The Elm Springs News
October 16, 2005
Here in Elm Springs, along the creek and riverbottoms, one can now really notice the fall colors appearing on the deciduous trees. That, and the pleasant fall weather, make being in the outdoors a real joy.
Many of the kind citizens attended the funeral of Rose Anderson in Eagle Butte on Monday. Rose was the mother of Melvin Anderson. And many of the kind citizens attended the funeral of Don Larsen in New Underwood on Tuesday.
As of this writing, many of the kind citizens of Elm Springs were not home. It is probably safe to assume that many of the families not mentioned in this weeks ESN enjoyed a beautiful Sunday evening elsewhere.
The Elm Springs Rebels played basketball against the Opal Braves on Thursday.
Marvin and Carolyn Anders entertained friends from Estes Park CO and Wheatland WY on Saturday afternoon.
In addition to Clydes family, young Chase’s girlfriend spent the weekend at the Clyde Arneson residence.
Jean Linn was a visitor at the Lynn and Sandy Fields residence Thursday, where she and Sandy helped each other with craft projects.
Misti and Statler Walker of Union Center were visitors at the Morris Linn residence Monday. Morris visited the “Brustol AFB” Monday evening. Shirrise went to Rapid City Wednesday, where she had lunch with Angie Holso and stamp meeting with Peg Ireland, Sharon Faiman, and Nicole Konotopka before visiting her grandma Arlene. Clyde Arneson and Kody Devries were Thursday visitors at the Morris Linns. Friday Carter Elshere was an after school visitor. The Morris Linns were accompanied by Sam, Carson and Savanna Johnston and Ryan and Chrissy Elshere to the football game in Wall. On Sunday the Morris Linns visited Charlie and Carol Linn at the “Big House” and Matt Trask and Clyde Arneson were evening visitors.
The Andy Linns entertained several running “Upland Trasks” Sunday morning.
Charlie and Carol Linn of Rapid City visited the “Big House” Sunday afternoon.
Tom and Shelia Trask attended the Philip/New Underwood football game in New Underwood Friday night.
Some of the “Upland Trasks” have been engaged in cutting alfalfa seed near Oelrichs, and they have been staying at the “Upland Trask” residence in Chadron, NE during that time. RoseMary and Maria Trask went to the Wall/Faith football game in Wall Friday night. Steph was home from Nebraska over the weekend, while Al spent the weekend in Columbus, OH.
The “Upland Trask” ranch hosted Boy Scout troop #7 from Rapid City over the weekend. Under the leadership of Brett Hanson, Les Heard, Randy Rapp, and Jerry Kocher, the five scouts took a two day trailride on the ranch, camping near the C.K. Howard buildings on the Cheyenne riverbottom. Clyde Arneson graciously loaned a horse to the endeavor, to round out the number of well broke horses available to the scouts. The Scouts were otherwise assisted by Steph Trask and Patrick Wilson, and visited at their campsite Saturday night by Austin Trask and Ben Linn. And while most of the community was engaged in one task or another, Matt Trask could think of nothing better to do than visit the Boy Scout camp for breakfast lunch and dinner, although in the spirit of things he did ride to the camp on horseback.
In addition to attending Rose’s funeral, Melvin Anderson kept a dentist appointment on Wednesday, while Dorothy kept a doctor appointment and had luch with Leslie Anderson on Thursday. On Saturday, Melvin and Dorothy together attended the Centennial fundraiser soup supper in Wasta.
Thank the Lord for announcements, or their would hardly be an ESN this week.
First of all, the Elm Springs Church will not have serv ices on October 30th, but instead will have services on November 6th, at their usual time of two o’clock pm.
And second, all are invited to the Elm Springs Halloween Festival at the Elm Springs Hall on Saturday, October 29th. With tours of the new Elm Springs Firehall beginning at three o’clock pm, a free-will Indian Taco supper starting at five, a costume contest, and a jack o’lantern competition, among other things, there is sure to be something for everyone at the Halloween Festival. Bring your wife, bring your pumpkin, bring your wife and your pumpkin, and we’ll see you there!
The kind citizens hope you notice the fall colors on the trees.
