The Elm Springs News

February 5, 2008

The weather was mostly spring-like here in Elm Springs, as we completed the first month of 2008.

Several of the kind citizens attended the funeral, burial, or reception for Jack Tines Tuesday, held in New Underwood, Rapid City, and New Underwood, respectively.

And several of the kind citizens attended the Tom Didier Old Timers Breakfast at the Alex Johnson Hotel in Rapid City Friday morning.

The rest of the week’s social news took place either at the Black Hills Stock Show or in front of a television set Sunday afternoon, although there were a few other happenings.

The Clyde Arnesons attended the Black Hills Stock Show rodeo Sunday afternoon before eating dinner in New Underwood. Clyde will appear several more times in this week’s ESN, but that is the only item he could remember.

In fact, he appears right here, as a supper guest at the Lonnie Arneson residence Tuesday night. Lonnie and Teri Ramsdell attended the Stock Show and rodeo Thursday.

Lawrence and Doris Burke went to Sturgis Tuesday on business. Clyde Arneson was a coffee visitor at the Lawrence Burke residence Thursday morning, and Lawrence visited the Tucky Tift residence Sunday morning.

Matt Trask was a breakfast guest at the Ryan and Chrissy Elshere residence Friday morning. The Ryan Elsheres attended the Stock Show rodeo Friday afternoon, where Ryan rode a saddlebronc.

Larry Gravatt went to Rapid City Friday to take Jack to the rodeo. On Saturday, Larry and Peggy took Brad Bookbinder and Chase Gravatt to the rodeo, and then Brad took them all to supper.

Sam and Cary Johnston went to Union Center Tuesday to watch Carson playing with the Enning Eagles. On Thursday, Grandma Norma Pellegrin had to go to Union Center to watch Carson and the Enning Eagles, while Sam and Cary, accompanied by Matt Trask, Dan and Donna Curr of Scenic, Scott and Melody Eisenbraun of Wall and several others, went to watch the Wall Eagles play in several towns across western South Dakota. Sam and Cary’s vehicle stopped in White River, where they watched the Wall high school boys take on the White River Tigers. The Sam Johnstons attended the Stock Show on Saturday.

John and Jean Linn hosted a Super Bowl party at the “Big House” on Sunday, with the Morris Linns, Andy Linn and kids, Gene, Marsha, Rory and Chelle Pluth of Rapid City, Roger Shull of Creighton and Matt Trask in attendance.

Shirrise Linn attended a stamp party at the Don and Mary Poss residence near Philip Monday. Shirrise and Cheryl Simons went to Rapid City Wednesday, while Morris visited at the “Upland Trask” residence. Shirrise and Kassandra went to Rapid City on Thursday to keep orthodontist appointments before visiting Brett and Charlotte Wilsey and Grandma Arlene Talley. They took Morris along when they went back to Rapid City on Friday to attend the Stock Show, spening Friday night at the Gene and Marsha Pluth residence. Sunday, the Morris Linns hosted all the Pluths and Roger Shull before the Super Bowl party, and Roger Shull again afterwards.

Bunny Bail and the girls attended the Stock Show on Friday.

Jim and Myrna Smith went to Aberdeen Saturday to watch Melanie Smith and the Wall High School one-act team perform at the state competition, where they received a superior rating.

John Tines, Amanda Humphrey and Lainee Mae visited the Cary Tines residence Thursday evening, and Lainee Mae stayed all night. Matt Trask was a Sunday morning coffee visitor, and Coby Tines and Samantha Scott visited on Sunday as well.

The Al Trasks went to Rapid City Thursday for appointments. They attended the Stock Show on Saturday, and Sunday they hosted RoseMary, Hopalong Crutchity, Maria and Celine for the Super Bowl.

Pat, Nick and Julie Trask attended the South Dakota Stockgrowers presentation of GB Oliver at the Civic Center Monday night in Rapid City. On Tuesday, Pat, Nick, Steph, Julie, Austin, Maria and Celine attended the Ranch Rodeo at the Stock Show. Several of the above were late arriving because Gemma suffered a sprained ankle back at her basketball practice in Wall and had to be taken to the emergency room. As a result, there were “Upland Trasks” sprinkled all over the stadium. Afterwards, the “Upland Trasks” had supper with Dan and Alane Ingalls of Wyoming and Gary and Amy Cammack of Union Center. Steph Trask spent Wednesday at the Stock Show, while John Christianson of Wessington Springs visited the “Upland Trask” residence. Joseph Trask competed in the wrestling tournament at Lead on Saturday. Pat, Nick, Steph, Julie and Joe had supper in Rapid City Saturday night with Jim, Barb and Britney Beastrom of Pierre and Hugh Ingalls of Faith. Sunday night, pretty much the same crew had supper again in Rapid City, with Rick Lloyd of Chamberlain.

Matt Trask spent Tuesday, Friday and Saturday evening at the Stock Show. He also had supper at the Larry and Faye Volmer residence Saturday evening.

Philip and Mary Kay Wilson, accompanied by Patrick, attended the Stock Show on Friday. Philip was a dinner guest at the “Upland Trask” residence Saturday.

The Kenny Wilsons also attended the Stock Show Friday.

And Melvin and Dorothy Anderson attended the Stock Show rodeo Saturday afternoon.

The Wicksville Workers Community Club (who knew?) is hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake supper at the Wicksville Church on Saturday, February 16th from 5 to 7 pm. Of course if MattTrask shows up it will be an all-you-can-eat-before-Matt-Trask-shows-up pancake supper.

The kind citizens would like to extend their sympathies to Jesse Bail, who had a really bad day at the rodeo Friday.
