The Elm Springs News

February 5, 2007

It got terribly cold here in Elm Springs over the past week, which made winter chores more difficult.

Most people’s social activities revolved around either the Black Hills Stock Show or the rain soaked fumble-fest in Miami, Super Bowl XLI. The kind citizens watched in disgust as the rain piled up in Florida, while outside the cracks in the ground continue to get bigger.

The WTL club met Monday at the new Lynn and Sandy Fields residence. Members present, besides Sandy, were Jean, Kellie and Shirrise Linn, Dorothy Anderson, Caroline Wilsey, Peggy Gravatt, Linda Tifft, and RoseMary Trask.

Marvin and Carolyn Anders went to the Stock Show “a couple times,” says Carolyn. Marvin and Baxter Anders went to Mitchell Sunday on business.

Clyde Arneson “run up (to the Stock Show Rodeo) real fast and then come right back home” Thursday. He returned to the Stock Show Sunday and performed a more thorough inspection.

Lawrence and Doris Burke “went up to the Stock Show two or three times just like everybody else did.” The kind citizens are very quotable this week.

Ryan Elshere rode a saddlebronc at the Black Hills Stock Show, where his brother Mr. Average Man JJ did it again, and then the Brothers Elshere and Bryce Miller of Buffalo went to San Antonio, TX over the weekend to compete in a rodeo there.

Clyde Arneson was a dinner guest at the Larry and Peggy Gravatt residence Friday. Larry and Peggy took Madi and Steele Fuegen to the rodeo on Saturday.

The Sam Johnston’s went to Wall Saturday where Calder played in the Badlands Conference junior high basketball tournament for the Wall team, which won three games of three for the trophy.

The Andy Linn’s were guests at the Jamie and Karen Brunsch residence Saturday evening to help celebrate one of the Brunsch children’s birthdays. Young Emily Linn stayed overnight at the Brunsch residence and returned home the next day when the Brunsch’s visited the Linns to watch the Super Bowl.

John, Jean and Jim Linn attended a Super Bowl party at the Gene and Marsha Pluth residence in Rapid City Sunday. It may as well be noted here that Morris, Shirrise and Kassandra Linn and Matt Trask attended the same party.

Shirrise Linn visited the Jack Simons residence near Enning Tuesday afternoon. Wedensday, Roger Shull of Creighton was an overnight guest at the Morris Linn residence. Clyde Arneson was a supper guest Wednesday night. Thursday Cary Tines, Kody DeVries and the Jim and Jen Magee family of Glenrock, WY were dinner guests, and the Magees spent the night. Friday Shirrise and Jen and the girls went to Wall where Kassandra had a piano lesson before they visited Sanden and Elaine Simons and Sandy Van Vleck. The Morris Linns spent the weekend taking in the Stock Show in the company of the Magee’s

The Pauley’s went to the Stock Show “a lot of days,” according to young Mattee Ann. In particular, they were at the Sunday Rodeo watching when Jesse Bail rode a previously unridden bull to win the short go. Also on Sunday, Bud returned from the Anipro convention in Nashville, TN. And young Mayzee bet Bud and Cheryl Burghduff that the Indianapolis Colts would win the Super Bowl. When the Colts won, Mayzee won $15.

Kody DeVries was a guest of the Cary Tines’ Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Amanda Humphrey spent Friday night at the Tines residence, and Matt Trask was a coffee visitor Sunday morning. Throw in a visit each from Clyde Arneson and Morris Linn and that’s the Tines news.

Al and Bridget Trask joined Paul Jr. and Taryn Yantes of Rapid City at the Saturday night Stock Show rodeo. It was a first for both young Mrs. Trask and young Mrs. Yantes, who is from Burnsville, MN.

Pat and Nick Trask went to the Stock Show Monday night, and Pat, Nick, Gemma and Celine attended the Ranch Rodeo at the Stock Show Tuesday night. Brian Herr and friends Scott and Glen of Newton, WI visited the “Upland Trask” residence Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening while taking in the Stock Show. And Pat Trask was apparently the only kind citizen to attend the Oak Ridge Boys concert at the Civic Center in Rapid City Wednesday night, where he had a great time listening to Richard Durban sing “oombop-a-oombop-a,” you get the idea. Friday morning, the “Upland Trask” breakfast cafe was in full swing, with visits from John Madsen, Andy Linn, Dr. Arlen and Marvin of Rapid City, and a group of coyote hunters from Michigan.

Jim and Carolyn Wilsey went to Rapid City Tuesday to be with Jim’s sister-in-law Thelma Wilsey as she underwent back surgery. They returned Friday to visit Thelma, who is recovering nicely, and then attended the Stock Show rodeo. They attended the rodeo on Sunday as well.

Philip and Mary Kay Wilson went to Wall Tuesday to watch Kelli compete in a gymnastics tournament. Sunday, the Philip Wilsons hosted a Super Bowl Party with the Kenny Wilsons and the “Elk Creek Trasks” in attendance.

The kind citizens say “oombop-a-oombop-a-oombop-a mow mow.”
