Summer Geetar Class
June 21, 2008
I live a rather strange life.
In an effort to become a better guitar player myself, during the school year, I give guitar lessons to a few children in the area. I don’t consider myself qualified to give guitar lessons, but I can show a kid how to play a three-chord progression as well as anybody.
But I had never given guitar lessons in the summer until now. My friend Katie Sowers borrowed a guitar from her brother-in-law and asked me to give her a few lessons.
Katie lives near Rapid City, which is about 60 miles away. We finally decided to meet in the middle, since neither of us wanted to drive all the way. I suggested we meet at the Doppler Radar “soccer ball” north of New Underwood, since it’s an easily visible landmark.
So last night, me and Paula and two folding chairs met Katie and her borrowed baby Taylor at “The Soccer Ball” for her first lesson. Since she is an accomplished violinist, I am afraid she will be giving me lessons pretty soon. I showed her five or so chords, a few finger excercises, and then played almost the whole George Jones catalog in the gathering dark.
It was a lot of fun. If you and your geetar happen to be near “The Soccer Ball” next Friday evening, turn in. I’ll play “He Stopped Loving Her Today!”

“He Stopped Loving Her Today?” That’s such a gloomy song to play for such a fun time! Why that one? Why not that um….one you wouldn’t sing the lyrics to? lolol

My oldest will be hitting you up hard to teach him something, Hubba — hope that’s alright! He can teach you a little Nirvana or Black Sabbath, maybe … : )
