Tips for Becoming a Writer
I really don’t know that I am qualified to do this, but I thought I’d try.
I have a real problem saying that I am a good writer, but people say that I am, and thank you so much for saying that. I really write to make myself laugh, and the fact that I can make other people laugh is truly flattering.
All that aside, I thought I would offer this post to people who want to improve their writing skills. I don’t guarantee any success to anyone who reads this, but simply talking about writing helps. (more…)

Another Turning Point…
I think I can say that my weekly Wednesday podcast is becoming the big draw here at the House. And I am really starting to enjoy them myself.
I was really looking forward to this week’s podcast, but my podcaster got broken in an unfortunate accident last night, so I’ll do the next best thing, pare it down and write it out.
I have spent the last two weekends going to graduations and receptions. This last Sunday, I returned to my alma mater, St. Thomas More in Rapid City, to observe the rather windy graduation proceedings there. And while I sat there for two hours (more…)

The ESN; Still the Rain Kept Pourin’
The past seven years, the kind citizens have had to pretend to be happy after every quarter inch rainfall. With the rain we received Thursday, Friday and Saturday, we have now received more than eight inches of moisture for the month of May. Considering that the yearly average in this part of the country is twelve inches, we truly have something to be happy about. The dams are full, the grass is green, and the “Elk Creek Trasks” can’t cross Elk Creek.

Saddle Tramping Away
I spent the weekend on the Saddle Tramp ride, and I actually did not get wet or chilled to the bone. Because it was so muddy, the Saddle Tramps elected to hole up at Al and Bridget’s Castle (well, more like Al and Bridget’s Outbuildings.)
But on Saturday afternoon, someone decided that since we had inconvenienced our horses already, we might as well go for a ride. So I pulled ol’ Duane out of the trailer, tightened my cinch and stepped on. I was sitting there in the bright sunshine with green grass all around me, thinking about how the cowboy life is the life for me when Milton Cotton rode by, on his steer.
Milton Cotton has a three year old, roughly eleven hundred (more…)

Oh What Fun
I’m almost 99% sure that I will spend the next two days as a guest on the annual Saddletramp Ride.
The forecast? 40% chance of rain today, tonight and tomorrow. It rained about half of yesterday, and all night last night. I discovered this morning (we haven’t had a prolonged rainy spell here for a long long time) that if it rains long enough, the water will come through my back door.
I can’t even say that I got into this by accident, like I normally would. No sirree, I got myself into this on purpose. And I really should have known better. The last time I went on a camping trip, I got to sleep through a blizzard outside. Well I tried to sleep through a blizzard, that’s more accurate. I was only out 12 hours, and my camping partners got to looking real tasty.
So wish me luck, but don’t bother feeling sorry for me, because whatever discomfort I experience I had comin’.
