Public Enemies

Public Enemies

I actually went and saw a brand new movie!

Public Enemies

Year: 2009

Director: Micheal Mann

Starring: Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Marie Cotillard

Although this movie is as riddled with historical inaccuracies as the cars and buildings in it are riddled with bullets, it’s a good time.  I had to read up on the actual events to find the historical inaccuracies anyway, so who cares.

What it is is a movie about guys in fedoras unloading Tommy guns while standing on the running boards of classic cars with suicide doors, which is what I paid to see.  The dialogue is believable, the characters are dressed well and have plenty of ammunition, and the gunfights are well shot (no pun intended) without too much gore.

Johnny Depp was very good as bad guy John Dillinger, and indeed looks an awful lot like him.

Christian Bale, the master of accents, struck me as being the perfect man to cast as Augustus Mcrae in a prequel to Lonesome Dove, which sadly has already been done, starring David Arquette.

Also stars Stephen Lang, who played crusty bad guy Ike Clanton in the redneck classic Tombstone.  Took me twelve hours to figure that one out.

If you like decently smart shoot-em-ups, this one’s for you!

Rating: One and a half thumbs up!
