Hubba the Dummy

I try really hard to write the ESN on Sunday nights, but sometimes I am just too busy on Sunday so I have to write it on Monday nights.  Such was the case this last Sunday, as we were moving yearlings to summer pasture.

While we were moving yearlings Sunday, a funny thing happened to everyone else.  We were nearing the end of our journey, which had been long enough to exhaust the yearlings, so that they were plodding along at an excruciatingly slow pace, and stopping when no one was looking.

There had also been a steady high wind out of the northwest, which required everyone to keep a hand near their headgear at all times (more…)

The ESN; Not Much

For no particular reason, the kind citizens just didn’t do much socializing this week. Perhaps they were resting up before May begins.

Several of the kind citizens attended the Dave Stover auction near Owanka on Saturday.

And at least one kind citizen attended the Sundquist/Brown auction in Wall on Saturday.

We begin the ESN this week with Larry and Peggy Gravatt. (more…)

The Gospel

I really like kids for several reasons.  The main reason is their unabashed honesty.  If something makes a grown-up uncomfortable, they will avoid discussing it.  If you press them, a man will lie to you and a woman will ignore you.  But a kid will walk straight up to you and offer their unsolicited perspective on the situation.  Usually their perspective is remarkably insightful.

My dad is very fond of throwing big wing-ding bashes on the ranch.  Usually we have two, one near Christmas and one near the fourth of July (more…)
