The ESN; Close To Home
The kind citizens, still reeling from last week’s blizzard, didn’t have time for much social activity this week. Grandma Jean Linn summed it up nicely when she said that “we just pretty much kept the home fires burning.” Lonnie Arneson was the last person in Elm Springs to get electricity back, on Monday afternoon.
The People Who Play Cards met Wednesday night at the Sam and Cary Johnston residence for their monthly court whist game, with John Linn winning the high score for the night.
And several of the kind citizens, including the “Upland Trasks” and the “Elk Creek Trasks,” attended the Casey Tibbs Foundation Tribute Dinner in Ft. Pierre Saturday night, where the Mark, Milton and Zeta (White) Trask familes were recognized as “Ranch Family of the Year.” Mark Trask came back from Brookings to speak for the extended family.
Clyde Arneson went to Rapid City on business Tuesday.
Savannah Johnston spent Friday night with Tanielle Arneson at the Melvin Arneson residence near Enning.
Kellie Linn went to Sioux Falls on business over the weekend. While she was gone, the Jamie Brunsch family of Rapid City visited the Andy Linn residence on Saturday.
Kassandra Linn spent a few nights at the “Big House” helping Grandma Jean keep the home fires burning, and Emily and Jacob Linn spent Sunday afternoon.
Morris Linn went to Rapid City Wednesday for appointments and to have lunch with Gene Pluth. Shirrise and Kassandra went to Wall for piano lessons Wednesday afternoon. Kassandra spent Thursday afternoon at the Sam Johnston residence, and Shirrise spent Saturday night at the Lauren Langdeau residence near Presho.
John and Wilma Moore of Wyoming spent the week in Elm Springs at the Moore residence. On Monday, John and Wilma had coffee at the Cary Tines residence. John Tines and Lainee Mae visited the Tines residence Thursday evening, where John had supper before leaving Lainee Mae. And John and Wilma Moore and Clyde Arneson had coffee once again at the Tines residence Friday morning.
Matt Trask met Kathy Thompson of Whitewood at the Sturgis Center for the Arts Thursday afternoon. Saturday afternoon, Al and Little Pat Trask visited the Matt Trask residence.
Julie Trask of Ft. Collins CO caught a ride to Ft. Pierre with George and Sandy Deering of Loveland, CO Saturday. After the Tribute Dinner, she returned to the “Upland Trask” residence with the family. Pat and Julie Trask visited the Melvin and Dorothy Anderson residence Sunday afternoon, where Julie met up with George and Sandy for the return trip. Steph Trask of Rapid City left the “Upland Trask” residence Sundayafternoon for Brookings.
Nick, Joe and Austin Trask and Coby Tines spent Saturday night at the David Hansen residence near Ft. Pierre, while Matt spent Saturday night at the Darby Nutter residence, also near Ft. Pierre. They returned Sunday.
Jim and Caroline Wilsey entertained John and Deb Mariner of Rochester, MN and the Colin Mariners of Denver CO and Harlan and Carol Fawcett, who all arrived Friday, over the weekend. The Mariners left Sunday afternoon.
The kind citizens hope you have a wonderful week.

The ESN; Barack and a Blizzard
The largest news item in this weeks ESN is the blizzard which began Wednesday and ran through Friday morning. The blizzard, which is already being compared to the legendary Blizzard of ‘49, wiped out power in much of western South Dakota, drifted over fences, and killed some livestock. The kind citizens, who were without electricity for at least 36 hours, became reacquainted with their woodstoves and outhouses on Thursday. (more…)

Out From the Snowbank
I did my podcast Wednesday night, turned out the lights and went to bed. It had been a long cold rainy day moving cows.
When I got up Thursday morning, there were no lights and Old Man Winter was waiting for me outside.
My house has electric heat, so without electricity I had no heat. I had to go to HQ anyway, so I took off. It took me an hour to get there. I couldn’t see anything.
Like most of the rest of western South Dakot (more…)

Change We Can Believe In
I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist.
Welcome to my new and improved website! It is very unfortunate for you that my debut fell on Election Day, because presidential comparisons are bound to run rampant in this post.
In my defence, I haven’t left 14 messages on your answering machine in the last two days. And you haven’t received one flier from me in your mailbox.
Ok, back to my website; much like the aftermath of an election, there will be small adjustments in the coming days, weeks and months. We (that would be the crack team of Cowboy Nerds here at Hubba’s House) will be refining the site, adding a new door here, repainting a wall there, stuff like that. I’m terribly excited and you should be too! We welcome any comments or suggestions you may have.
Also, I found it interesting this morning when I logged into my Hotmail account, that the people at Hotmail chose today to redesign the Hotmail page. It is time for change, and my timing is impeccable.
Thank you, and God Bless America!
