A Long Road

Conversations

Last night I attended my buddy Tyler Dennis’ ordination to the priesthood.

The Catholic view of an ordination is essentially that the priest is marrying the Church, the Bride of Christ so to speak.  And Tyler (now Father Tyler) looked the part of the groom, beaming from ear to ear.

And what a long courtship it was.  This bride ain’t gonna marry just anybody.  Nine long years Tyler slaved away for last night.  There were times when he wasn’t sure he was going to make it.

I have enjoyed Tyler and then Deacon Tyler’s posts on the www.spseminarians.blogspot.com website.  Without fail they have been beautiful, thought provoking, and insightful.  The man can blend intellectualism, Catholic theology, and Baxter Black-like wit (not a combination you find often) in a single sentence.  I do hope that Father Tyler will be afforded the opportunity to keep writing on the web.

But this afternoon I am going to his second Mass as a priest.  I guess I’ll get to hear it from him.

Congratulations Father Tyler.  I hope your next road is as fulfilling as the last one was.
