The Elm Springs News

February 19, 2007

Just the weather in Elm Springs this past week was enough to make a full column. It continued to snow until there were at least six inches on the level all over Elm Springs, turning bitterly cold in the process. And then it rained Thursday night, enough to stick the snow to the ground through Friday’s wind. Now it is wet and muddy, but as Doris Burke says, “we better not complain about that.”

Wednesday, for what it’s worth, was Valentine’s Day.

The People Who Play Cards met at the Sam and Cary Johnston residence Wednesday night for their February court whist game, hosted by the Johnstons and Norma Pellegrin. Lynn Fields got 1st for the night, Larry Gravatt got 2nd, and Marvin Anders 3rd.

Several of the kind citizens attended the Ag Appreciation Banquet and dance in Wall on Friday, to feel the love.

Andy, Kellie and Ben Linn left Thursday for Denver, CO to watch nephew Mike Ross place 2nd in the 171 lb. Weight class at the Colorado State High School wrestling tournament. They returned Sunday.

While they were gone, Emily and Jacob Linn stayed at the “Big House,” except for Friday night. John and Jean also hosted Charlotte Wilsey and the girls over the weekend, and Kassandra Linn Sunday afternoon.

On Thursday, Shirrise and Kassandra again visited the Johnstons. Clyde Arneson was a coffee visitor Friday morning at the Morris Linn residence. Randy and Kenny Holst visited Saturday. The Pauleys visited the Melvin and Dorothy Anderson residence Thursday to deliver the Anderson’s Valentine gift and celebrate young Mayzee’s Valentine’s Day birthday a day late with homemade ice cream. And the Pauleys had “coffee and pop” Saturday at the Clyde Arneson residence.

Al and Bridget Trask treated Fr. Leo Hausmann and Matt Trask to supper at the Cactus Cafe in Wall Saturday night.

The “Elk Creek Trasks” attended the Regional Wrestling Tournament held in Philip on Saturday, at which Mark and Mick both placed 2nd in their respective weight divisions, earning a spot at the state wrestling tournament.

Nick Trask left Monday for Washington, DC on the R-CALF fly in. While there, he visited cousin Mike Bucher. He returned Thursday. John Paul came out to the “Upland Trask” place from Gillette to help while he was gone. Ray Olson was a visitor at the “Upland Trask” residence Tuesday. Also on Saturday, the “Upland Trasks” made a phone call to the Carmelite Convent in Alexandria to wish Sr. Magdalena a happy 21st birthday.
