Hubba's House - The funniest cowboy in the West

The Elm Springs News

The kind citizens of Elm Springs had so much fun last week that it should have been illegal. There were so many comings and goings that the ESN could become a convoluted mess if we are not careful.

But first, a bit of silliness from the Sam Johnston Ranch, where a newly arrived goat escaped last Sunday afternoon. Having no sense of belonging at the Sam Johnston Ranch, the escaped goat wandered far in search of whatever it is that escaped goats search for. The poor kind citizens, upon seeing a goat where no goat had cause to be, began to wonder if their food or drink had been surreptitiously laced with narcotics. It eventually became known that the goat belonged at the Sam Johnston Ranch, and expert goat-ropers Al and Joe Trask captured it and returned it to its rightful owners.

Several of the kind citizens attended the Memorial Weekend Steak Fry at the Wasta Bar Friday night.

Rod and Baxter Anders attended the practice rodeo in Martin over the weekend.

Clyde Arneson attended the New Underwood FFA Banquet Monday night. He was a visitor at the Morris Linn residence Wednesday and Thursday nights, and had coffee at the Sam Johnston residence Sunday morning.

Matt Trask was a visitor at the Lawrence Burke residence Friday night.

After Brad Bookbinders graduation last Sunday, Brad accompanied Larry and Peggy Gravatt to Duluth, MN to attend Peggy’s sisters wedding. RoseMary, Gemma, Maria and Celine Trask were visitors at the Larry Gravatt residence Sunday evening.

Peggy Gravatt reports that granddaughter Abigail Miller of Denver, CO, got to come home after spending the first six weeks of her life in the hospital.

Cary Johnston, Carolyn Anders, and Twila Trask visited the Belle Fourche Cemetery Thursday in observance of Memorial Day. Afterwards they visited Kim and Chris Kling.

Charlotte, Laura, and Katie Wilsey were guests at John and Jean Linns over the weekend. They visited the Andy Linns Sunday morning.

Bear in mind, dear reader, that the following account of the weeks happenings may not be entirely in chronological order, or any order at all. As usual, the confusion was caused by the “Upland Trasks” and the Morris Linns, with the addition of the Jim Jepsen family, of almost Iowa.

On Tuesday, Cary Johnson visited at the Morris Linns. Wednesday, Jim and Shelly Jepsen and family arrived in Elm Springs, where they headquartered, more or less, at the Morris Linns. Thursday morning, Matt Trask was a coffee visitor. Thursday night, Morris and Shirrise hosted a Saladmaster cooking demonstration for Jim and Shelly Jepsen, Cary and Pam Tines, and JW and Dara Wrachford. It probably won’t surprise anyone to know that Matt Trask happened upon this little gathering and had the good sense to bring his empty stomach along. Matt, it should be noted, heartily recommends the Saladmaster line of products. Later guests were Clyde Arneson and several more polite “Upland Trasks.” While Shelly, Kalee, and Bralee kept Shirrise and Kassandra company at the Morris Linn residence, Sutton stayed two days at the “Upland Trasks” and Jim accompanied Morris on the annual Saddle Tramp ride. Saturday, Shirrise and Shelly and the girls went touristing in Wall before visiting the “Upland Trask” residence. That night, an impromptu gathering was held at the Morris Linn residence. Those in attendance, besides the Jepsen women, and Sutton, who was returned that night, were Matt, Nick, Al, Steph and Julie Trask, Cary and Coby Tines, and Chris “Slim” Fischer of Pierce, NE. Sunday, Morris and Jim were returned to Elm Springs by Lane Butler of Enning. Matt Trask was once again a visitor Monday night.

Tucker and Jace O’Rourke and horses went to Interior to help “Pops” and Tom with branding and moving cattle. While Jace has returned to Elm Springs, Tucker and his horse are still at large.

Fred and Eula Ferguson were visitors at the Cary Tines residence Sunday afternoon. Morris Linn, Jim Jepsen and Lane Butler, the Saddle Tramp Champs, stopped at the Cary Tines residence on their way home Sunday evening.

Pat and Matt Trask went to Sturgis on business Tuesday. Nick went to Des Moines, IA, to pick up a baler, returning Saturday. Visitors at the “Upland Trasks” were, in no particular order, Shirrise and Kassandra Linn, Shelly, Sutton, Kalee and Bralee Jepsen, Patrick Wilson, Clay Tines, Sean Troxel, Shane Green from everyones favorite town of Wasta, Baxter and Dunbar Anders, and Chris “Slim” Fischer.

Despite the fact that there are several birds in the area, including a very conspicuous robin, there have been no visitors at “Hubba’s House,” possibly because there is no food in “Hubba’s House.” The corresponding lack of food at the Matt Trask residence did not stop Roger Shull of Wall from visiting on Thursday, or Andy Linn from visiting Sunday morning, or Richard Johnston from visiting Sunday afternoon. Gemma, Maria and Celine accompanied Matt to his house Sunday after church, and helped him tidy the place up.

Bud and Bunny Pauley and girls were dinner guests at the Jim and Carolyn Wilsey residence, to bring over a phone desk which Bud had made.

The Kenny Wilsons went to Oral to visit Russell Curtis Sunday afternoon.

Pam Wilson left Sunday afternoon to catch the bus to the Girls State Camp in Vermillion.

David and Brenda Flint and family, and Ross Wilburn, were dinner guests at the Wes Wilburn residence Sunday afternoon.

Melvin and Dorothy Anderson made two trips to Pierre over the week, to see Mels mother Rose, who is in the hospital. Friday, they attended the dedication of a bronze sculpture of TC Holloway, in Deadwood. They then visited graves of family in Rapid City and at the Black Hills National Cemetery. At the Black Hills National Cemetery, they were met by Leslie and Taylor Anderson and Eileen Buus, who accompanied them to lunch in Sturgis. John Nachtigall was a visitor at the Melvin and Dorothy Anderson residence Friday morning. Sunday Melvin and Dorothy attended a graduation reception for Aaron Reule in Rapid City.

The kind citizens of Elm Springs sure hope you don’t lose your goat.

As the temperature has heated up here in Elm Springs, so have the social lives of the kind citizens.

Speaking of heat, the Elm Springs Fire Department took delivery this week of a new fire truck, a Ford F450 equipped with the usual fire fighting paraphernalia. The new fire truck is parked in the almost completed Fire Hall in downtown Elm Springs. It is hoped that this new piece of fire fighting equipment will usher in an era of peace and prosperity for the kind citizens of Elm Springs.

Several of the kind citizens attended the Wall High School sports awards banquet Monday night at the Community Center in Wall, where among others, young Pam Wilson and John Paul and Joe Trask were recognized.

Several of the kind citizens attended the Wall and New Underwood High School graduations and attending parties on Saturday. Several kids with ties to the community graduated, including Ms Courtney Trask, granddaughter of Marvin and Carolyn Anders, and the young Wulf twins, Wade and Ward, of Owanka.

Maria and Celine Trask and Drew Antone celebrated their First Holy Communion Sunday at St Margarets Catholic Church in Lakeside. Afterwards there was a reception at the Lakeside schoolbuilding.

The Elm Springs schoolchildren had a big week, with Rally Day on Monday in Sturgis, and a field trip to Ellsworth AFB and Reptile Gardens on Friday.

All of the Anders’ attended the reception for Ms Courtney Trask Saturday at the Casey Trask residence near Creighton.

Lawrence and Doris Burke attended the reception for the young Wulf twins at the John and Darlene Wulf residence in Owanka Saturday. Saturday afternoon, Skyler Burke and Robert and Ryan Tenne of Rapid City visited.

Lynn and Sandy Fields went to Rapid City Thursday, he on business, she to visit her sister Pamm Agner of Baltimore MD.

Pixie Connely of Wiggins CO, traveled to Elm Springs to deliver a red heeler dog to Kody Devries, staying overnight Monday night. Contrary to the instincts of the breed, “Spur” is a very amiable creature, allowing the bumbling Matt Trask who visited Monday to step on his foot twice without so much as a yelp of protest, and then as a gesture of goodwill, falling asleep on Matt’s foot.

Larry and Peggy Gravatt traveled to Wisconsin over the weekend to attend Brad Bookbinder’s college graduation. Young Carter Gravatt came out to Elm Springs to help Jack keep an eye on things.

Karen Brunch and children of Rapid City were overnight guests at the Andy Linn residence Saturday night. Visitors on Sunday included Pat and Julie Trask on foot, Matt Trask by vehicle, and Uncle Jim Linn, possibly by tractor. Sunday afternoon, the Andy Linns attended young Emily and Jacob’s piano recital in Rapid City.

The Morris Linns had lunch with Lynn, Ashlyn, Jared, Jodi, and Maverick Simons, Grandma Arlene Talley, and Grandma Jean Linn Monday after Rally Day. Tuesday Morris visited Bummer Simons in Enning. Wednesday, Shirrise and Kassandra went to Wall. Thursday, Camri Elshere and Marilyn, Kail, and Taik Larsen were visitors at the Morris Linns in the afternoon, while Clyde Arneson and Jack Simons were supper guests. Friday, Shirrise and Kassandra visited Grandma Arlene Talley after the field trip.

Sunday, Jack and Sanden Simons accompanied Morris and Kassandra Linn on a fishing expedition.

John Tines and Amanda Humphrey attended her cousins high school graduation in Canton Sunday before going on to the South Dakota/Iowa border to visit Jim and Shelly Jepsen. Kody Devries was a guest at the Cary Tines residence both Saturday and Sunday nights.

Maxine Smith attended the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce annual Sports Recognition Banquet in Rapid City Monday night, where her grandson Greg Geary was honored. Maxine has good reason to be proud of this young man, a senior slugger for the SDSU Jackrabbits baseball team, who recently hit his 43rd home run for the team, becoming the new record holder in that category.

Chad Finneman was an afternoon visitor at the “Upland Trasks” Monday afternoon. Monday night, several of the “Upland Trasks” visited Larry and Trish Hansen of Rapid City. Morris Linn visited Friday afternoon. Pat and Steph attended the Lockout meeting in New Underwood Friday night. Several more of the “Upland Trasks” attended the Godfrey Brake Open House in Rapid City Saturday afternoon, while young John Paul Trask was a functionary at the Wall High School graduation. It was remarked by several that he looked especially sharp in his hillbilly penguin suit. Pam Wilson was a visitor at the “Upland Trasks” Sunday night.

There is now a humongous birdhouse mounted on a post in the front yard of the Matt Trask residence, with a blue sign at the bottom bearing the inscription “Hubba’s House” in white spray paint. Several things should be noted, first, that Matt steadfastly insists that his nickname is “Hubba” despite the fact that virtually no one actually calls him that, second, that “Hubba’s House” is actually the one on top of the post, and third, that there have been no visitors sighted at “Hubba’s House,” a massive green roofed structure built by no less of a man than Mr. Jim Reed, the Chief Brand Inspector.

Visitors at the Matt Trask residence were Tyler Wilson on Thursday night, Steph Trask on Friday night, Al and Joe Trask and Patrick Wilson Saturday night, Marvin and Carolyn Anders Sunday afternoon, and Steph and Julie Trask and Pam Wilson Sunday night. Matt Trask visited the Morris Linns Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights, and, stooping to ever lower lows, had himself dropped off in Wall Saturday, where he attended the graduation and then had a ball walking around town feigning interest in the future plans of high school graduates so that he could eat their food. His younger (and taller) brother John Paul, who was staying overnight at the Kjerstad residence, was finally forced to take Matt back to Elm Springs so that he would stop making a nuisance of himself.

Josh and Amy Wolberg left Elm Springs Saturday, after a fun filled week visiting the Philip Wilsons.

Elm Springs will hold its annual Memorial Day Program on Monday the 30th of May, at two o’clock in the afternoon. You don’t want to miss this charming display of the talents of the kind citizens and their children.

The kind citizens wish you a very nice week.

The Elm Springs News

The Almighty saw fit to shower the kind citizens with even more blessings this past week, rain and even some snow. Although the temperatures were at times a little chilly, the kind citizens could not stop smiling. And the wet, cold days provided numerous opportunities to complete those little projects lurking in basements and garages all over the world.

Baxter and Dunbar Anders, accompanied by their mother, attended the homecoming ceremony for the 193rd Battalion, held in the Cobbler gymnasium in Rapid City Friday.

Clyde Arneson and Andy Linn went to Sturgis Wednesday on business. Sunday Kody DeVries was an afternoon visitor at the Clyde Arneson residence.

Carlee and Carson Johnston had a spectacular birthday party Friday at the Sam Johnston residence, with virtually the entire lower room of the Elm Springs School in attendance. At the party, young Ben Linn, performing antics on his bicycle, suffered a nasty fall which required a trip to the emergency room to treat lacerations of his lower lip and nose. We are reminded once again that children through the ages have to be told that “it’s all fun and games until someone gets an eye poked out,” or words to that effect.

The Morris Linns went to Rapid City Monday, where they visited Grandma Arlene Talley , Charlie and Carol Linn, and Kei and Sheryll Oberlander. Monday night Matt Trask was a visitor. Wednesday, John and Jean Linn were coffee guests at the Morris Linns. Thursday, Morris and Kassandra visited Ray Olson and the “Brustol AFB.” Friday Shirrise and Kassandra had supper with Kellie and Emily Linn at Red Lobster in Rapid City. They then attended Katie Wilsey’s tap dance recital. Saturday, Shirrise attended a stamping party at Jodi Shaw’s near Red Owl, while Kassandra stayed with Nana and Papa Simons. And Sunday Cheryl Simons was a visitor at the Morris Linns before accompanying them to Wall to view Sanden and Elaine Simons new house. Matt Trask was once again a visitor Sunday night.

Pam Tines and Dara Wrachford attended a brunch fundraiser for Rhonda Thompson in New Underwood Sunday morning.

Shelia and Tomilyn Trask attended the Philip High School graduation Sunday afternoon.

The ranks of the “Upland Trasks” increased by two with the return of Stephanie and Julie from Chadron, NE. Visitors at the “Upland Trasks” included Morris Linn, several Tines, Sean Troxel, Steve and Nick Hobart, Kade McVeigh, Tim (last name unknown), and Ray Olson. During the week, Pat, Julie and John Paul went to Rapid City, where among the many things they did, Julie had several inches of her hair cut off and donated it to the Locks of Love organization. Friday night, Matt, Nick and Al Trask attended a college graduation party for young Justin Wulf at the John and Darlene Wulf residence. Saturday night, several of the “Upland Trasks” went to Rapid City to have supper with Becky, who was in town with a group of fifth graders from the school where she works. Pat visited at the Big Green Trask House in Wall Sunday afternoon.

Matt Trask was forced to bid farewell to his “subdued” lifestyle, with the Monday night visit of Tom Bruch and Kelly Kolb, both of Sturgis, and EJ Karp of Owanka, the Tuesday morning visit of Morris, Kassandra, and Andy Linn, Nick Trask, and Lawrence Burke, the Thursday night visit of Steph, Julie and Nick Trask, the Sunday visit of Colby and Clay Tines and Sean Troxel, and seven more phone calls during the course of the week. Besides visiting at the Morris Linns twice, Matt also managed to visit the “Brustol AFB” Saturday night and the Tom and Jackie Shull residence Sunday afternoon.

Jim and Carolyn Wilsey went to Rapid City Thursday to see Jims brother Chuck. Bruce Wilsey of Sioux Falls was a weekend guest at the Jim Wilseys to help with the branding.

Young Kelli Wilson celebrated her 14th birthday a few days early Sunday, with Philip, Mary Kay, and Pam Wilson, Josh, Amy, and Mary Wilson, who arrived Friday and are here for the week, and Shelia and Tomilyn Trask.

Melvin Anderson left early Sunday morning for Pierre, to be with his mother Rose, who suffered a fall and required hospitalization.

The kind citizens of Elm Springs are now listening to the grass grow!

The Elm Springs News

Amid more falling rain, which the kind citizens are extremely grateful for, and with a more proper coat of green on the ground, things are getting busy here in Elm Springs.

The biggest news of the week was the safe return of Elm Springs own serviceman, the commander of the “Brustol AFB,” Msgt. JW Wrachford. Msgt. Wrachford returned to South Dakota Saturday afternoon, all in one piece, although perhaps a little skinnier. A welcome home party was held at the Saloon #2 in New Underwood. Those in attendance included Cary and Pam Tines and family, Amanda Humphrey, Gene Pippert, Kody DeVries, Matt Trask, Morris and Shirrise Linn, Danny and Treshelle Hall, Ronnie and Joan Racicky, Kay Williamson, and Lt. Christina Furr.

The Elm Springs kindergarten class held its graduation exercises Wednesday. Proud graduates were Carter Elshere, Savanna Johnston, and cousins Jacob and Kassandra Linn.

And the Elm Springs schoolchildren had a field day Monday, first visiting the Sturgis Public library and then splitting up into the Upper Room Party, which attended the Civic Oration contest to lend moral support to Calder Johnston and Kelli Wilson, and the Lower Room Party, which visited at the nursing home.

Several of the kind citizens attended the weekend showings of the Wall High School play entitled “Way Out West In A Dress.” It should be noted that young Pam Wilson participated in this production.

Marvin and Carolyn Anders attended part of the New Underwood High School rodeo Sunday.

Clyde Arneson was a visitor at the Morris Linns on Tuesday night and a “cackleberry” picker upper at the Andy Linns on Wednesday night.

Ryan and Chrissy Elshere left their children with Marci Arneson in Rapid City before joining the rest of the “Rodeo Kids” at the Seven Downs Arena near Spearfish Sunday. Mr. Elshere won the saddle bronc riding.

Lawrence Burke visited Steve Warren and Jack Kleinsasser in Rapid City Thursday. Sunday, Lawrence and Doris celebrated Mothers Day in Rapid City with daughter Melissa over lunch.

Tyler Caspers daughter Taryn was a visitor at Elm Springs over the weekend. The Caspers’ celebrated Mothers Day with supper at Red Lobster in Rapid City.

Kelli Linn visited Ann Shaw near White Owl Wednesday morning. Saturday she attended a nutrition seminar in Rapid City with Charlotte Wilsey.

Jean Linn spent Mothers Day with Charlotte and her kids.

Shirrise and Kassandra Linn visited Jeff and Shelane Graham on their way home from the field day Monday. Matt Trask was a visitor at the Morris Linns Monday night. Wednesday Cheryl Simons, Great Grandmas Arlene Talley and Margaret Simons, John and Jean Linn, Dayton Shannon, and Sandy Van Vleck all had supper at the Morris Linns to celebrate young Kassandra’s kindergarten graduation. Thursday Shirrise and Kassandra visited Sanden and Elaine Simons’ new house in Wall before gymnastics. Friday Shirrise and Kassandra spent the night with Grandma Arlene Talley in Rapid City. While Kassandra stayed with Grandma Arlene Saturday, Shirrise and Marsha Pluth attended yard sales before they all four had lunch together. Sunday, Bummer and Scott Simons were morning guests at the Morris Linns, while Brian and Statler Walker of Piedmont were afternoon guests.

Cary and Pam Tines had dinner at the Ronnie and Joan Racicky residence in New Underwood Sunday. John Tines, Amanda Humphrey, Gene Pippert, and Kody DeVries were visitors at the Cary Tines residence Sunday afternoon.

The “Upland Trasks” had hardly shooed Matt out the door before they made room for Brian Herr of Newton, WS, and Chad Finneman. Brian Herr stayed for the week and Chad may be staying off and on for a while.

On Saturday, young Stephanie Trask became the first “Upland Trask” child to receive the fruit of a college education when she graduated from Chadron State College. This occasion was witnessed by all of the “Upland Trasks” including Becky and Brian Herr and excepting, strangely enough since there is always food at events of that nature, Matt.

Many have suggested that now that Matt is on his own, he will embark upon the dissolute and irresponsible life of a young dandy. While Matt is as susceptible to temptation as anyone, he does not want to disturb his newfound peace and quiet.

Accordingly, for an “Upland Trask” it was a very subdued week at the Matt Trask residence. Visitors included Brian Herr, Al, Celine, Maria and Joe Trask, Dunbar Anders, and Kody DeVries. The number of telephone calls a residence receives is not normal fodder for the ESN, but it is interesting that Matt only took three in the whole week.

Rest assured, dear reader, that if Matt is led astray and turns down the wide road to hell, the whole abysmal journey will be chronicled in the ESN.

Jim and Carloyn Wilseys granddaughter Ashley was a visitor over the weekend. The three went to supper in Rapid City for Mothers Day.

The Kenny Wilsons had Mothers Day dinner at Minerva’s Restaurant in Rapid City with Mandy and the Tschetter family, while the Philip Wilsons had Mothers Day dinner at the A&M Cafe in Interior.

Melvin Anderson sent his second book to the publisher over the week. He and Dorothy are looking forward to being friends again. As a sign of that friendship, Mel took Dorothy out to eat, then to Deadwood, then to a movie, and out to eat again, on Mothers Day.

The Elm Springs Cemetery will have its Clean Up Day Monday, May 23rd at 5pm, with a potluck supper following.

A close inspection of this weeks ESN will reveal that young Matt did not go wandering near as much over the week, possibly because of the novelty of living in his own house, even one without a scrap of food.

The kind citizens of Elm Springs hope it stays that way…

The Elm Springs News

May 2nd, 2005

Jumping Jehosephat, the kind citizens had a big time this week! Amid the wind and somewhat cooler weather, no less than five “moves” were conducted involving kind citizens in one way or another. Care must be taken to preserve order in the ESN this week, so that one account does not get mixed up with another.

Bearing that in mind, here we go.

The WTL Club met at the Andy and Kelli Linn residence Monday, to prepare food baskets for the college kids of the community, who are busy with end of the year testing, and for Matt Trask, who is usually busy eating. Ladies in attendance, besides Kelli, included Jean and Shirrise Linn, Dorothy Anderson, Caroline Wilsey, Janet Wilson, Margee Willey, Linda Tift, Sandy Fields, and Lorraine Ven Huizen.

Lawrence and Doris Burke assisted in what could be called the “first move,” helping Melissa Burke move across Rapid City Wednesday. Clyde Arneson was a coffee guest at the Lawrence Burke residence Saturday morning, and Matt Trask was a coffee guest Sunday afternoon.

Lawrence and Doris Burke visited Eula Ferguson at the Good Samaritan home in New Underwood Saturday, which was her 91st birthday.

Lynn and Sandy Fields got away Thursday to Sturgis, mostly on business, but they did stop to visit Herb and Kathleen Morrell in Sturgis, with whom young Lynn stayed when he was in high school. Mrs. Morrell is recovering quite nicely from a surgery last month.

Wednesday, Dennis Chowen of Sturgis visited at the Andy Linn residence, where he helped Kelli rebuild her brick planter. Friday, Kelli and the kids went to Rapid City for the Josh McDowell Bold Truth Tour presentation. And Sunday, Pat Trask visited at the Andy Linn residence afoot in the morning, and Steph, Julie and Celine came for supper. Celine was left at the Andy Linn residence to spend the night.

Shirrise Linn visited at the “Upland Trask” residence Monday after the WTL Club meeting, to pick up Kassandra, who had ridden home in the Big White Van with the “Upland Trask” children. Matt Trask was a visitor at the Morris Linns Monday night. Tuesday, Morris went to Philip. Shirrise and Kassandra met him for supper in Wall, accompanied by Roger Shull and Larry Schell. Friday, Grandma Margaret was a visitor at the Morris Linns in the morning, before accompanying Shirrise and Kassandra to Rapid City for Kassandra’s seven year pictures and lunch with Grandma Arlene.

Saturday, Morris went to Wall to help with the “second move,” that of Sanden and Elaine Simons, who moved across the street. Morris and Roger Shull went on to Philip to attend an auction, while Sanden and Bummer Simons, and Pat, Nick and Joe Trask converged on everyones favorite town of Wasta to help with the “third move,” that of an antique piano given by Good Neighbor Margee Willey to the Morris Linns. Saturday night visitors at the Morris Linns, in stages, were Sanden and Bummer Simons, Pat, Matt, Nick, Al and Joe Trask, Patrick Wilson, and Clyde and Connie Arneson.

Sunday, Grandma Jean was a visitor at the Morris Linns.

John Tines, Amanda Humphrey, and Kody DeVries were supper guests at the Cary Tines residence Wednesday night. Sunday, Pams brothers Park and Paul Miller, both of Douglas, WY arrived at the Cary Tines residence for an extended stay.

The biggest news at the “Upland Trasks” was the “fourth move,” that of Matt Trask to the former Hal Oberlander residence in downtown Elm Springs on Sunday. The kind citizens were especially gracious to their resident mooch, loaning and donating things for his use. He was assisted in his move by Morris and Kassandra Linn and Coby Tines, along with an understandably eager horde of “Upland Trasks,” who hustled his effects out the door and into waiting vehicles, and seemed to grow more gleeful as his presence diminished.

Matt drove through the whole of Elm Springs, picking up items offered for his use and throwing them on a flatbed trailer, where a gaggle of kids tried their best to keep the pile from falling off onto the road.

Several things should be noted, first that Matts arrival in Elm Springs proper boosted the population “by twelve to fourteen percent,” according to Lawrence Burke, which figure made Matt a little unsure of his existence.

And secondly, the kind citizens of Elm Springs have little cause to rejoice, for Matts new abode has no kitchen, and at the moment, no food either. If anything, the prospects of a Matt-free existence have diminished.

And finally, should you so desire for whatever reason, all are welcome to drink water and stare at the walls with Matt at his new residence. Perhaps he could even get out one of his many guitars and massacre a popular tune for your enjoyment. For directions, ask a kind citizen.

Jim and Caroline Wilsey went to Rapid City and Sturgis Wednesday on business.

Melvin and Dorothy Anderson went to Pierre Wednesday to assist with the “fifth move,” that of Melvins mother Rose Anderson, to a new apartment in Pierre. Saturday, Melvin and Dorothy attended a party at the Leon Martin residence south of Hermosa.

The kind citizens of Elm Springs are very tired after all that heavy lifting.
