Having celebrated Thanksgiving the kind citizens find themselves once again in what is commonly called the Holiday Season, as another year comes to an end. And boy did they ever celebrate Thanksgiving! Here’s how they did it.

“Some of the Anders,” says Carolyn, went to the Livermont Ranch in the Badlands for Thanksgiving. Apparently which Anders’ went and what the other Anders’ did are unimportant details.

Clyde Arneson went to Wall Monday on business. Thanksgiving day the Clyde Arnesons celebrated Thanksgiving at their home.

Lawrence and Doris Burke met Melissa in Rapid City for Thanksgiving dinner. Friday Lawrence and Doris attended the funeral of Elaine Allen in Sturgis. Saturday Lawrence and his tractor went to help Clyde Arneson. And Sunday morning, Lawrence and Pat Trask took a drive around Elm Springs.

Matt and Steph Trask were visitors at the Kody DeVries residence Tuesday night. Kody left Wednesday for Iowa, where he spent the Thanksgiving weekend with friends and family, returning to Elm Springs Sunday night.

Larry Gravatt brought Jack out to Elm Springs Wednesday. Thanksgiving was spent at the Gravatt residence with the Berry Gavatts, the Jerry Gravatts, the Byron Denkes, and as the email report put it, “various husbands, girlfriends, and grandkids.” Cherry Denke spent Thursday night with Jack while Stacey Denke spent the night with Larry and Peggy. Mike and Amber Miller of Denver CO were visitors to the Gravatts on Friday, bringing Madi and Steele Fuegen out from Rapid City. Larry took Jack back to Ft. Meade Sunday.

The Ryan Elsheres went to the Jim and Lana Elshere residence near Milesville for Thanksgiving. On Sunday, JJ and Lindsay Elshere visited Ryan and Chrissy, and the two Elshere families, in a further sign that the Holiday Season is upon us, went hunting for Christmas trees.

The Sam Johnstons spent Thanksgiving Day at the Norma Pellegrin residence in New Underwood. Saturday, Sam and Cary Johnston met Tip Taylor near Presho for a day of pheasant hunting.

The Andy Linns left Wednesday for Pueblo CO where they spent the Thanksgiving weekend with Jim and Jean Ross.

Charlie and Carol Linn of Rapid City accompanied John and Jean Linn to Deadwood Thanksgiving Day.

Shirrise Linn ran errands in Rapid City on Tuesday, and visited Charlotte Wilsey. Bummer and Jodi Simons and Matt Trask were supper guests at the Morris Linns Wednesday night. Thanksgiving visitors at the Morris Linns were Grandma Arlene and Dayton, Scott and Jack Simons, Uncle Jim Linn, and Bummer Simons. Bummer began the journey from Enning to Elm Springs in his new flying machine, but his progress was retarded by a stiff breeze blowing in the opposite direction from that which he was flying, so he returned home and traded the flying machine in for an automobile. Bummer Simons visited the Morris Linns again on Friday. Saturday visitors were Deb Brookman, Grandma Arlene and Dayton, and Clyde Arneson. Jean Linn was a Sunday visitor at the Morris Linns.

The Brady O’Rourkes spent Thanksgiving at the Boise and Kathy Kennedy residence in Wall, in the company of other O’Rourkes.

The Bud Pauleys embarked on a whirlwind Thanksgiving adventure, traveling to Buffalo to spend Wednesday night with Rexine Till before visiting Grandma Vigorn in Bowman ND Thanksgiving morning and then going to Glendive MT for the Thursday rehearsal of the Friday wedding of Autumn McDonald to Zane Bempewolf. The Pauleys spent Saturday night with Rex Burghduff near Camp Crook before returning to Elm Springs on Sunday.

Cary Tines and family joined the extended Tines clan at the New Underwood Community Center on Thankssgiving Day.

The “Elk Creek Trasks” spent the week wrapping up the Dakota Trophies hunting activity.

And on the flat, the “Upland Trasks” had a week that would not end. Al Trask left Wedenesday morning for Sioux Falls, where he boarded a plane bound for Columbus OH, where Al spent the Thanksgiving weekend with Bridget Madrid and her family. About the time he left, the “Upland Trasks” were visited by Deacon Rick Wendell. On Thanksgiving Day, the “Upland Trasks” went to Rapid City, where, under the dissaproving gaze of Matt, they participated in the “Turkey Trot” 5 kilometer race. Afterwards they helped serve the meal at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Friday visitors were Tyler Wilson, John Tines, and Wyatt Volmer. Nick Trask and Tyler Wilson visited briefly at the Matt Trask residence Friday night. On Saturday, the “Upland Trasks” went to Alexandria to visit sister Becky, in the company of Wade and Marion Eberhard and Bobbi Jean Haneke. Becky, it should be noted, seems very happy and exhibits a very changed character, which is not to say that it has changed for the worse. After visiting Becky, the “Upland Trasks” went to Sioux Falls, where they ate supper with the Eberhards and Hanekes before picking up a very dilapidated old truck to drive home. Several of the “Upland Trasks” attended Danny O’Connell’s 80th birthday party at the Wall Drug Store Sunday afternoon.

But the usually reserved and quiet Al Trask once again stole the “Upland Trask” show, with his announcement that, after what could easily be called a whirlwind romance, he is now engaged to be married to the lovely Ms. Bridget Madrid. Details are pending.

Not even the flamboyant and gluttonous Matt can top that one. Celine Trasks overnight stay at his house Friday, and his brunch visit to the John Wulf residence Sunday morning, while somewhat charming, seem rather paltry by comparison.

The Philip Wilsons celebrated Thanksgiving at the Kenny Wilsons. Susan Aker of Wall was a Thursday night guest at the Philip Wilsons. And Kevin and Joan Howland of Rapid City visited the Wilsons on Saturday.

Tyler Wilson arrived in Elm Springs Friday for an extended stay.

Melvin and Dorothy Anderson had lunch at the Dale and Mary Lewis residence in Wasta Tuesday. Wednesday, Laramie Opstedahl of Owanka was a visitor at the Anderson residence. And Melvin and Dorothy had Thanksgiving dinner at Tiffany’s in Rapid City.

JW Wrachford and Sean Troxel joined the Tines’ at the New Underwood Community Center for Thanksgiving. Matt Trask and his tarnished banner stopped briefly to visit at the “Brustol AFB” Friday, and Clyde Arneson and Morris Linn made separate visits on Saturday.

The kind citizens think maybe they should keep a better eye on those “Upland Trasks.”

The Elm Springs News

November 20th, 2005

In Elm Springs, the week began with bitterly cold temperatures and high winds and no precipitation of any kind. By Thursday, the weather had warmed considerably.

The Elm Springs People Who Play Cards met Wednesday night at the Jim and Caroline Wilsey residence. Deann Barber of Boneita Springs substituted for Andy Linn and Matt Trask substituted for Morris Linn. At the conclusion of the evening, many of the regulars noted that the finger foods and snacks served at this function were pretty well gone, and they were not casting sidelong glances at Deann Barber.

The Elm Springs Fall Festival at the Elm Springs Church was a success Sunday, with songs and recitals by several. Matt Trask, who had a spectacular week, showed up at this as well and not only did he help himself several times to the potluck meal, but he insisted on getting one of his guitars and performing surgery on several venerable old hymns as some sort of strange “payment” for his meal. If only the kind citizens could have their skunks back!

Several of the kind citizens attended either Melvin Anderson’s book signing at Borders Bookstore or Melvin and Dorothys 24th wedding anniversary party at the Golden Corral restaurant, or both, Saturday in Rapid City.

Lowell Wentworth of Pennsylvania was a visitor to the Lawrence and Doris Burke residence Wednesday morning. Clyde Arneson was a visitor Thursday morning. And Friday, Lawrence picked up Russell Burmeister in Wasta, who accompanied him to Floyd Kjerstads 70th birthday party in Quinn.

Shirrise Linn returned home Tuesday morning, in the company of her mother, who has stayed the whole week. The kind citizens of Elm Springs have once again proven their kindness, and Shirrise wishes to thank all those who stopped by and left food. The Morris Linns were visited on Tuesday by Andy Linn and Cary Johnston. Wednesday, Jean Linn and Matt and Nick Trask. Clyde Arneson accompanied Morris to Rapid City. Friday, Shirrise and Kassandra visited at the Sam Johnston residence, where Kassandra spent the afternoon. On Saturday, Sandy Van Vleck of Wall was a visitor. Jack Simons was a dinner guest. Shirrise and Kassandra visited the Ryan Elshere residence in the afternoon, and the Sanden Simons family were visitors at the Morris Linns that evening.

Sunday, Grandma Arlene and Dayton were visitors at the Morris Linns. Cary Johnston and Chrissy Elshere stopped by in the afternoon. And Scott and Lynn Simons were supper guests.

The “Elk Creek Trasks” are busily engaged hosting the Dakota Trophies hunting camp at their place. Several very nice deer have been harvested in the Elm Springs area, both by Dakota Trophies shooters and others. Many of the kind citizens may have been at the hunting camp supper Sunday night, which would explain why they don’t appear in this week’s ESN.

And the “Upland Trasks” are still making too much noise up on the flat, with trips to the four winds, and visits from David Kalil of Rapid City Friday and Howard and Linda Risenhower of Beech, ND on Sunday.

Matt Trask, as noted before, had a spectacular week. He did not go back to work poisoning prairie dogs until Thursday because of the weather, and so had three days to enjoy himself in Elm Springs. Enjoy himself he certainly did, with visits to both the Andy and Morris Linn residences on Monday night, a visit to the Tim and Linda Haugen residence on Tuesday night, and the card party Wednesday night. And his appearance at the Elm Springs Church on Sunday was preceded by a similar appearance at St. Margarets Catholic Church that morning, where more devout parishoners than he had brought food to celebrate Fr. Leo Haussman receiving his Canon Law Degree. More temperate people might get indigestion when they consider the fact that Matt did all of this the week before Thanksgiving.

Janet Wilson and Linda Tift attended the end of the year party for rest area workers, held in Sioux Falls over the weekend.

Mary Kay and Pam Wilson, meanwhile, attended SDSU’s Senior Day in Brookings before attending the rest area party themselves.

After hosting cards Wednesday night, Jim Wilsey left Thursday morning for Dallas, TX, to see his sister Marge Fenner. Caroline, meanwhile, entertained Harlan and Carol Fawcett of Bismark ND, Brad and Taryn Fawcett of Byron MN and John Mariner of Rochester MN over the weekend.

In addition to the book signing and anniversary party, Melvin and Dorothy Anderson attended the funeral of Melvins cousin Norma Hertel in Gillette WY Thursday and John and Aaron Reule Saturday. Friday, Dorothy joined Jean Linn and Sandy Fields for the trip to Wasta to meet with the quilters, and then to Wall for lunch at the Red Rock Cafe.

Be sure to read next weeks ESN, where Al Trask flies off to Columbus OH again, and the rest of the “Upland Trasks” go to visit Becky for the first time since she joined the convent.

The kind citizens wish you the happiest of Thanksgivings!

The Elm Springs News

November 13th, 2005

God in His infinite wisdom on Saturday saw fit to send a rain shower to the kind citizens of Elm Springs, which amounted to .27”, as measured at the “Big House.” The kind citizens pray that He has more “infinite wisdom” of this sort up His sleeve.

And along with the rain, there was a flood of hunters in Elm Springs on Saturday for the opening of prairie deer season. Their endeavors were largely hindered by the rain and accompanying high winds.

Marvin Anders went “to town one day for tires,” according to his wife.

Melissa Burke and Barry Ellenbecker were visitors at the Lawrence Burke residence a couple of days this week. Clyde Arneson on Friday accompanied Lawrence Burke to Enning for service, Red Owl for parts, and Union Center for lunch. Keith Bowman of Lander WY was a Saturday visitor at the Lawrence Burkes.

Kody DeVries accompanied Clyde Arneson to Rapid City Sunday.

The Ryan Elsheres were Friday night supper guests at the Sam Johnstons. Sunday night, Lonnie Arneson was a supper guest at the Ryan Elsheres.

Larry Gravatt brought Jack out to Elm Springs from Ft. Meade for a visit Saturday. Jack and his dog had a very happy reunion. In addition, Cherry Denke, Lawrence Burke, Keith Bowman, and Andy, Ben and Jacob Linn all visited Jack.

In addition to the Elsheres, Morris and Kassandra Linn were supper guests at the Sam Johnstons Friday night, after Kassandra had spent the afternoon.

The Andy Linns entertained Carlee Johnston on Thursday and Carter Elshere on Friday, in addition to entertaining Kassandra Linn at various intervals throughout the week.

Emily Linn and Carlee Johnston attended the Becky Hammon basketball camp at Stevens High School in Rapid City, being driven by Kellie Linn on Saturday and Teann Rogers of rural Enning on Sunday. Sunday night the Andy Linns hosted the ElmSprings Jolly Ranchers 4-H Club meeting. In addition to the Linn children, Jolly Ranchers present were Mayzee and Mattee Pauley, Kelli Wilson, and Calder, Carson and Carlee Johnston.

Shirrise Linn spent the whole week with her mother and family in Rochester MN.

Pam Tines spent the first part of the week in Wyoming where she visited her sister Cheryl Gerard in Buffalo before staying with her parents, Max and Sarah Miller, in Douglas. Matt Trask was a supper guest at the Cary Tines residence on Friday night, and Kody DeVries made his appearance there Saturday night.

Of course the opening of prairie deer season means that the “Elk Creek Trasks” are busy hosting the Dakota Trophies hunting camp, including the various neighbors who serve as guides on their own ranches. Perhaps of more importance is Tom and Shelia’s Friday trip to Vermillion to watch the Phillip Scotties football team play in the state championship game against Hanson. Although they lost the contest, theyshould be heartily congratulated for making it to “the Dome,” especially since they had to triumph over Matt Devine and the Gettysburg Whosits to get there.

The Big News of last week, Bridget Madrid, accompanied Al Trask to Martin on Monday for an R-CALF function. Although Al is well versed in the intricacies of the cattle market, he may have a thing or two left to learn about women. On Tuesday, Al drove Bridget to the airport where she departed. Nothing of particular note happened at the “Upland Trask” residence the rest of the work week. David and Kevin Kalil of Rapid City were visitors both Saturday and Sunday, and Fr. Tim Hoag, most recently of Spearfish, was also a Sunday visitor.

Matt Trask made what he considers to be a grave error Friday afternoon as he was driving home from wherever he had been. Spying Jim and David Smith along the side of the road near their home, he stopped to talk without realizing that they were building fence. When he came to his senses, he was horrified to realize that not only was he holding a “tamping bar,” but that he had apparently even been using it. Although it is doubtful that he set more than one or two posts, the Smiths should be congratulated for extracting a small amount of work from him without feeding him anything.

Gemma Trask was an overnight guest at the Matt Trask residence Saturday night, and Kody DeVries visited briefly as well. On Sunday, Matt attended a meeting of the Wasta Centennial Committee, where he delivered several completely irrelevant insights before devouring the last of the cookies.

Bruce Wilsey of Sioux Falls, Dan and Ryan Konz and Wayne Miller of Brandon were all weekend visitors at the Jim Wilsey residence to hunt deer. Jim and Caroline, meanwhile, were in Orlando FL, vacationing with the Kent Wilsey family. They returned Sunday afternoon.

Philip, Mary Kay and Pam Wilson returned Monday from Minneapolis MN, where they had spent the weekend visiting Josh, Amy and Mary Ann Wolberg and Beth Wilson. Philip attended the Wasta Centennial meeting mentioned above. It is an almost offensive understatement to say that Philip Wilson is more helpful than Matt Trask. With that being said, Philip would like to hear from people who know about the happenings in the Wall/Wasta/Owanka etc. area in or around the year 1906, or even better, from those who may have the great good fortune to personally recall those events. Philip Wilson can be reached at 798-5303.

A word about the Wasta Centennial Committee; these people are a dynamic lot and their enthusiasm for their cause is dangerously infectious. With even the smallest amount of luck, they will make a loud Centennial roar in 2006.

Back in Elm Springs, Carolyn Anders would like everyone to know about the Elm Springs Church Fall Festival, not to be confused with the recent Elm Springs Hall Halloween Festival. The Fall Festival begins at two o’clock pm this Sunday, the 20th of November, with church service and a potluck and special music following.

The kind citizens hope that the skunks don’t provide the special music!

The kind citizens of Elm Springs were caught firmly in the clutches of Old Man Winter on Monday, and he has not let go. If anything, his grip is getting firmer. As they stare out the window at the blowing snow, or chop ice from the water tank, the kind citizens find it hard to believe that not so long ago, they fought fire almost every Saturday night.

Of course, the first full blast of winter generally puts a damper on social activities, which was the case this week, with one notable exception.

Several of the kind citizens attended the Ag Banquet Thursday night at the Civic Center in Rapid City. It should be noted that Hugh Ingalls of Faith, whose bulls reside in several pastures throughout Elm Springs, was awarded Ag Producer of the Year at this function. The usually conversational and always charming Mr. Ingalls was so flummoxed by the award that he had almost nothing to say at the podium.

Lynn Fields took his mother Leona to Sturgis Friday to run errands.

Kody DeVries visited at the Robert Dennis residence near Red Owl Sunday afternoon.

Larry Gravatt brought Jack home from Ft. Meade for good Thursday, and Jack is happy to be back, Old Man Winter notwithstanding. Cherry Denke spent Saturday night with Jack.

Rick, Vicki, and Shania Johnston visited the Sam Johnston ranch on Saturday to cut a Christmas tree. At the conclusion of this event, the Sam Johnston children persuaded their parents to allow them to accompany the Rick Johnstons back to their residence, which they did, staying Saturday night.

Matt Trask showed up bright and early Tuesday morning at the Andy Linn residence, for breakfast. Kelli Linn and the kids went to Rapid City Wednesday.

Matt Trask visited the Morris Linn residence Monday night. Friday, Morris hosted his NFR calcutta party. Participants this year, besides Morris, are Andy Linn, Matt, Nick and Al Trask, Ryan and Chrissy Elshere, Lonnie and Clyde Arneson, Clint Hammerstrom, Nichols Caspers, Bud Pauley, Larry Gravatt, Jack Simons and Jay Price. Several of the participants stayed at the Morris Linn residence until well after the showing of the first round of the NFR had ended.

And now to the notable exception mentioned earlier. Every year for at least fifteen years, Morris Linn, in the company of Gene Pluth and Roger Shull, has gone to Deadwood on the Saturday before his December 8th birthday. As part of the tradition, the merry trio has always stopped at the Elk Creek Steakhouse on the way to Deadwood. This year, because Morris will turn 40, his wife decided that a surprise party was in order, and she decided that ambushing her darling husband at the Elk Creek Steakhouse on his way to Deadwood would be the perfect surprise. To that end she began, as early as January, setting the trap. The wily Shirrise spun a masterful web of subterfuge, complete with phantom stamping parties and bogus hotel reservations, and enlisted the aid of Morris’ closest friends in the betrayal of tradition that they hoped he would ultimately appreciate.
And so, on Saturday, Matt Trask showed up at the Morris Linn residence at noon, to accompany Morris “to Deadwood.” As Matt had invited himself along on the trip last year, his aid was requested as well. Matt was absolutely no help in keeping Morris out of Shirrise’ way, and in fairness to Matt, he was in a rather delicate position. But finally, Shirrise and Kassandra Linn and Cheryl Simons left for the “stamp party,” and shortly thereafter, Morris and Matt left Elm Springs, first going to Wasta to pick up Chuck Van Vleck and then continuing to the Gene Pluth residence in Rapid City. As part of the plan, back in Wall Roger Shull was stalling for time, and circumstance intervened quite helpfully to make him even a little later than he had intended to be, so that when the merry five left the Pluth residence, they were actually a tad behind schedule. If there is any such thing as a “perfect tad,” that was it, because Morris, thinking that they should only stop at the Elk Creek Steakhouse out of respect to tradition, was had but good when he walked in. As they had hoped, he did appreciate the party, and a good time was had by all of the numerous birthday well-wishers at the Elk Creek Steakhouse on Saturday night, and yes, into Sunday morning. Morris, Gene, and Roger have already planned a trip to Deadwood next Saturday, and in another stroke of luck for them, Matt Trask has prior commitments and cannot accompany them.

On Sunday, Morris and Shirrise had lunch with Chuck and Sandy Van Vleck. Matt and Nick Trask stopped by Sunday night so that Matt could get his pickup.

It was not noted two weeks ago that Cheryl Simons returned to South Dakota with Shirrise and is recovering at the Morris Linn residence. Cheryl, and the Simons and Linn families, are extremely grateful for all of the cards, calls, wishes and dishes that have been sent their way. Meanwhile, Cheryl has been having great fun at the Morris Linns, where on Friday night she selected Al Trask’s NFR team, and Saturday night she spent with Arlene Talley.

Bunny and Jesse Bail attended the 50th anniversary SDRA banquet Saturday night in Ft. Pierre, where Bunny was recognized as the 1985 SDRA All Around Cowgirl.

Cary and Pam Tines left Saturday for Las Vegas NV to watch performances of the NFR in the company of friends. While they are gone, Grandma Natalie is supervising at the Tines residence. Tad Northup and Jimmy Allen of New Underwood visited the Tines residence Sunday night where they watched the televised NFR performance.

James and Jim Hansen accompanied a man named Fred to the “Upland Trask” residence Wednesday. On Thursday, the “Upland Trasks” had Ray Olson over and celebrated his birthday in pretty good style.

Not much of note happened the rest of the week at the “Upland Trask” residence, except for the things mentioned elsewhere in the ESN, but certain details of Al Trask’s wedding are beginning to take shape. The wedding will be in Columbus OH sometime in June, and it’s going to be a right proper ceremony, complete with fourteen flankers, chosen almost entirely from the two immediate families, with extra kids to watch the punch bowl. Al left the decision to Matt and Nick as to which of them would serve as Best Man. As they were both honored to be asked and deferent to the other, they decided to settle the matter in Old Western fashion. A shootout was deemed too extreme, and so they played a hand of poker. Nick’s pair of eights beat Matt’s pair of sevens and Nick will be Best Man at the wedding. Given what we know about the character of Matt, Lady Luck seems to have made a most prudent selection.

On Saturday, Janet Wilson and Linda Tift were the only kind citizens to brave the weather and board the Wasta Pie Bus for it’s annual trip to Pierre. Mary Kay and Pam Wilson, meanwhile, attended the first gymnastics tournament of the year, in Spearfish. On Sunday, both the Philip Wilsons and the Kenneth Wilsons attended the Rest Area Christmas party at the Wall Drug Store before cutting Christmas trees on the Wilson ranch. However, while Pam Wilson left Sunday to watch a movie in Rapid City with Susan Aker of Wall, Mandy Wilson, now of Rapid City, and her boyfriend Justin Tschetter came out to Elm Springs to cut a Christmas tree.

There are two announcements this week, and they are both heartwarming reminders that we are in the Holiday Season. Pay attention now, because they are similar enough to be confused one with the other.

The first is the Elm Springs School Christmas Program, which will be held on Tuesday the 20th of December at the Elm Springs Hall, beginning at six pm. At the conclusion of the program, a free will soup supper will be served.

The second is the Elm Springs Church Christmas Program, which will be held on Friday, December 23rd at the Elm Springs Church, beginning at 5 pm.

Just about as tricky as a kaleidoscope, ain’t it?

They will both be charming, and if you miss them both entirely out of confusion, you can still have Holiday Fun here in Elm Springs.

The kind citizens hope to see you soon!

The Elm Springs News

November 5th, 2005

Lord have mercy, do the kind citizens have some big news this week, but more on that later.

The weather here in Elm Springs has not changed for the better or the worse, with very pleasant days and cold nights. As the long range forecast calls for a warm and dry winter, the Catholics of Elm Springs, under the direction of Fr. Leo Hausmann, have altogether ceased praying for “rain” and now pray merely for “weather favorable to agriculture,” apparently trusting that God, in His infinite wisdom, knows what type of weather is best suited to the agricultural man.

The Elm Springs Rebels basketball teams finished their season with a Thursday night basketball game and the basketball tournament Saturday in Union Center. The boys won both of their games to become tournament champs, and the girls, while playing very well, lost both of theirs. However, the Elm Springs Rebels teams won the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament, Tyler Trask won the free throw contest for his age division, and Calder Johnston won both the free throw contest and MVP awards. Congratulations to the Elm Springs Rebels and thank you to coaches Sam Johnston and Rusty Lytle.

Clyde Arneson was a morning visitor both Tuesday and Friday at the Lawrence Burke residence. Melissa Burke and her bow were visitors Saturday.

John and Jean Linn visited Charlotte Wilsey and the girls on Friday in Rapid City, to help young Katie celebrate her 7th birthday.

Cheryl Simons was taken to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN, Wednesday for further treatment. Shirrise Linn went as well to be with her mother, so during this time the Morris Linn news could be rather short. In the absence of her mother, young Kassandra, who has been spending a lot of time at the “Big House” and the Andy Linn residence, did her best to report the weeks happenings. She remembered that Clyde Arneson was a visitor one day, and that Matt Trask was a visitor both Friday and Sunday nights.

Young Jace O’Rourke celebrated his fifth birthday Friday, with guests, Pops and Gramm O’Rourke, Bud Pauley and family, and Jesse Bail. This last visitor caused young Jace fits of delight.

Cary and Pam Tines attended the Thursday night basketball game in Union Center. Saturday night visitors at the Cary Tines residence were Danny and Treshelle Hall, Kody DeVries, and Nick Trask.

The “Elk Creek Trasks” hosted the Dakotra Trophies pre-camp meeting Sunday afternoon.

And now for the big news mentioned earlier. The “Upland Trasks” entertained Al Trasks girlfriend, Ms. Bridget Madrid, who currently resides in Virginia, over the weekend. Ms. Madrid was in fact the purpose of Al’s weekend trip to Columbus OH, a few weeks ago. At the time, the whole business was largely shrouded in secrecy, but now that she has come to Elm Springs, as we say, “it should be noted.”

In other “Upland Trask” news, David Kalil of Rapid City was a visitor Monday and Tuesday, and Brian Herr left Thursday for Newton, WS, taking Pat with him to pick up a truck. Friday night, John Paul and Joseph Trask joined Conrad and Ryan Kjerstad, Rawlley Dartt, and Ryan Holsether, all of Wall, and others, for a night of mischief in and around Elm Springs. And Sunday, the “Upland Trasks” joined several other Catholic families and Fr. Leo Hausmann on a Prayer Walk from the four way intersection at Elm Springs to the Elm Springs Cemetery, afterwards hosting the prayer walkers for brunch at their house.

Matt Trask accompanied Todd Trask to the final football game of the Wall Eagles, against the Stickney/Mt. Vernon Knights. And what a heartbreaker, a 14-18 loss, with no points scored by either team in the whole of the second half. It was a very well-fought contest, and the Eagles, with a 9-1 record for the year, have nothing to be ashamed of.

On Saturday, Matt and Maria attended the basketball tournament together, afterwards going to the Jack Simons residence. Jack Simons was not home, and upon returning to Enning, Matt and Maria realized that they had driven right by him on their way to his place. He was at the Bummer Simons residence in Enning, where Bummer, with the help of Malcolm Price of Wasta, was inspecting a new flying machine. In addition to Bummer Malcolm and Jack, their was a large group of supervisors of the type that can be found at any weekend jobsite across the nation.

Jim and Caroline Wilsey returned Monday from a weekend trip to Elk River MN, to visit Tim Wilsey and family. Wes and Joann Wilsey of Hay Springs, NE were weekend visitors at the Wilseys.

It should be noted that Sgt. Brian Wilson and family will be returning stateside to Newport News, VA, after being stationed in Germany for a couple of years.

Melvin and Dorothy Anderson had supper in Rapid City Thursday night with Fritz and Mary Judson. Friday night, they entertained the Schearer trail-drive crew, who overnighted in the bunkhouse.

The kind citizens have quite a bit to talk about this week.
