The ESN; Beginning of Summer

Most of the kind citizens were apparently out of doors enjoying a beautiful country sunset and could not answer their telephones.

In their defense, the sunsets have become something to see. Aided by the 8.41 inches of moisture we received during the month of May, the sun now sets on an ocean of green, dotted with brimful dams. No one should be sitting by their telephone at a time like this.

The ESN; Still the Rain Kept Pourin’

The past seven years, the kind citizens have had to pretend to be happy after every quarter inch rainfall. With the rain we received Thursday, Friday and Saturday, we have now received more than eight inches of moisture for the month of May. Considering that the yearly average in this part of the country is twelve inches, we truly have something to be happy about. The dams are full, the grass is green, and the “Elk Creek Trasks” can’t cross Elk Creek.

The ESN Graduation Special

Like they always do this time of year, the temperature and the social calendar are starting to heat up here in Elm Springs.

Graduation season was in full swing over the weekend, and the kind citizens attended graduations and receptions in droves. Wall High School’s graduation was Saturday, where kind young citizens Baxter Anders and Joe Trask graduated, while young Clay Tines graduated from New Underwood on the same day. Sunday, young Mark Trask graduated from Philip High School. In addition, there were myriad parties and receptions to attend, including a reception at the Elm Springs Hall on Sunday to honor Baxter Anders, Clay Tines, and Joe Trask.

The ESN; Mother’s Day

Elm Springs received two more rainshowers during the week, with end of the week moisture totals at 1.73 inches, much to the relief and delight of the kind citizens.

All the moisture made travel difficult again, but the roads had dried out enough by Sunday that the kind mothers could be wined and dined somewhere for Mother’s Day.

The Marvin Anders’ and the Rod Anders’ attended rodeos in Wall on Saturday and New Underwood on Sunday.

The ESN; Good News/Bad News

In ways, it was a hell of a week in Elm Springs. The week began with a bang which woke the residents of the “Brustol AFB” in the Monday morning darkness. They hastily donned makeshift costumes to hurry outside and watch rather helplessly as their barn burned down, with several important pieces of equipment inside. The Elm Springs Fire Department couldn’t do much more than arrive on the scene. Thankfully, no men, women or beasts were harmed.

But something else happened later in the week which was much more happy. A real moisture system passed slowly over western South Dakota Thursday and Friday, leaving varying amounts Continue Reading
