Hubba's House - The funniest cowboy in the West

The Elm Springs News

The gorgeous spring weather here in Elm Springs has really contributed to the growth of the grass, much to everyone’s content.

Several of the kind citizens attended either the Kitterman auction north of Wall or Eula Fergusons 93rd birthday party at the way-cool Dixie Diner, or both on Sunday.

Marvin and Carolyn Anders attended the Ray Price concert in Rapid City Tuesday night. Carolyn accompanied Twila Trask and Pam Livermont to Deadwood Friday night, where they attended a polka fest featuring Fr. Arni Kari on the accordion, before staying all night. And Carolyn hit it big at a slot machine as well, pocketing an undisclosed amount of money. On Sunday, Carolyn elected to spend the afternoon at the “Big Green Trask House” in Wall while Marvin went to the auction.

Clyde Arneson was a coffee visitor at the Lawrence Burke residence Tuesday and Friday mornings. Lawrence and Doris went to Rapid City Saturday where they had lunch with Melissa Burke. And grandson Skyler Burke was a visitor to the Burke residence on Sunday.

Larry and Peggy Gravatt went to Rapid City Saturday to watch Madi Fuegen skating. And Matt and John Paul Trask visited the Larry Gravatt residence briefly Sunday morning.

The Andy Linns left Saturday for Pierre, where Ben competed in the state 4-H shooting competition, doing well in both BB’s and pellets. The Linns found time to attend the Ft. Pierre horse races as well.

After pictures, they all went out to eat and shop. Margaret and Jack Simons and Matt Trask were supper guests at the Morris Linns Sunday night.

Cary and Pam Tines and JW and Dara Wrachford joined other motorcycle enthusiasts for a weekend motorcycle tour which included an overnight stay in Deadwood.

Matt Trask went on a tour of several Meade County schools on Tuesday. After supper at the Paul Bruch residence, he attended the Meade 46-1 school board meeting in Sturgis Tuesday night. And then on Friday, Matt, reasoning that if he is going to write songs he should get used to singing them, performed at the Sturgis Center for the Arts Songwriters Invitational. In true Matt Trask fashion, he arrived at the event without any of his seven guitars and had to borrow one to play the show. He played three silly songs and was rather well received. But when he left, again in true Matt Trask fashion, he was so absorbed in thoughts of broken dreams and fancy chord progressions that he ran a stop sign right in front of an observant highway patrolman.

RoseMary and Matt Trask went to the Elm Springs School Wednesday for an impromptu farewell party for Ms. Carolyn Mauer, who was instrumental in Matt and Maria’s education. She is resigning at the end of this year. On Friday, RoseMary attended the Special Olympics in Spearfish to watch Maria, and John Paul Trask, on his way home from Gilette, stopped to watch Maria for a while too. On Sunday, the “Upland Trasks” went to church in Wall, where young Joseph Bartholomew, along with several other fine young Catholics, was confirmed. After the confirmation service, there was a potluck at the Wall Community Center and then the “Upland Trasks” drifted in twos and threes to the “Big Green Trask House,” where several of them took a Sunday nap before they all went home. Visitors at the “Upland Trask” residence Sunday afternoon were Patrick Wilson and David and Jan Bertolotto of Sturgis.

Mark and Mick Trask left Friday for Oklahoma City, OK to attend the National Range Judging Competition.

Jim and Caroline Wilsey went to Rapid City Tuesday, where they visited Thelma Wilsey and Gale and Cliff Keyser. .Jim’s college buddies Bob Kelly and Les Larson of Rapid City visited the Jime Wilsey residence Wednesday. Jim and Caroline attended an auction in Belle Fourche on Saturday.

Janet and Kelli Wilson attended a wedding shower for Mandy Wilson in Huron Saturday.

And Mary Kay Wilson returned Wednesday from her trip to Brookings and Minnesota, where along with her parents, she visited the Josh Wolbergs and Beth Wilson and attended a Minnesota Twins game. She left Saturday on the South Dakota Tourism Department tour.

Dave Miller of Lingle, WY was a visitor at the Melvin Anderson residence Wednesday. Melvin and Dorothy met granddaughter Jessica Anderson of Conifer, CO in Rapid City for lunch Friday, where they got to see her new horse, although he probably did not get to have lunch with them. From there, the Andersons drove to Baker, MT to watch Kaycee and Ben Kraft compete in a high school rodeo. They returned Sunday.

The Elm Springs Church will hold services on the 6th and 20th of May at two pm, and those will be the last until September.

The kind citizens hope you’re enjoying the sunshine.

It continues to rain here in Elm Springs, and the kind citizens continue to be thankful for the rain.

Several of the kind citizens attended the Good Neighbor Banquet Saturday night at the Elks Club in Rapid City, where Elm Springs landowner Harold Oberlander was recognized for his good deeds.

Several of the kind citizens attended the MCARE after-election potluck at the Elm Springs Hall Sunday afternoon.

And the Elm Springs schoolchildren went on what Maria Trask called a “skip trip” Friday to Sturgis, where they toured the Rocking Tree floral shop, the Meade County jail, and then either the Ft. Meade Museum or the library, depending on how old they were. After the trip, most of the children attended Kassandra Linn’s early ninth birthday party in Rapid City.

Marvin and Carolyn Anders hosted Harold and Karen Delbridge and visitors from Michigan Thursday evening.

The Andy Linns attended Emily’s piano recital in Rapid City Sunday afternoon.

Early Saturday morning, the lightning which accompanied the rainstorm temporarily knocked the power out in a handful of the kind citizens homes, which is why Grandma Jean Linn found herself feeding Matt Trask coffee and cookies at the “Big House” Saturday morning.

Clyde Arneson, possibly because there was no power at his house, was a coffee visitor at the Cary Tines residence Saturday morning. And Ronnie and Joan Racicky and Amanda Humphrey were all visitors at the Tines residence Sunday.

All of the Trasks had a slow week, except maybe one.

Shelia Trask attended the “Scottiefest” in Philip Thursday evening.

The “Upland Trasks” didn’t do much either. Pat went to town once or twice, Sean Troxel was a visitor Saturday night, and Joe and Austin Trask and friends embarked on the “Easter Camping Trip” Sunday night, a week or two late.

Matt Trask has discovered two things; first that all you have to do to be a songwriter is say that you are, and second that songwriters get more cookies than regular people. He is having fun with his latest scam. On Sunday, Jonathan Arnio, CJ Tice, Edson Dartt, and Tristen Williams visited the Matt Trask residence to help him record more songs. Several people stopped by to view the process, including Nick, Gemma, Maria and Celine Trask and Richard Johnston.

Mary Kay Wilson left Saturday for Hoven, where she picked up Darell and Norma Harer who accompanied her to Brookings to help Pam Wilson celebrate her 19th birthday.

Jim and Caroline Wilsey went to Whitewood Wednesday to pick up their car. Bunny Pauley and the girls were visitors at the Jim Wilsey residence for lunch Sunday.

The kind citizens really hope it keeps raining!

It was rather cold this past week in Elm Springs. All of the kind citizens had to go find their coats again.

On Saturday, Jonathan Arnio and Michael Swan of Wall and CJ Tice and Edson Dartt of Rapid City visited the Matt Trask residence to help him operate all of the recording equipment he bought last fall. They recorded seven really cheesy country songs Matt had written, mostly about how he “can’t find no supper.” Wade Wulf visited again, and Matt and Wade went to the “Upland Trask” residence, where they ate supper and rehearsed again, this time with Austin Trask on bass and Julie Trask as musical director. Austin spent Saturday night at the Matt Trask residence. On Sunday, Matt and Austin went to mass at Lakeside, ate coffee and donuts, and then had breakfast at the Elm Springs Church on the way home. Praise the Lord!

RoseMary and Gemma Trask ran errands in Rapid City Thursday afternoon. John Paul Trask arrived at the “Upland Trask”residence from Wyoming Friday afternoon, and Steph and Julie arrived Saturday morning from Colorado. Saturday visitors at the “Upland Trask” residence were Ray Olson and Sean Troxel. The “Upland Trasks,” complete with Ray Olson and Al and Bridget Trask, had Easter fun finding eggs and playing Balderdash. They all decided that it was too cold and windy for a scavenger hunt.

And thats about it. The kind citizens hope you had a joyful Easter, or at least a warm one.
