Hubba's House - The funniest cowboy in the West

The Elm Springs News; Rolling Along

March 31st, 2008

It tried to snow in western South Dakota this past week, with very little success. There was maybe an inch on the ground in Elm Springs Friday morning.

The Elm Springs lower grades recited their Civic Oration speeches Friday at the Elm Springs, school, mostly for the benefit of their parents. This year’s topic was “Great American Landmarks.”

The Wall and Philip high schools each held their prom in their respective town Saturday night. From Elm Springs, Joseph and Austin Trask, Baxter and Dunbar Anders, Kelli Wilson, Calder Johnston and Melanie Smith attended the Continue reading »

Things I Can’t Do #2

March 27th, 2008

Writing that one last week led me naturally to this one, which is another clothing related failure on my part-

I can’t wear suspenders. This one really bothered me for a while, because I really wanted to wear suspenders. A person who wears suspenders properly is so obviously a cut above the rest of us in cool-factor that it’s not even funny.

So I tried like the dickens to wear suspenders. Besides selecting the right pair to go with your outfit (ok, maybe I overthought this a little) you have to look relaxed while wearing them. That is the part I couldn’t pull off. If I wore them at about normal tension, they would slide off of my shoulders. Girls, I feel your pain on this one. That is the most annoying thing in the world. So I would be constantly adjusting my suspenders or sliding them back onto my shoulders. I looked about as relaxed as a flight attendant on Christmas Eve.

And if I tightened them up so they wouldn’t slide off, well then they would pop off my britches. Lemme tell ya, if you haven’t been repeatedly hit in the nose by a suspender clip that just sproinged off your britches, you don’t know how mad you can get. After about five miserable days, I finally had to admit that I just wasn’t cool enough to wear suspenders.

I promise the next post won’t contain any wardrobe malfunctions. (Oh hardy harr, I’m so funny!)

The Elm Springs News; Luck of the Bunny

March 25th, 2008

The Catholic kind citizens discovered that it was a little frosty before the sun and the Lord had risen on Easter Sunday morning. But they were dressed in their finest, singing Hallelujah at 7:30 in the morning at St. Margaret’s in Lakeside.

And over at the Elm Springs Church, kind citizens and relatives were wall to wall for the Easter Sunday service, which began at 8:00 under the direction of the Rev. Harold Delbridge. Afterwards, they all enjoyed brunch, unblessed by Continue reading »

Things I Can’t Do #1

March 22nd, 2008

Quite often, the posts on my website will be trivial observations, such as the following-

I never mastered the art of rolling up my sleeves.  Some of you might be saying thats because I don’t like to work, which is partly true, but there are other times when sleeve-rolling-upping comes in handy, like playing guitar or washing your hands.  But I can’t keep my sleeve rolled up for five seconds.  My cuffs always get wet when I wash my hands.

Maybe it’s the build of my arm, but I don’t think so.  There are people of all ages who can put on a long sleeve shirt, roll up the sleeves and go through the whole day without giving them a second thought.  Of course, I sometimes wonder why they bought a long sleeve shirt in the first place, if they wanted the comfort of a short sleeve shirt.

But the main thing is, I admire and envy anyone who has mastered the art of rolling up their sleeves.  Now go make America great!

ESN; The End of Winter

March 17th, 2008

A thin carpet of green can be seen on the ground in Elm Springs, which the kind citizens hope will be encouraged by the gentle rains. On Sunday, the kind citizens received a very wet, very heavy, and very brief snowfall which made travel difficult for about an hour and a half.

The Elm Springs People Who Play Cards held their last court whist tournament of the season at the “Big House” on Wednesday, with a Dutch themed supper. Winners for the year were Cary Johnston Continue reading »
