric Rowett of Sturgis, is 40′ long by 80′ feet wide and rises some 30′ into the air, gleaming white with blue ends. With a good pair of binoculars, the Rowetts might be able to see it from their place. Wednesday was Pat’s birthday, which was celebrated in the company of Ray Olsen. Other visitors during the week were Tom Bruch, Cary Tines, Tyler Wilson and family, Patrick Wilson, Sean Troxel, and Clay Tines. Also John Paul and Julie returned to the “Upland Trask” residence Friday, John Paul from a week off at the mine in Gilette, WY and Julie from spring break in Ft. Collins, CO.
Nick Trask and Tom Bruch visited the Matt Trask residence Tuesday night to help him fix his toilet. Of course they did all the work. John Paul and Joe Trask, Sean Troxel, Clay Tines and Tracy Kluck were all visitors at the Matt Trask residence Saturday night. And Matt Trask had another of his wonderful days Sunday, joining Fr. Leo Hausmann, Kenny Wilson, and Delayna Jensen at the Darlene Wulf residence for Kayla Wulf’s birthday party. After dinner he laid down on one of the Wulf’s couches for a Sunday nap. When he awoke, he had just enough time to get to the Morris Linns for supper. What a life!
Pam Wilson and four friends visited the Philip Wilson residence for a few days during spring break.
Melvin and Dorothy Anderson met Duane and Carla Jobgen at Perkins in Rapid City Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday morning Heather Karp visited on her way back to Vermillion, and niece Cheryl Durpris of Pierre visited Wednesday afternoon.
The kind citizens hope you weren’t late to anything because of the time change.
