One Observation on the Bailout
Today the bailout, or “loan” as some are calling it, of/to the Big Three Automakers became official.
I am sure there are many other websites devoted to the current economic crisis or the economy in general, and if you are an economy buff, I encourage you to find a different website to study the subject.
But I have a question that has been nagging at me all day, and I would like to pose it here.
Remember this summer when gasoline was at an all-time high? The Big Three (or at least Two) made a spectacularly stupid offer of “fuel under 3 dollars for a year,” or something like that, with the purchase of a vehicle. The offer was outlandish gimmickery, of the sort found in an old time medicine show or a Dr. Seuss book. And I clearly remember thinking “someone is going to get really hosed.”
Looking back, it looks like the Big Three saw their own hosing coming. But I bet they made it so much worse with their marketing scheme.
The question is this- did they contract all that fuel during the price spike? If they did, they hosed themselves almost literally in gasoline.
And finally, purely for cheap Holiday laughs, I present my new slogans for the Big Three-
“Chevy- Like a Rock (That Takes All Your Money)”
“Dodge- Grab the Bailout by the Horns”
and “Built Ford Tough (Wah, Wah, Wah)”
Oh hardy harr harr.

I just keep thinking about all those Hemis — Hemi this, Hemi that. A new Charger; a new Challenger. “That thing got a Hemi, or a hole in the gas tank?” : )

I agree completely! I’ve long wondered whether these guys hedged against oil to prop up their SUV sales.
