The kind citizens are positively swaggering through all the mud in their community after receiving another three inches of rain over the weekend. Life is good.
Several of the kind citizens attended the Wall Homecoming football game Friday night, in which a fired up White River team handed Wall a soggy 24-20 loss.
And several of the kind citizens attended the Prospector Bowl in Lead Saturday, mostly to watch Philip get trounced by Harding County.
And some of the kind citizens attended the Golden West annual meeting in Wall on Saturday.
Baxter and Dunny Anders were Saturday night visitors at the Matt Trask residence. Al and Bridget Trask were Sunday supper guests at the Rod Anders residence.
Lindsay, Talon and Thane Elshere were weekend guests at the Ryan Elshere residence.
Andy and Kelli Linn hosted Jim Jepsen of Scenic Sunday afternoon and Clyde Arneson Sunday night.
John and Jean Linn had supper with Charlotte Wilsey and the girls Thursday night in Rapid City.
Shirrise Linn attended a shower at the Jodi Moreland residence near Union Center Thursday. Friday the Morris Linns went to Rapid City for appointments. And Sunday, Shirrise and Kassandra left Morris at the Bummer Simons residence while they attended a baby shower at the Misty Walker residence. After the shower, the Morris Linns had supper with the Simons’ to help young Maverick celebrate his second birthday.
Darlene Wulf accompanied Bunny Pauley to Isabel Thursday, to pick fruit and vegetables at the John Bolt residence.
Cary and Pam Tines hosted Coby Tines through the weekend, Amanda and Katie Humphrey on Saturday and Ross and Marci Bishop of Jackson, WI on Sunday.
Al and Bridget Trask entertained Matt and Nick Trask on Saturday.
The “Elk Creek Trasks” attended a Lady Scotties volleyball game in Murdo on Thursday night, and spent Friday night at the Robert and Kaelyn Powell residence near Johnson Siding Friday night.
The “Upland Trasks” social week revolved around Nick’s birthday on Wednesday and Julie’s birthday on Friday. A joint birthday party was held at the “Upland Trask” residence on Saturday night, with Ray Olsen, Clay Tines and Al and Bridget Trask in attendance. After his party, Nick visited the Paul Bruch residence near Bear Butte. Pat and RoseMary attended an SDSU fundraiser in Keystone Saturday. Cary and Clay Tines and Ross and Marci Bishop were Sunday evening guests at the “Upland Trask” residence.
Ben Linn began guitar instruction Monday afternoon, at the Matt Trask residence. It should be noted that Matt is also instructing Autumn Deering, on Tuesday evenings at the Deering residence. And Matt visited the John and Darlene Wulf residence on Sunday for “coffee,” which happened to include four brownies, two blueberry muffins, several helpings of apple cake with chocolate whipped cream, and a plate of BLT sandwiches. No, Matt hasn’t lost his touch.
Jim and Caroline Wilsey went to Hot Springs on business Friday. Kelly and Ben Wilsey of Tea were Saturday night guests at the Wilsey residence.
Philip and Mary Kay Wilson returned Tuesday from the South Dakota Association of Conservation Districts annual meeting in Pierre. Pam Wilson came home from Brookings for the Wall Homecoming weekend, and on Sunday, after visiting the John Wulfs and the Jim Smiths, Philip and Mary Kay helped ready Pam’s car for the trip back.
Bub Bradley of Hereford was a Thursday visitor at the Melvin Anderson residence.
The kind citizens are smiling really big.

Everyone has more or less settled into the school year routine here in Elm Springs, which usually means a lessening of social activities, if one doesn’t count sporting events.
The wind blew mightily over the weekend, which is all that can be said about the weather.
The outcome of the annual Wall/New Underwood football game is a subject of great interest to the kind citizens, as most of them have ties to both communities. At this years contest, according to young Mattee Ann Pauley, “Wall killed New Underwood,” 40-14.
The Elm Springs Jolly Ranchers 4-H Club met at the Andy Linn residnece Thursday evening.
Several men from Elm Spings participated in the annual Buckaroo Ride over the weekend, which was held this year on the Owen Garnos ranch south of Reliance.
Carolyn Anders returned home Sunday from her trip with two of her sisters to see a fourth sister in Spokane, WA. In addition to Spokane, where they picked fruit, the sisters went shopping in Sand Point, ID, and took a boat ride and watched the homecoming parade in Cour D’Alene.
Baxter and Dunny Anders, performing together at a team roping in Rapid City on Sunday, did very well.
Cary and Pam Tines visited Clyde and Connie Arneson Saturday night to, as Clyde said, “test my pickled eggs and Canadian beer.”
Brad Bookbinder left Wednesday for Wisconsin. Pending the outcome of a telephone interview, he may end up in New York. Marion Case was a Thursday night supper guest at the Larry Gravatt residence to celebrate her birthday. And Chase and Carter Gravatt were Saturday visitors to the Gravatt ranch.
The “Big House” is a bit whiter than it was, as Jean Linn completed her painting project toward the end of the week. John and Jean Linn attended the Brink family reunion in Union Center on Sunday.
Morris, Shirrise and Kassandra Linn went to Rapid City Monday to keep appointments. Shelane Graham was a Wednesday dinner guest at the Morris Linns. Kassandra began piano lessons in Wall on Thursday, under the instruction of Carla Brucklacher. Shirrise attended a stamp party at the Jodi Shaw residence near Union Center Friday, and the Morris Linns hosted Sandy, Ganeva and David Van Vleck on Saturday.
Bud Pauley entertained Clay Tines, Sean Troxel and Matt Trask at his residence Thursday evening. Jim and Caroline Wilsey visited the Bud Pauley residence briefly Sunday night.
Cary and Pam Tines went to Rapid City Sunday to eat lunch and spend the day with Grandma Natalie Termes.
Bridget Trask returned from Iowa Monday morning, having left Al in the care of Chuck Enders for a trip to Pierre. Bridget went to Rapid City on Friday, and Al and Bridget attended a wedding reception in Rapid City Saturday night. Sunday evening, Al and Bridget entertained Nick and Julie Trask at the Castle.
Joe and Austin Trask again took turns staying at the “Big Green Trask House” in Wall during the week. Holly and Cameron Sukup of Nebraska came out for the weekend, and Holly accompanied Nick and Julie to the wedding reception that Al and Bridget attended.
Matt Trask spent the weekend engaged in the responsibilities of being an usher at the Rob Goodman/Andrea Neuman wedding on Saturday in Rapid City. In addition to the regular duties of an usher, Matt had the honor of escorting the bride’s mother, Mrs. Nancy Neuman, to her seat at the beginning of the ceremony. The young groom summed the occasion up nicely at the reception, when he said “here’s hoping that the new Goodman’s are as good as the good Neuman’s,” referring of course to his parents-in-law. Who wouldn’t want such a clever young man married to their daughter?
Mark Trask, along with several other young people, celebrated his confirmation in the Catholic Church Sunday in Philip, with Kenny Wilson as his sponsor.
At the “Brustol AFB” the Wrachfords have had uncomfortable enounters with two skunks in the last week. The second one, under the deck, had to be removed.
Melvin and Dorothy Anderson spent the weekend at the Spirit of the West Festival in Sioux Falls, where they got the chance to meet Roy Rogers’ daughter Genie.

The Elm Springs News
The weather has been delightful here in Elm Springs, and although the kind citizens have not received any more rain, they continue to enjoy the milder temperatures.
Carolyn Anders joined sisters Kay Abbott and Twila Trask on a trip to Spokane, WA Saturday to visit sister Belva Reilly.
The Elm Springs Rebels basketball teams began practice Wednesday in Union Center, with Sam Johnston and Andy Linn as coaches.
Clyde Arneson visited the Matt Sandal residence near Cottonwood Friday. On Saturday, Clyde and Connie went to Belle Fourche to see Gladys Arneson and Ray and Millie Schmidt and attend a going away party for a nephew at the Schmidt residence.
John and Kathy Tuxford of Rapid City were Wednesday visitors at the Lawrence Burke residence. Also on Wednesday, Clyde Arneson helped Lawrence tow his tractor to the Red Owl Garage.
Ryan and Chrissy Elshere hosted JJ and Lindsay Elshere and James Willert for supper on Thursday night, and they got to keep their nephew Thane until Saturday. On Sunday the Elsheres traveled to Philip to attend an Elshere/Arthur family potluck. Back at home Sunday night, the Elsheres hosted Cory Levine and Clint Hammerstrom.
Sandy Fields went to Rapid City Wednesday, where she had lunch with her mother Carmen Agner.
Brad Bookbinder returned to the Gravatt Ranch from his visit to Florida on Thursday.
Carlee and Savanna Johnston were joined by Emily Linn for the first piano lesson of the year in Rapid City Tuesday.
Andy and Morris and the Linn children took Matt Trask along on a visit to the Roger and Kathleen Shull residences near Creighton Saturday.
John and Jean Linn returned from the Excel fall Campout at Jack’s Campers near Piedmont Sunday. On Saturday they toured the Ft. Meade Museum and attended John’s class reunion.
Scott and Jared Simons and Clyde Arneson were dinner guests at the Morris Linn residence Monday. Shirrise spent Thursday at the Shelane Graham residence. Morris and Shirrise went to Rapid City Friday to run errands, while Kassandra spent the afternoon at the Sam Johnston residence.
Pat and Julie Trask returned Tuesday night from Colorado, where they had been searching for a place for Julie to live. Matt, Nick and Julie Trask attended the Tom Clements/Lacey Gunn wedding dance in Wall Tuesday night. Joe and Austin Trask spent the weekend in turns at the “Big Green Trask House” in Wall with Uncle Milton, and several other “Upland Trasks” visited him Sunday night.
Al and Bridget Trask left Friday morning for northern Iowa to pick up a horse trailer and while they were there, visited Bridget’s dad Patrick Madrid, who was in Dubuque on business.
Jim and Caroline Wilsey returned Monday from Brandon, where they attended the wedding of their granddaughter Kaci Wilsey to Jarrid Thomas. Thursday night, the Wilseys joined Melvin and Dorothy Anderson for supper at the Bud Pauley residence. And Sunday, Jim and Caroline took a drive through the Black Hills.
Philip, Mary Kay, Kenny and Patrick Wilson joined John and Darlene Wulf, Dan Turgeon and two friends, Bruce and Linda Kroetch, Dave, Judy, Todd and Lisa Custis and Clay Weaver on a motorcycle tour of South Dakota and Wyoming Monday to celebrate Labor Day.
Sean Troxel has returned to the “Brustol AFB” from his stay in South Carolina, where he was prevented from joining the Army because of a medical condition.
The kind citizens hope it stays cool.

The Elm Springs News
The kind citizens are enjoying their cool, fall-like weather, and the grass and foliage produced by last Sunday’s rain. Their was another shower on Friday, which left another six tenths on the ground. Elm Springs doesn’t even seem like the place it was two weeks ago.
Twenty one students returned to the Elm Springs School to begin the school year on Monday, under the instruction of Mrs. Terry Berry and Ms. Marion Case and with the assistance of Mrs. Kerrie Howie and Mrs. Micheala Niederwerder.
Some of the kind citizens attended the Phillip’s Trucking appreciation dance with music by Black Velvet and featuring Miss Rodeo South Dakota 2006 Sorrel Mckay.
Several of the kind citizens attended a birthday party for Carolyn Anders, which also served as the christening of their new sun room Tuesday.
Clyde Arneson went to the dentist in Sturgis on Tuesday.
Larry Gravatt and Clyde Arneson visited the Lawrence Burke residence Friday. Lawrence visited the Russell Burmeister residence in Wasta on Sunday.
Lonnie Arneson was a supper guest at the Ryan and Chrissy Elshere residence Thursday, to help Chrissy celebrate her birthday.
Brad Bookbinder left the Larry Gravatt residence for Florida Tuesday, to visit his family. Jerry and Chase Gravatt were helpful visitors at the Larry Gravatt residence on Sunday.
The Sam Johnston ’s attended the Labor Day Rodeo in New Underwood on Saturday, where the kids competed.
The Andy Linns entertained Harold, Robert and Melissa Campbell of MacIntosh Monday night. Sunday, Andy and Kellie had a houseful all day long, beginning with Jean Linn and Charlotte, Laura and Katie Wilsey, who after conquering last weekend’s painting project, came over for hot chocolate. Emily Linn left with them, making room for, in order of their arrival Carson Johnston, Austin Trask and Tucker O’Rourke, Al and Bridget Trask and Patrick Wilson. All of the above had supper at the Andy Linn residence.
John and Jean Linn, as already mentioned, hosted the Wilsey’s at the “Big House” over the weekend. They also hosted Kassandra Linn Sunday afternoon.
The Morris Linns only social note for the week was on Saturday, when Clyde Arneson and Roger Shull were dinner guests and Roger returned for supper.
Cary and Pam Tines returned from Douglas, WY Monday night. Saturday night, they entertained Matt Trask, Coby Tines and Truette Northup. And Clyde Arneson and Andy Linn were Sunday morning coffee visitors.
Al and Bridget Trask went to Rapid City Friday, and entertained Tucker O’Rourke Saturday night.
The “Elk Creek Trasks” went to Murdo Friday night, to watch the Philp Scotties blank the Jones Co. Coyotes, 53-0. Mark and Mick Trask both played for the Scotties. On Sunday, the “Elk Creek Trasks” attended the annual Turkey Shoot in Wall.
The “Upland Trasks” scattered to the four winds over the week. Monday, they hosted Harold, Robert and Melissa Campbell, Morris and Andy Linn and Ray Olson for dinner. On Tuesday, RoseMary and Matt left for Rochester, MN. Pat left for San Francisco, CA on Wednesday and, possibly inspired by his younger brother Al, Nick Trask went on a blind date in Rapid City with Ms. Ashley Brownell of Gilette, WY. The date was set up by Emil Magnuson of Rapid City, but Ms. Brownell might not have been impressed by Nick’s mohawk haircut. RoseMary and Matt spent Wednesday night at the Don Doerr residence in Preston, MN, visited Bobbie Jean Haneke at her home in Beresford Thursday afternoon, met Marion Eberhard at the Perkins Restaurant in Sioux Falls Thursday night, and arrived home Friday morning early. Steph and Julie left for Colorado on Friday morning, where Steph intends to live in Colorado Springs and Julie in Ft. Collins. The remnant of “Upland Trasks” entertained Tucker O’Rourke and Al and Bridget on Sunday.
Philip and Mary Kay Wilson returned Monday from Brookings, where they escorted Pam for her first year of college.
And the Kenny Wilsons entertained Tyler Wilson over the weekend.
The kind citizens really like all the rain they’re getting.
