The Elm Springs News

November 11, 2007

It finally cooled off in Elm Springs on Sunday, with a high only in the 50’s. Saturday’s high of 71 degrees was glorious, if somewhat disturbing.

Several of the kind citizens attended the Wall Lady Eagles heartbreaking loss to the Philip Lady Scotties at the Regional Volleyball Tournament in Wall on Tuesday. Some of the kind citizens were sitting on the un-heartbroken side.

The Combined Rebels played the Enning Eagles in the last basketball game of the season Thursday night in Union Center. The Rebels, we think, won all three games.

Peggy Gravatt hosted a meeting of the WTL Club on Thursday. Members in attendance besides Peggy were Dorothy Anderson, Sandy Fields, Jean, Kellie and Shirrise Linn, Linda Tifft, Caroline Wilsey and RoseMary Trask, although the last one appeared only briefly.

Saturday was the prairie deer season opener, and Elm Springs was filled with orange garbed men and women looking for a trophy. Of course, the “Elk Creek Trask” residence came to life with the Dakota Trophy hunt underway.

None of the Anders were home to report what they did this week, so we begin with Clyde Arneson, who went to “town” Thursday on business. “Town” in this case was Sturgis, Rapid City, and New Underwood, in that order.

Richard Burnham of Rapid City and Jessie Burnham of San Jose, CA were supper guests at the Lawrence Burke residence Wednesday night. On Thursday, Lawrence and Doris Burke, Melissa Burke and Jessie Burnham visited Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. Clyde Arneson was a coffee visitor Friday morning and Jake Hall of Wasta was a coffee visitor Saturday morning.

Saturday Jerry and Chase Gravatt and Larry Donovan of Rapid City and Dirk Boomsma of Box Elder spent the day at the Gravatt residence. RoseMary, Maria and Celine Trask visited the Larry Gravatt residence Saturday afternoon.

Matt Trask was a supper guest at the Andy Linn residence Tuesday night, and a coffee visitor there Saturday evening. Yes, it has gotten to be that time of year. Matt accompanied Andy Linn and the kids to the “Elk Creek Trask” residence Saturday night.

Shirrise Linn and Cheryl Simons spent Monday in Rapid City. Shirrise and Kassandra went to Wall Wednesday afternoon. Sandy and David Van Vleck of Wall accompanied the Morris Linns to the basketball game in Union Center, and then spent the night at the Morris Linn residence. Matt Trask also visited Thursday evening. Amber Brookman of Rapid City arrived at the Morris Linn residence Saturday afternoon to spend the remainder of the weekend scrapbooking with Shirrise. Matt Trask visited the Morris Linns Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Max and Sarah Miller left the Cary Tines residence Monday morning for Douglas, WY. Clyde Arneson and Bunny Bail were Monday morning coffee visitors at the Cary Tines residence. John and Wilma Moore were coffee visitors Saturday morning. Lainee Mae spent Saturday at the Cary Tines residence, and John Tines and Amanda Humphrey came out to pick her up Saturday night.

Steph Trask spent Thursday and Saturday at the National Women In Farm Economics (WIFE, haha) convention in Rapid City. The “Upland Trasks” spent the weekend entertaining deer hunters. Mike and Shonda Morrison of almost Wyoming and Stanley McNabb of Wasta visited the “Upland Trask” residence Sunday afternoon.

Jim and Caroline Wilsey hosted hunters Bruce Wilsey of Sioux Falls, Wayne Miller and Dan and Ryan Konz of Brandon, and bird dogger Brandon Wilsey of Sioux Falls over the weekend.

Kenny, Janet and Kellie Wilson attended the baptismal reception of baby Wyatt Nellen, son of Aaron and Angie Nellen, in Hot Springs Sunday.

Melvin and Dorothy Anderson had a whirlwind weekend, beginning Thursday afternoon, when they travelled to Parade to visit Johnny, Sharon and Chuck Holloway. They visited Mona, Larry and Ed Anderson in Eagle Butte on Friday. Saturday morning they had breakfast at the Dick and Mary Jane Anderson residence in Whitehorse before going on to Timber Lake on business. They spent Saturday night in Wild Rose, ND before meeting Darcy Hanson and Leslie Deering in Crosby ND and attended Bill and Verona Vroman’s 60th wedding anniversary in Buffalo. They made it home just in time to answer the phone Sunday night.

The kind citizens hope they get caught up on their sleep.
